Many years ago we experienced a mishap with a busted stub axle, in an extremely isolated area, to a new camper trailer. Mind you nothing as serious in any shape or form as you experienced. These engines are a nightmare there actually a fiat engine if you didn’t know. There common for cracking heads there is also a recall on the timing chain guide bolt that holds the timing chain guide in backing out. Definitely worth a phone call to see if it’s been done.
I've heard a heap of dramas with the Canter motor unfortunately. Seems most tour operators, remote stations and remote contractors use the isuzu nps or hino. Thanks for sharing your experiences
Different states have different laws unfortunately. It was done before it was due for rego and people that did the swap didn’t notify/didn’t know they needed to notify the authorities. Thanks mate, all back on the road now 👍🏽
No reputable shop arranges an engine swap and doesn't update the engine number... whoever that is should be paying for your headaches. Hopefully it's all behind you now.
For the last 40 odd years nothing and I mean no vehicle has an engine no. On the rego papers and rego papers in your name doesn’t prove ownership either. When I was young any engine change needed a eng no update on the papers . Once the 17 digit vin no came in that’s all that mattered to the unthinking govt and then it was open slather for the thieves stealing cars 4wds etc for good engines trans . I’ve seen 80 series cruisers cut up with concrete cutters for the running gear out of the riverbeds.
@@stephengibbs4372 yeah not sure about that as our 21 model truck had an engine number on the papers that it was Registered with then a different engine number on the engine that blew , we then brought a new engine and have had to get it reinspected for the engine swap.. my ls2 chev motor in a project still at home has an engine number 🤷♂️

Nice spannering there mate. It sucks there's probably zero service history of the motor that snapped the chain, but how can servicing prevent a fractured link? That sounds like a manufacturing defect that Mitsubishi should investigate.

You messed up when you went fuso. First 100,000km you'll do a head gasket guaranteed. DAIMLER/Fuso are the worst to deal with. The concept of 'right to repair' goes right over their heads. Not to mention fuso are the most uncomfortable cabs to sit in. The old models are good but steer clear of the newer ones. Isuzu are better but would also avoid any models with DPF. The newer DOC system seems to be reliable.
@@BingoBongo-or5ni we love our Fuso, and I find the cab way better in comfort then the Isuzu to sit, i find my knees are too close to the dash / steering wheel in the Isuzu, but hey that’s what makes us all different, I agree with how Daimler are to deal with tho definitely not easy. Cheers 🍻
15k with freight, we got it from a running truck that a company crashed, so seen the kilometres etc on the dash and seen it running Can get a long engine rebuilt from a few builders but was a month wait, they were 12k +gst 😊
@@tildesleystravelaus Thanks for your honest and informative reply, I hope your travels are free from any more major mechanical issues from now on. what are your thoughts on the Fuso as a tow vehicle and off-road rig?
The fact that manufacturers go so far to present a safe vehicle to sell to consumers and put timing chains instead of timing gears is beyond me and the only thing i can think is that they intend for these motors to fail unless religiusly serviced which is less common than it is common. They set these vehicles up to make you happy and fail so you need to give them more money. Ffs manufacturers just put timing gears on every engine.
At least you're not stranded milesnmiles from civilisation, and there's no need to worry, except for the cost. Poor choice of vehicle, though, always going into limp mode. Good luck.😊
@@owenwatson9828 it felt like miles away everything was a wait, although we love our Fuso , never had limp mode once, even with the new engine, just some bad luck with blowing up the motor just been smooth sailing since, hopefully stays that way 🙃

Man i feel for you guy's. I purchased a low km fuso canter with that 4p10 engine and it has been an absolute bucket of sh#t with nothing but problem after problem. Dpf problems, ECU problems, EGR problems, it doesn't go a week without a engine light coming on for some reason. I have been told by several truck mechanics that they are the worst truck on the road and that i should sell it and buy an Isuzu. I am glad it has all worked out for you.
Thanks, same back to you mate, sorry to hear, hopefully it goes better for you😊

Glad it’s all over fam, now hurry up and catch up to us already ❤
Haha catchup long overdue guys! ❤
Well done for getting the engine swap done in those conditions mate
These engines are a nightmare there actually a fiat engine if you didn’t know. There common for cracking heads there is also a recall on the timing chain guide bolt that holds the timing chain guide in backing out. Definitely worth a phone call to see if it’s been done.
Yes we have obviously found that out since our issues.

@@smaldo19 we did get refunded the cost of the new etc for this reason they didn’t get it re-inspected and compliance for the new engine number
@@stephengibbs4372 yeah not sure about that as our 21 model truck had an engine number on the papers that it was Registered with then a different engine number on the engine that blew , we then brought a new engine and have had to get it reinspected for the engine swap..

The 6bt’s are a beast. 😊
Cheers 🍻
Chains & belts inside motors = BS , gear drive only . . put a 2H or TD42 gear drive in it

What's a secondhand low klm engine worth for the Fuso and did it come from a truck wreckers?

Used Vehicle Dealers are all sharks, and their customers are the meat. After learning the hard way, I never use car dealers and always buy private.
@@townsville69 yeah we usually do too but lesson learnt hey 🙃
The fact that manufacturers go so far to present a safe vehicle to sell to consumers and put timing chains instead of timing gears is beyond me and the only thing i can think is that they intend for these motors to fail unless religiusly serviced which is less common than it is common. They set these vehicles up to make you happy and fail so you need to give them more money. Ffs manufacturers just put timing gears on every engine.
Totally agree 👍
Well, when you buy a Mitsubishi, what do you expect? They are crap as, sadly, you have found out. Get rid of it.
