Li Yugang often sings certain female roles that are usually portrayed by men in traditional Chinese opera. This duet is a contrast of Dimash's Western classical style (& some Kazakh riffs) with Chinese opera.

His voice is impeccable, the air handling is perfect, his voice is powerful, incredible phighs and a perfect low voice. I love him more than before. after Dimash there is no one.

There aren't a lot of songs that make me cry with how beautiful they sound when done so well. I can name exactly two: Floor's version of Phantom of the Opera with Henk, and this duet. It's incredible how they blend when they get to the Chinese opera part, and how well they nail it on the head even with that mix of styles.

That was the "whistle note," D8. At a certain point, the note tightens and goes into this highly-valued form, and Dimash has worked long and hard to be able to achieve it. Now he can do it at will, and this makes him very happy. As for Dimash using anything artificial, forget it.
The Chinese guy is using ancient Chinese vocal techniques, which take years of hard work to achieve. The Chinese adore it, at least the older crowd. Dimash highly admires vocal talent that's based on other, unique styles and systems. He loves learning almost as much as he loves music--a real thirsty intellect. He can relate to the singers in other countries, in fact, I believe it makes him feel less alone when he meets people of his own caliber. He has no barriers regarding different cultures.

Adam Lopez, a singer in Australia, held the world record for highest male note for 10 years (Eb8) until 2018 when Wang Xiaolong from China got the E8. In 2019, a guy from Iran surpassed that by singing a F#8. Dimash's highest note is a D8 as far as I know. All of these are very insane but it is in fact humanly possible ;) there are even vocal coaches on UA-cam who try and teach it. It's not very important but as far as males go...Dimash and Adam Lopez are the 2 guys I've heard who incorporate it into their music by far the best.
By the way, reaching those notes have different mechanics with the muscles than singing in any other register. Its literally a whistle created by tightening some air space. It's actually easier to achieve by breathing in
I love this duo, I didn´tLyyugang, but I love him. Watch some of his performances at the chinese opera. They were not lyp-synching, no way, Dimash doesnßt usually do n´t do the whistle note or this metal rock voice. And Li is performing for many years and very welll known and loved in China and doesn´t need to lyp synch- Thanks for your reaction. Liyugang is a Chinese national treasure grade Beijing opera singer. So no lip synching becos that would be exactly how he would sound singing in a Chinese opera playing the female role.

Li Yugang is trained vocally and phisically to sings tragic female roles in traditional Chinese opera. That´s why you find hard to believe that his voice doesn´t fit his body: he is not in costume. But he coul break your neck even with a silky hand fan: they are heavily trained in martial arts too and can be very tough guys. Mr liyugang is a famous Chinese singer who can sing in men's n women's voices.If u think li's 1st part is better because he sang in men's voice be a king's role . In the second part he sang in cat's sound because he is playing a queen's role in chinese opera style, women sing in traditional Chinese opera style is just right like a cat's sound. A great contrast between eastern and western classic styles. Chinese opera has a very different timbre than western especially female roles. Li was singing a female role that's traditionally played by a male. No lipsync, that's Chinese opera. The note was a F#7, his highest note he's done in public is even higher, a D8.

Li Yugang is very famous Chinesse opera singer. He sings this special traditional Chinesse singing technique. In traditional Chinesse opera male singers sing female parts. He definitely didn't lipsinc. But the show was probably pre-recorded, it is normal in TV shows.

Well John, you are indeed wrong. No lip synching going on at all. As usual Dimash is excellent. Li Yugang (pronounced Lee U Gong) is a fantastic singer. He is singing a female role here ( the Concubine) and is doing it Chinese style of course. He also sings in a regular male voice and sounds great in both styles. If you google his name you will see a video that says Li Yugong songs. You can see him doing a female role( when done by a male it is called nan dan) and also male roles.
I have said that it sounds like a tea kettle before too. I love that you call it " the tea kettle note".
It's common that Chinese operas require singers not to sing with their mouths opening wide(which makes audience suspect fake singing but actually not). You can't make the sound in Chinese opera style when you open your mouth wide. Besides, it also makes an elegant facial expression impossible.(Chinese opera is not only about singing.It's also about movement and facial expression,etc)

Lol! The chipmunk is a star of Beijing opera, or Classical Chinese opera, where female roles were sung by males. They train for years to develop this type of falsetto voice. This song is a new take on a classical opera of the same title, about the tragic love story between the Tang emperor Gui Zong (also known as Tang Ming Huang) and Yang GuiFei. The lyrics are reminiscing about those past times, so we can assume it’s their ghosts talking. Probably why the “tea kettle” note and the low growl are apt here. Just saying. That is not even his highest note..he sustained a D8 for 5 seconds in his own song unforgettable Day at the Gakku Festival in China. check out real Peking／Beijing Opera, it's really amazing. traditionally NO females are allowed on stage, so all parts were performed by men. they not only train their voices, also dancing etc... I personally still prefer male performers (nan dan) but they r getting rarer as of course it is more difficult to train ^^

Implying Dimash lip synching showed total disrespect, disregard towards his hard work and efforts for the past nearly 21 years. Sure.....in some of his performances he did lip synched but that was because on those shows ALL artists were required to do that due to various reasons. Majority of his performances were LIVE.
