The 10 robot rumble was non stop action, and afterwards the rest of the episode got better.

I just love the editing in this, especially the sound. No sound effects, no music, fake crowd noises or anything during the fights. Just the sound made by the bots reverberating through the hall, JP giving commentary and the audience in the background.
4:17 to explain what happened: Apex' spinner doesn't sit horizontally, so every time the bot turns the gyroscopic precession of the weapon wants to force it to spin on the horizontal plane. So when it hit Track-tion, the bot started spinning as counter-reaction which in turn caused such a downward force on the weapon that it hit its own frame frame and did a rapid unscheduled disassembly.

I love robot wars but god damn are the bots super low power compared to battlebots. We saw later that these teams can make good bots(see cobalt and monsoon) but in this show they just seem to lack the power

Probably mostly due to funds. Battlebots you can tell it’s a much more well funded sport what with the countless sponsors and what not.
Robot Wars always to me felt more ‘Himan’, and less ‘corporate’. Most of the boys were built on budgets but it was often impressive just what could be done on such budgets.

I think Furlong would be on the plane, instead of who I dont know. But you did say based on the 6 Nations. I wonder if this a golden Irish team, the immortals, that won in NZ, the Autumn Internationals and slamed the 6 Nations - that will last for a couple of years or if Irish rugby have it for a couple of decades here. The Irish U20 just went back to back Grand Slams, wasnt so long ago Sheehan was an U20. Great days and congrats to the lads, I just saw a youtube video of the Irish team going to Ringroses house for beers , day 4 of beers, and Ringrose was a bit tired or something - so the entire team decided to go to his house and get him back on the beer!

The arena looked too polished, the new look house robots looked goofy. Angela scanlon and Dara o brien where awful presenters. The arena looked tiny compared to what it used to be the button to either release the pits or "fog of war"was so gimmicky It missed the mark on so many levels. I can see why it was cancelled a second time.

Definitely. I can't stand the cuts to things the teams, hosts, and judges say

How is the arena being "too polished" bad? The new house robots don't even look that bad and in my opinion look better then the classic ones. I didn't mind the presenters and if we're being honest it would take something big to rival Craig. And the arena is Infact the same size as the classic series. The pit release doing either the pit or fog of war was gimmicky? In what way? I don't really get your points if I'm being honest.

@@V0Rtexty Because it's meant to be a battle arena, it looked sterile and "too polished" look at the way the original was, looked so much more grimy and almost like you walked in on a back alley fight club you weren't supposed to see. It feels Uncanny almost, just didn't feel as visceral as the older series.
That take on the house robots is your opinion and I'm not going to deny you that. But I personally think the way they used to look was more menacing, shunt really hasn't changed but the others...idk they just didn't suit the modernisation they got. Also hated how few there was.
The arena looked tiny in that case that's a production issue. The old arena you go back and look at on TV looked HUGE. You had rows upon rows of people on the side to come and see it. This the audience looked like it was only about 50-100 people.
The fog of war....it's a gimmick. Like the drop zone in original series (I hated that too as it was ultimately pointless) and what's the point in having a battle where you can't see what goes on in it. That's like having a waiter bring out your food and chew it Infront of you then give you the bits they've not swallowed. It's just nonsense that didn't need to be included.

The modern series of Robot Wars was okay, but I prefer the older series. Craig Charles was the OG presenter (not the first presenter though, Jeremy Clarkson was the first).
Battlebots has so much more carnage, destruction and OTT action. The commentary though, Johnathan Pierce is LEAGUES better than Battlebots. Commentary in Battlebots consists of 'OH. WOAH. WOW. OHHHHH OHHHH WOAAHHH'.

It was definitely a more sanitised product for the reboot. Making the robots fight so many times an episode put less emphasis on the destruction part, and the teams that would have been lad and dad that built something out of parts scrounged from the scrap yard had been replaced by people that had got military grade materials and more CAD than a formula one team.
It had lost a lot of what made the original so treasured. Obviously that was the 90s and this is now but you have to think the money invested played a huge part in the competitiveness
That and by the end everyone had a spinner cos that’s what Carbide had.
