I want to have my own company for no other reason than to have an excuse to use this for managing projects. I am working my way up the software engineering ladder now as an engineering tech lead simply in the hope that I can get an entire team or more on Shape Up and Basecamp at this point 😂these changes are really nice improvements that just make selling this internally much easier too. Thanks!
Hey Jason. Thanks for the video. Appreciate the time and efforts team takes to launch new features. My team is using basecamp for 3 months now. Trust me I am a huge fan. Basecamp just works for me.
Basecamp has changed my life. It is incredible thank you. Just one thing I wish I could allocate permissions to staff and contractors as can be done with clients , as I don’t want them to see everything in the project. Other than that ahhhmazing thanks for making my life better and helping the business run more efficiently and effectively. Cheers Angelique
Hello, we have been using Basecamp for 10+ years here at Pubsphere and really like the tool. When is the calendar view from basecamp 2 going to be added to Basecamp 3/4? This is the only feature missing that is not making us switch to B3-B4 from Basecamp 2. Being able to see the milestones / important dates from all project at the same time on one calendar is an amazing tool for senior management. It also allow us to follow up on all past due ''to do'' across all projects at one place. Thank you!
Really great release. Would love to see those Figma embeds actually show the frames with zoom and panning. Then you can really review the creative in place next to the discussion
Can you share (roughly) when Card Tables will be released? We have just moved back to basecamp (after going the rounds through jira, shortcut, notion etc) and are kicking off a project we would love to incorporate our shaping using Card Tables?
Hey Jason, great video. I have 2 questions, more about your BC account specifically and how you use it. 1. where has the "Deployments" project gone that you wrote a HEY World post about? Has that board moved inside another project now? 2. I would love to know more about where pitches start and live. I've seen in the Product Strategy video that you keep them in that specific project, but only a few people have access to that. Can anyone in the company still write a pitch, and if so where does that begin and how does it make its way into the Product Strategy project? Thanks!
Man am I looking forward to the card table. I was thinking about how to manage something like that with existing todo lists and it was not a smooth experience.
It's live in everyone's account now! Just go into a project, click the ••• top right, then "Change tools" and you'll see an option to turn on the Card Table for any given project. -JF
Hi Jason, We are in the process of switching from ClickUp to Basecamp. But really having a hard time without the Kanban feature as all the team members and freelancers that we work with are kind of used to it, and they are very much dependent on it. It really increased back and forth for now as the team is still trying to do certain things on ClickUp. Trying hard to convince all team members that we need to wait for some time to get Kanban in Basecamp. Is there any way to get early access to the web, as I think you have the web version live? -- I'd really appreciate it if this is possible as it will help us move and manage things properly and as a new month is starting, Having it will be very, very useful. BTW, Read your books Remote, and it doesn't have to be crazy at work multiple times in fact, some of the things you mentioned are actually now our company values. One more request if this comment is reaching to Jason, Can you please do some kind of video explaining how to hire the right people to build a small remote team. I think your insights on this matter will help us a lot. Thanks
In practice, it's easy. You know the people, you get to know their avatars. It's like muscle memory. It also serves to represent "a few or a lot" at a glance. It's the right information at multiple resolutions. -JF
@@37signals Except nearly all of them say "a lot".. it also consistently gravitates attention away from a card's headline (images generally take attention precedence over text), but the headline is more important. Showing all of the icons all of the time implies that they are useful all of the time. But I suppose they are only useful when you need info on a particular card (as surveying all of them at once is too much info to take in). Doing something to reduce visual overload would go a long way. One way could be to only show them on hover (they could be animated in quickly and smoothly). I would try it and see if it doesn't give a better feeling of a clear and simple overview. If it doesn't work out, you could always easily revert. But only my 2c, FWIW. YMMV, and it's completely up to you.
Hey there! That HQ tag was from an earlier version of Basecamp. Instead, we recommend using naming conventions to identify your project as an "HQ." I'm particularly fond of using emojis in the project title to make them stand out. Like ⭐️Company HQ⭐️. Hope that helps! -Kimberly
I've been using BC3 early on and quit since no repeating tasks and no kanban. Been using BC4 for a week now just because you finally did the repeating tasks and will release soon kanban. Was it worth waiting so long, Jason?
It wasn't waiting, it was working on other things in the meantime. Can't do everything at once! But we do hope to get to things in time. Glad you're back with us. The new stuff continues to roll out every 6-8 weeks. Stay tuned. -JF

you and I are on the same mission 😆

Basecamp is incredible. What a great product.
Great walkthrough and appreciate seeing how you think about the product
Thanks, glad to hear that. -JF
Love all the clever touches and thought through tools
Thanks Jon, appreciate it. -JF
Looking forward to hearing more tips on how we might use the Card Table in conjunction with To-Do Lists.

Thanks. More detailed embeds would be nice, agree -JF
Yes, this is one of the main missing features I think for me. Other things like Loom, or even this very UA-cam video in Basecamp message.
Can you share (roughly) when Card Tables will be released? We have just moved back to basecamp (after going the rounds through jira, shortcut, notion etc) and are kicking off a project we would love to incorporate our shaping using Card Tables?
When will the kanban card board be released? Thats a really great thing i am looking really forward.

Please do another one for Hey! Would love to see how your use has evolved.
For clarification, 1) is Lineup a 'Timeline Gantt Chart' for the entire Basecamp Manager? 2) Can Lineup and Hey be removed? Thanks!

Hi! How to upgrade BC3 to BC4 for existing users?
You don’t have to do anything - everything is already live in your account. -JF

Hey! We are so very close. Just finishing up some details on the mobile platforms. A few weeks away.
2:24 I would try to apply the UX squint test to this page. How much value are users really able to derive from all of the small profile image circles?
In practice, it's easy. You know the people, you get to know their avatars. It's like muscle memory. It also serves to represent "a few or a lot" at a glance. It's the right information at multiple resolutions. -JF

Hey! How can I set up the HQ tag that you had in the same project just over 37signals? Thanks!

awesome! but where do i update to basecamp 4? dont see it anywhere
You don't have to do anything. If you were using Basecamp 3, you are automatically using Basecamp 4 now. -JF

@@37signals Yeah, of course. But I bet those two were the most requested features :) Keep up the good work!
