    Perfect video! I just wanted to check new battery voltage before putting it in an old laptop to check if it was charging. The pin out observation alone was worth the video!

    Thank you. I have seen many videos teaching that you only have to connect the battery out/input to a cherger to charge it, but it is a fake, because as you have shown here one have to active it.

    Hi sir, congrats for you neat project. I saw a similar solution in another video, and ever since I been looking for a more elaborated plan, and yours is perfect. Only a well centered mind can present an idea based on scientific principles. This video brings an important solution for a common problem, and it's very convenient from the ecological point of view. I will give a solid 10.

    *This battery reconditioning program exceeded my presumptions. It worked on any drill battery, several AA and AAA batteries, **batery.repair** and any camera battery. The steps are simple and the act itself is exciting to do. No matter what type of battery you`ve got, it is sure to function again!*

    no you were right. The transistor will allow 1 amp to pass through it. You just pointed at the resistor. The transistor being the active component and the resistor being the passive I wouldn't say the resistor is "allowing" anything.

    just wanted to ask out of curiosity, are we can use that "+ & -" two pins for reverse charging rather connecting 3rd/4th wires to the laptop battery?, becoz there will be BMS board present in the battery already...

    Remember that the capacity shown on batteries usually is noted at below 1C discharge rate and no higher. Higher discharge rates makes internal resistance come into play, and they then will not live up to specs.

    • @EcProjects
      @EcProjects  10 років тому

      Yep, that's correct. This test was done at about 0.27 C (of the claimed capacity). So it shouldn't be too bad..

    Hi,
    Great video !
    It worked a treat on a pair of li ion batteries I had sitting around from two laptops .
    Thought I am having trouble with two li po batteries I have , I found the ground jumped that with the other ground but it does not give me a reading or let me charge it like it did with the li ion's ,
    Any chance I can send you a pic , it is a battery for a Asus transformer tablet/laptop 2 in 1 , the batteries have 8 wires , two for pos red, two for neg/ground black , well three really because green is neg/ground as well , Then there is a yellow , white and blue , all coming out of battery .
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hi.
    Just want to say thank you very much for uploading all the videos you do.....because i do exactly this as an "hobby" at home all the time to keep my technology memory updated since it was about 15-16 years ago i went to the electric courses at school as a "youngster".(Also cause it is so damn fun with electronics ofcourse hehe)
    I´ve noticed you have the "Atten" hot air station.I do too and i wonder how do you like yours?
    Mine came grounded to the handle only wich in most cases would work but i modified mine and "upgraded" to better ground as the casing on the hot air station is made of metallic material.
    Cheers from Sweden

      HelloThank you, i'm glad that you like my channel.. :)I think it is ok considering the price, I did actually record a teardown (securety check) of it, but never got it finished :(There was nothing to complain about in my unit, except that there was a piece of solder rattling about inside the case. I didn't pay too much attention to the grounding though, I just checked the live wires.. :)

    Hi, thanks for your guide on finding right pin to enable workload.
    Is it possible to charge battery w/o laptop? How to find right pin for charging?
    Thanks

    • @EcProjects
      @EcProjects  10 років тому +1

      Hi.. You are welcome.. You can charge it through + and GND but to find the enable pin..
      Hmmm, I'm not sure about that.. I think you could perhaps find it by connecting the pins (one at a time) to ground via a
      resistor while measuring the voltage at the output. But then again,
      there is no guarantee that connecting pins randomly would not damage the
      battery in some way or the other. :/

    If the battery power can run for about 2 hours then the battery is good and if the battery can run for 10 minutes then the battery is most likely bad. right? There are more than one way to test your batter to see if its good or bad. right?

    • @EcProjects
      @EcProjects  8 років тому

      +johnbernard17 Yeah, but it won't be easy to tell the difference between 100% good and 75% good :) Especially since the change is rather slow, so you don't really notice. This was just a way to get the actual numbers..

    Hej Mads! Er super glad for dine informative og gode kvalitets videoer!
    Jeg fangede ikke helt hvordan du fandt plus og de to gange minus på det bærbar batteri.
    Og hvorfor er det to stel?
    I min verden burde der kun være, Stel + Celler dvs normalt 4 forbindelser til et standart 3S batteri.

    • @EcProjects
      @EcProjects  9 років тому

      Hey! Takker :)
      I mit tilfælde var det markeret på batteriet, men så heldig er man ikke altid. Stel-benene er som regel større end de andre, da det er "bedst" for elektronikken at de skaber kontakt først. Plus er næsten altid i den anden side for at undgå uheld med kortslutninger. Men det er lidt gætteri, for der er ingen regler der siger det skal være sådan :) De bruger to ben til hver for at få bedre kontakt og mindre modstand. I teorien var det ikke nødvendigt, men så kan der være skidt på det ene ben uden det gør noget, hehe.. :)
      Et almindeligt 3S batteri er præcis som du beskriver, men til computere, kameraer, osv er der (burde der være) indbygget beskyttelse mod overladning og -afladning. Plus at lade kredsløbet eller dele af det er også tit indbygget så man ikke behøver adgang til de individuelle celler. :)

    I didn't know that laptop batteries are controlled by an "ECU" almost the same as the fuel administration to the engine in a injected fuel type. Even though my battery was somewhat deteriorated after forgettting it on sleep mode without autoshutdown, it was still working 40 minutes or more, now it has locked by software, and the order to charge it is sent from the chip inside the battery, and if this chip decides to put the battery in protect mode, it will not allow the laptop battery module to put tension to the charging terminals. And the battery neither will unlock the positive terminal to supply off the grid. So now i have what it was a working battery locked by software. I can bridge the terminals but it would even be safer to use a power bank plug to the main DC input (19v). I don't wanna mess with the charging terminals of the laptop. This method didnt work for me, the battery ECU is bricked (i made a short circuit in the first pair of cells with a drill, drilling on the wrong spot.

    I have a question to ask you, while you test a battery with a multi-meter.... if the number of voltage increase... then the battery is most likely good and if the number of voltage decrease then the battery is most likely bad. right?

    • @EcProjects
      @EcProjects  8 років тому

      +johnbernard17 The voltage will always decrease if you are drawing a steady current, you will have to time the discharge to get the capacity of the battery. Of course in extreme cases like this, you can see the voltage drops way too quickly.

  • @sarveshk09

    At 7:47, you mentioned that the "battery will cut off automatically".
    It seems it did cut off at 9.87v, that's about 3.29v per couple. Pretty safe for lithium cells.
    I wish to know did it cut off automatically because of the battery's internal circuit, or because of you custom made load circuit? If that cuts off because of it's internal circuit, that would save my efforts to add protection circuit and I could directly use laptop batteries in my electronic projects.

    • @EcProjects
      @EcProjects  10 років тому

      Sarvesh Karkhanis Thanks for your comment ! :)The protection is build in. There is a single PCB inside the battery pack that takes care of all the cells. I don't know if this is true for all batteries though, but the ones I came across were similar to what I showed in the video! :)

    • @sarveshk09
      @sarveshk09 10 років тому

      I will test the batteries then :), ans would make sure that they do not discharge below 2.5v per couple.
      I have one more question, can you detect the enable pins by probing the battery instead of probing the laptop connector? I'm asking you because I may be using a batteries for my projects "laptoplessly"...

    • @EcProjects
      @EcProjects  10 років тому

      Sarvesh Karkhanis Hmmm, I'm not sure about that.. I think you could perhaps find the correct pin by connecting the pins (one at a time) to ground via a resistor while measuring the voltage at the output. Hi, It would have been still better if you show complete video of replacing cells in VGP-BPS22 battery, when Laptop shows message "0% available, (plugged in, charging)". And how to avoid BMS chip from “shutting down” or disabling if the cells are removed/changed and may even refuse to allow charge the cells after completing replacement of cells.

    Hi. Maybe you should rename the title to help people find the video easier? It's Laptop for reference.

    Very high chances to kill the circuit by randomly grounding.
