Yes, and that's why you are 100% LOST. Your fatal flaw is trusting in BOTH your faith and works to save you, when in fact you ought to trust in the merits of Christ ALONE, and only thennnnnn do as many works as you like, "storing up for yourselves treasures in heaven" as Jesus said would be the result (not to GET INTO heaven, as the Pope teaches). Hence, because you are pinning your hopes for heaven on your charitable deeds, (CCC 1821), all Catholics are LOST, from the Pope down to the pauper in the pew.

@@eucharistangel4662 I wouldn’t pass judgment like that. I’m a Protestant btw, but Paul does say that faith works itself out in love (Galatians 5:6) and that faith leads unto good works (Ephesians 2:8-10). They are not holding to works apart from faith, but works from faith. That’s how Luther eventually came to sola fide. You are looking at their works in a stereotypical “I have to do works and earn my way to heaven” but that is not the Catholic view, at least not anymore. If you abide in your faith, that faith must produce change in your life in how you walk and love God (by loving Jesus the Son as you do the Father) and love others.
Also, we cannot say that all Catholics are automatically lost. We do not know the state of their faith before Jesus in practice. Remember that not all Catholics actually are taking the approach that you are stating. Most are, but you cannot assume that everyone is doing that, some Catholics are truly saved. God will judge us on a person-by-person basis so I think it’s worth keeping that in mind, also for ourselves if we are so comfortable damning everyone in a denomination that we don’t agree with.

@@eucharistangel4662 put it this way. What way can you tell if someone’s faith in Jesus is genuine? By how that faith impacts your life. Does that faith spur you to repentance and to love? Then that is salvation by grace through faith. If it’s a simple “I have faith in Jesus now I can do whatever I want, and be saved” without any change in heart, you are not saved. Period.

Which we don’t know what people’s lives are like and in what state their works are coming from, from human merit or by grace through their faith. As far as I know, what Protestants (the ones I know) believe is yes, you must do good works because how can you say you are a child of God if your fruit is evil? How can you grow if you don't work on spiritual disciplines? But what saves a person is Jesus' life, death and resurrection. Work out your salvation yes, but can you really say you can work for your salvation? Sometimes, I think we get lost in semantics.
Personally, I hope Christians, especially Catholics can be more loving and patient towards others and stop being so condescending. I was raised protestant and it took me a while to get into Catholicism because whenever I asked questions, a lot of Catholics just looked down on me, as if my faith in Jesus was worthless and invalid because I wasn't Catholic. But whatever. I believe and trust in the grace and mercy of the Lord. I'm a sinner but His Divine Mercy is greater than my sins. I thank God that He let me be raised in a Protestant family so I can be more empathic towards others who have the same background and are now interested in Catholicism. I still love my Protestant church family and I know many Protestants who lead Christ-centered lives.
I live in a country where majority of the population is Catholic. But many including my parents are leaving the Catholic Church because there's not enough effort put into teaching. Most Catholics here don't know much about the faith. Catholicism is more of a culture than actual religion. I remember when I was younger, whenever we had school programs and the teacher would ask someone to lead the opening prayer, it would almost always be a protestant student who would pray for the class because the Catholic students didn't know how to pray.
Anyway, I thank God for these Catholic YT channels. I can only attend online mass so they are great blessings. I'm also really thankful for Fr. Mike's Bible and Cathecism in a Year podcast. I just started this January 1st and it's helping me a lot.

Martin Luther, one of the founders of Protestantism was the one to introduce the doctrine of “sola fide” or “faith alone” which was his and other’s interpretation of the Bible during the time of the reformation. He even translated his own Bible from Greek to German and when he translated Romans 3:28 he added “alone” “man is justified by faith alone” when there was no word for alone found in the Greek version.

get out of here faith alone is all through out romans and Ephesians both, its in the 1611 kjv and the Genieva bible the issue is that Catholics follow the wrong apostle and the wrong message , they deny there's 2 messages and they mix match the scriptures however they like instead of rightly dividing the scriptures (2timothy2:15 kjv)they wrongly mash together the scriptures! read all of romans at least the first 5 chapters
      Romans 3:21-28 kjv
But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
27Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
      Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.
grace of God, faith of man APART from ourselves, not of works! if its not of works, not of ourselves the only thing left is faith , so yes the words faith alone is not there but what does Paul mean by faith not OF OURSELVES, NOT OF WORKS!???

There was a good story of a woman who died during covid. She went to heaven and was given her award. Her faith made her save a man from killing himself after the Holy Spirit told her to tell him the gospel. That man became a pastor and led many to heaven, which jesus gave her her award based on that one work. She was sent back to take care of her child.

lol fr. The Old Testament salvation was based off works as a means to get to paradise(not heaven). So works weren’t even enough to get a man into glory. It wasn’t until Christs sacrifice that we obtained salvation and faith in him. He went through all that just so things could remain the same and we have to work our way into heaven as if his death not being sufficient? They want to talk about heresy, but how blasphemous to think that the sacrifice of Christ were not enough to save us alone. The truth of the Bible is that we can’t keep the law perfectly. It’s impossible. Works cannot save a man and the law was put into place to show us that and it worked as a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ and allow us to see how helpless we really are and in need of a Saviour. Without the law we wouldn’t know that our works were insufficient and we would be boastful that we being evil can save ourselves. After salvation our purpose is to do good works, but works aren’t necessary to stay saved. The only thing a saved person can lose is rewards at the judgment seat of Christ, and effectiveness when witnessing due to bad testimony with a sinful life. But by Gods grace and faith alone we will make it through.

For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. 3 But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins." Notice Paul does not say 'If it worked they would have stopped sinning. He says "they would not have felt GUILTY" all through Hebrews 10 he talks about how its our conscience of sin that is wicked, Because SIN has already been dealt with, to bring it back up is to say Jesus failed. God even said Himself "I will remember their sin no more" (In prophecy) If God is not consumed by our sin why should I be? The holy Spirit is enough to keep me on track where i fail. I know a false prophet when i finish listening and I feel like I need to DO something to clean my life up, But a good shepherd will always reveal and show you JESUS, not your own wickedness.

The act of sinning is a rejection of God's love. If you freely choose to sin that means you are rejecting salvation, you are rejecting His love and mercy. Well unless you're in heaven then you'd stop sinning completely but while walking on the earth, you can fall, you can lose your way, you can always choose to throw the gift of salvation you once had yes christians still have freewill to walk the right path or to walk away. While others can't take the gift of grace away from you, you can reject it by freely choosing to live in sin.

@@jmdionishow I believe you are incorrect. Sin is not rejection of Gods love, it is an archery term used when the archer “misses the mark” the mark being the mosaic Law. How can we miss a mark of a Law that has been fulfilled and not abolished? Sin is only an issue to you not to God, there is no accuser left in heaven accusing you to God. Paul said “you have made enemies of God IN YOUR MIND” not your sin has made you enemies. Immoral behaviour is not spiritual sin. Adam and Eve sinned against God SPIRITUALLY but Cain was IMMORAL toward his brother in the flesh. Cain did not sin even though he murdered, because there was no law telling him not to murder, or the devil would have said that to eve “kill Adam”, but he did not instead he made them Go against the commandment of “don’t eat”
Sin is a human condition that God took care of 2024 years ago on the cross. When you dwell on your sin you trample His sacrifice by bringing up something that is dead. Again yes you can behave immorally but immoral behaviour is not who you are and it does not disqualify salvation.

It's also to the question "What specifically Constitute the Faith " ,?
Now , that which specifically constitute the Faith is its works & specific to the works are the TWO COMMANDMENTS OF LOVE namely Love thy God & Love thy Brethren (for in these two Commandments hang the law & the prophets)
This exactly is what the Bronze Image of St Peter in Peters Basilica denote " The two Commandments of Love that hang in the two keys of heaven , the Universal Doctrine or rather the Faith of the Church,
Unto Peter commanded he " Feed my Sheep (followers) / Lambs (Martyrs)" but reveals what specifically the Food is -- the Faith ,
"Pick up. your crosses daily & follow me" , amounts to following the Two Commandments of Love,
Revelations : The Elect of God who keep his Commanments & have his testimony, The testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy ,

I’m sorry to say this, but Dr. Pitre did not get this correct. If it were as easy as he makes it out to be, there would be no controversy. The first mistake is the same one Scott Hahn made at one time until he was corrected, that is, that the “works of the law” refers only to circumcision or ceremonial things. Although Paul is chiefly against circumcision in his Galatian epistle, that is because the Judaizers were pushing circumcision. But in Paul’s Romans theology, he is also against ANY work of the law, including civil, ceremonial, or moral, that one uses to be justified before God, especially Romans 7:10-12 (cf. Titus) that speaks directly to the moral commands of the Ten Commandments as not being able to justify a man. The only way works can be used for justification is if the worker is already in the grace of God and not seeking to place God in debt (Rm 4:3-4). Dr. Pitre also got it wrong when he asserted that James chapter 2 was only concerned about “intellectual faith.” The context of James 2 is talking about ANY kind of faith, good, bad or indifferent. If that faith does not add works to the faith, then the justification is lost. This is why even Abraham’s great faith was not enough. He had to add works to the faith in order to complete and not lose his justification.

Well, how'd one discern that humbling oneself is the doorway to Hell: by humbling oneself that very quality does actually produce a callousness towards the least of all- as then one *knows* that even with God Himself enabling you to assist them: you are NEVER GOING TO BE EVEN THE MOST REMOTELY ABLE TO; so you have a duty to cut them off from any needs they may have; including the least of all, solely out of humility.
Thus we know that it is *pride* that induces man to serve his neighbor, humility that denies man the will to do so *forever* and so we know by these events proven in even *one singular man's case* that the word of God is a lie from the very *mouth of God Himself* as what He commanded to be embraced actually led even one man by obeying it to hate his neighbors and to fully set the grounds for the loss of salvation to all!
*That* not what He said it will, is what obedience to Him does; as does the pursuit of humility, so we *know* that humility actually teaches man to hate God and neighbor, and pride likewise teaches man to serve his neighbor *solely because he CAN do that good*!

All and all I agree with this. However, I have read the Lutheran confessions, and this is false. Lutherans DO NOT believe you can do whatever you want and not lose your salvation. Do not lump them with the once saved always saved crowd. It is true that man is justified by faith apart from works of the law, (including the moral law); read Romans 7, and 2 Corinthians 3, paul has the moral law in mind as with the ceremonial. Here's why. Can you really keep the 10 commandments? Sure, one can externally obey them. But to lust after another woman is adultery. To be angry with your fellow brother is murder. To covet is to steal. So even if you outwardly obey the law, you still break it in the heart, rendering you guilty. You cannot stand before God without guilt trying to work your way to heaven. The fact you go to confession, be it once a week, month, year, demonstrates that YOU cannot even keep the law externally. We are called to obedience and good works because we believe. And if one is living in unrepentant sin, oh yes, he can lose his salvation, because good works are the fruit of faith. And without works faith is dead. Luther didn't reject James, he called it an epistle of straw in that its quality wasn't as good as Paul's. See 1 Corinthians 3 about where Paul says that man either has good works of gold, silver, precious stone, or wood, hay, and straw.

Whether Paul has in mind the moral law or not is irrelevant as RCism denies one merits initial justification via any type of work, works only apply to one already justified to deepen their justification. Yes believers can keep the commandments satisfactorily, love fulfills the law - God doesn't command impossibilities. One only must go to confession if they commit mortal sin, believers aren't committing mortal sin constantly nor are their good works vitiated with damnable sin as Lutheranism holds.

The thrust of Romans is a comparison of the Jews and the Gentiles, how both are saved by grace through faith in the Messiah, not based on whether they have the law and keep it (which nobody can do or has done), have the law and didn't keep it, or don't have the law and have committed acts of uttermost wickedness. Then the book of Romans proceeds to tell us how the Jew and Gentile should live together as one people in the Spirit, with faith in the Messiah. Romans is not about faith that someone is going to heaven. It's not the message that if you really believe you're going to heaven thanks to Jesus as your talisman, then you are. It's an obedient faith in the Messiah that not only calls him Lord, but honors him as Lord. James is saying the same thing. Confessing Jesus is Lord is not about mere words that we speak, but about agreeing with God concerning who Jesus is, and agreeing with one's life, wholeheartedly, just as the two greatest commandments say. This cannot be done apart from the Spirit of God in the new birth.

  • @glennshrom5801

Romans doesn't just teach about faith, it teaches strongly on grace. Romans 6.14 "For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace." Romans 11.6 "And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace." See also Romans 4.4-8, where faith is not just on the side that is counter to the Mosaic law, but on the side that has "transgressions forgiven, sins covered, and sins not counted against them". Faith is not just about keeping a different kind of law transcending the Mosaic law, but rather about the grace of God that forgives all sin, making us cleansed and pure in God's eyes!

us gentiles didnt have hope we were strangers from the covenants and commonwealth of Israel until the body of christ mystery was revealed to Paul, and he was converted to a believer in acts 9 the mysteries were still hid in God until he revealed them to Paul after his conversion.
      Ephesians 2:11-12
Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; 12That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
      Ephesians 3:1-6
For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, 2If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: 3How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, 4Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) 5Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; 6That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
      Ephesians 3:9
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
      Romans 16:25
Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
      Gal1:11-12
But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
      Gal 2:2
And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles,
Gal 2:7-9 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; 8(For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) 9And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

Even just relying on the Gospels.... Jesus CLEARLY warned His listeners over and over again with words not only about Hell but in terms like perseverance, patience, endurance, etc....IF we could never lose our salvation simply by claiming to have Faith alone then I would all Protestants....Why did Christ warn us? If I am already saved and nothing I do makes a difference then why do I have to persevere? Persevere in what? Faith? But you said my faith alone saves me right? Obviously Protestants like their forbears misinterpreted St Paul's writings.
I would add...WHY do Protestants ALWAYS quote St Paul but never Jesus?

Luther saying that about the letter of James is straight Heresy . Any Bible alone Christian should recognize Luther’s error if they believe the Bible. Luther thought he knew better than Saint James and the early church fathers. That’s terrible.

I always appreciate listening to Pitre, but he doesn't quite get Lutheranism right here (I'm Lutheran, thus the concern).
Lutherans don't believe that one cannot forfeit one's salvation by mortal sin. We do accept James as Scripture (and exegete it: read our confessions, such as the Apology IV). We also don't believe we can live however we want. Further, a justified person does indeed have love and is regenerated. If one has no love, we're no longer united with Christ. Also, by "sola fide" we're talking about faith as trust, not mere intellectual assent, which James shows doesn't suffice.
Just wanted to bring some clarification on the Lutheran view.
I also want to mention that Augustine understands "works of the law" as any work, not just ceremonial ones, so Pitre doesn't go with Augustine on that point.

@@HAL9000-su1mz Lutherans' not Luther. Our theology is found in our confessional documents, the Book of Concord, not in Luther's private theology. Article IV in thr Formula of Concord discusses good works. Art. III discusses justification and argued that saving faith must include charity.
I also think it's an overstatement to say that Luther's theology was always changing. He was pretty consistent (though never a systematic writer) from the 1520's onward.

It is very clear that Luther first believed that faith alone saved and then rebelled and later read the bible including the Epistles of James. Hence he had problem with the epistle and called it the book of straw. He had problem with the books of the Maccabees as well. Luther had to agree to include the Epistles of James in his bible because his congregation was against it's non inclusion.
So this guy manipulated the scripture and then taught Sola scriptura. What a joke?

There is belief (faith) in the head only; and then there is lived faith. One can study all the aspects of gravity, say it makes sense and then say they believe gravity exists. But the person walking on a cliff-edge, trembling and sweating out of fear they may fall has a much deeper and justified belief in gravity. That is why good works justifies (verifies) a person does indeed have faith. Such a faith actually permeates the way a person thinks such that good works flow from their thoughts and actions.

Luther was just lazy. How can you show your love for God, unless you serve and love your brothers. You don’t see God but can see your brother here on earth, God’s other children. God commanded to love one another. Jesus said whatever you do to the least of your brothers, you did it to me. Jesus said if you want to follow me, carry your cross. Nobody wants to carry their own cross. Easier, they just say faith alone. Jesus will separate the sheep from the goats when it’s time to face Him at the end.

One is justified by faith alone in the finished work of Christ alone, since we could not have done for ourselves what only He could do for us. "For it is by grace we are saved through (genuine) faith, and that not of ourselves, lest any man should boast."
In simpler terms: faith is the root and works are the fruit. If the root is dead, the fruit is dead also. Genuine works in God's eyes stem from a genuine root.
The root precedes the fruit. This is why Scripture says, "Without faith it is impossible to please God."
