The software they're using to run the entire thing the way they are is why they fly through it. If you do what the paid software does manually it takes a *lot* of work. Check out vfio on the arch wiki
Unraid is a software RAID program for linux, but unraid uses something else as the hypervisor to control the VM's. All via Linux. Windows 7 pro had a virtualization software built in as well too, dubbed the "XP Mode". But it was very rudimentary, and slow. Now a days, It's almost seamless unless you go cloud based, which makes it feel like XP Mode again.
That was some brutal guerrilla marketing moment. Or is it really impossible to pass through two gfx cards on AMD, considering the resources LTT has at it's disposal?
@@c99kfm Both, or rather, all relevant types of resources. Manpower, knowledge (Anthony esp.), clout with companies, time... GPU passthrough makes massive sense for core-heavy platforms. To chicken out at the first sign of trouble to switch to the competitor is exactly what I've written: guerrilla marketing. If it is really impossible to pull it off on AMD, well, research that and explain it in the video. But to announce an AMD build and switch to Intel at the very first hint of a problem is shady at best, especially with cutting edge stuff and on a topic where a lot of viewers might take legitimate interest in. For example, Intel has nothing on Threadrippers, probably the best platform for this type of work by far. So a working AMD example might be quite educational. I like LTT and Linus, but this was a low point. First time I watched it I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Oh, and would you believe it that it just now saw the smiley at the end of your comment? Damn it. :))

So I was, and still am, with you on them doing a half-assed job on the AMD pass-through. Which is why I tossed out a facetious insult towards the LTT team, after upvoting your comment. I used Aster to multiseat on my Windows machine. As far as I can tell it offers you the full capabilities of the machine on each "seat", which meant that running two instances of a moderately demanding videogame on a single gpu/cpu was a blast.
I run an unraid gaming machine. Ryzen 3900x, 32GB's ram, 24tb storage and growing. Really cool setup, i don't think i could go back to a bare metal desktop again. Its so good to just fire up extra VM's for testing software without changing anything on my main gaming vm all while serving media to the house 24/7 through plex and emby.
I guess it does look a bit like an AC4 mission briefing. It just needs the UI sounds. XD Speaking of Armored Core, where is our PC version, FROM? *taps foot impatiently*

The math at 11:43 is incorrect. The couple's PC actually adds up to $3,413, making the difference much smaller. Without the need to put so much hardware in one case, and eliminating the difficulties of AMD CPU with NVIDIA graphics in unraid, an AMD machine for separate PC'S could have brought the two scenarios to very close in cost.
They basically tried that already when they tried to build one rig that all their editors could use simultaneously. It didn't work but there is a precedent for them trying it.
well yea cause the popular thing to do nowadays is praise amd, even though intel still provides better gaming performance in relatively modern games, modern games still dont always utilize every core/thread, so better single core performance is beneficial in games like csgo, thats why i still use intel, the price you can get an i5-9600k for is actually really worthit since it provides better single core performance allowing for more fps for modern titles, however once games start utilizing more threads then intel is generally going to have to make some changes, generally though amd is generally doing better these days, more cores/threads for your buck, so depends on really the applications you'd be using your cpu for, however i know for a fact that my cpu is generally better for what im using it for, getting an amd cpu at this price range would be a downgrade for me

I used Aster to multiseat on my Windows machine. As far as I can tell it offers you the full capabilities of the machine on each "seat", which meant that running two instances of a moderately demanding videogame on a single gpu/cpu was a blast.

I run an unraid gaming machine. Ryzen 3900x, 32GB's ram, 24tb storage and growing. Really cool setup, i don't think i could go back to a bare metal desktop again. Its so good to just fire up extra VM's for testing software without changing anything on my main gaming vm all while serving media to the house 24/7 through plex and emby.
Remember back in the day when a PC build was an hour long, I miss dem days.

The math at 11:43 is incorrect. The couple's PC actually adds up to $3,413, making the difference much smaller. Without the need to put so much hardware in one case, and eliminating the difficulties of AMD CPU with NVIDIA graphics in unraid, an AMD machine for separate PC'S could have brought the two scenarios to very close in cost.
I bet that the series finale of this anime will be Linus running all of LMG off of a single computer.
They basically tried that already when they tried to build one rig that all their editors could use simultaneously. It didn't work but there is a precedent for them trying it.
I designed a pc on pc part picker that might do it, it has 4 titan gtx (I built it before rtx) and 128 gigs of ram and 2 cups, it was $50,000

well yea cause the popular thing to do nowadays is praise amd, even though intel still provides better gaming performance in relatively modern games, modern games still dont always utilize every core/thread, so better single core performance is beneficial in games like csgo, thats why i still use intel, the price you can get an i5-9600k for is actually really worthit since it provides better single core performance allowing for more fps for modern titles, however once games start utilizing more threads then intel is generally going to have to make some changes, generally though amd is generally doing better these days, more cores/threads for your buck, so depends on really the applications you'd be using your cpu for, however i know for a fact that my cpu is generally better for what im using it for, getting an amd cpu at this price range would be a downgrade for me
