Another solid example of taking reality into account, whilst making critical business decisions. I've worked at a company where every pixel was triple checked and time spent on things that were never explained as to why they were important. It resulted in hours spent on projects that went absolutely nowhere. I've realised that this current conversation, is one I've had in my own head believing that I was actually the problem. In the digital age, there are too many who still think in the analogue age, by looking for a perfect solution before work even begins, rather than trying to find a "good enough" solution that allows you to move onto solving more complex issues. Huge fan of this format which provides a more transparent way of revealing timely information. Cheers.

I was just having a discussion today where the book "The Psychology of Computer Programming," also by Gerald Weinberg, came up, so it was great to learn about this book "Are Your Lights On" that DHH mentions. Haven't read it, will check it out. Thanks for the interesting conversation.

Thanks for the book recommendation, I find myself going back to it all the time especially on days where I'm putting out fires that don't exist, and days where I'm starting them myself. All great stuff, I can see the work you have put in to your products and it motivates me to push a little more every day. Still a long road ahead!

Basically the definition of a problem is just the solution we've come up with when trying to solve the problem of figuring out what we need to fix.

Does 'good enough' work add up to great products?

It’s kinda like maximizing value with minimal effort. So yeah, in the end you’ll produce more “value” in less time. Instead of a bit more value in a lot more time. It’s all about ⚖️
