Guoliang wants xu xin to hit the ball with more fast contact rather than top spin. But each time xu xin will do a top spin. Top spin's weakness is it gives time for opponent to react, which is not a problem for top players.
+Idrus R yeah but its not quit fair for xx though...when LG shows him how to do it there is way less underspin on it...so LG really can flip it to the left or right! And Xu Xin somehow has to do it softer with more spin due to more chop on the ball.
Liu used to play with short pups he is used to flat hitting with as much speed as possible, his play style is very different from XX and he is trying to teach it's strength right now, XX is a master away from the table but Ma Lin and Liu Guoliang are close to the table specialists so XX could learn a lot

that is a fast loop over the table, just like a forehand loop flip. Xu Xin playimg style is kinda waiting and he likes to loop away from table and thats why I think the Coach insist him to loop faster over the table as a combination but powerful shot
After 4 years this payed off, since 2019, XX has become a real Superman,his unpredictable for hand stroke is annoying and even his back hand is insane right now, even Malong, Fan XaoPang and other top pro players were beaten up. Especially, the screaming boy gets nervous everytime he's facing XX and never wins a single match.

he's teaching "hidden" forehand loop using different racket angles to sidespin it to change the direction. his criticism of xx as other ppl said is not to drag and open the shoulder, and that his movements are too obvious
liu is teaching his technique which clearly cannot recover for next ball. Liu's technique is playing a shakehand stroke using penhold grip which clearly does not fit. As you can see today Xu Xin is still playing is own style forehand and not the one Liu taught here.
In China.. Table Tennis Training between Coach n Player to get Diligence into 100% Perfectionist. Its Crazy.. And that's how they remain World No.1. And that is Professional. 100% Focus... Super Amazing.
He was teaching Xu Xin how to coordinate his whole body to hit the ball. Throughout the process, he commented and demonstrated after each return to show Xu Xin what he did not do well and what he did well. It's very rare for the head coach of a top level table tennis team in the world to be teaching a player such subtle movements.
These guys seem to be on their way to learn how to hit a ball, soon they can go to competition and test those skills in real life! :) Joking aside.. amazing how well Liu can hit the ball and xu, even though how great player he is, still seems like a novice trying to learn what "The Master" is trying to teach.

It is almost like Xu Xin is clueless what the coach is asking him to do. This is actually bad coaching. At that level Every person has a style and technique. Hard to change that unless it is his Achilles heel. Liu is coaching him like a newbie. For a player at Xu xins level it should be about tactics, ball placements , strategy etc, not this basic stuff which he probably will fall back to his old style in the crunch under pressure
Do you really believe you know better than Liu Guoliang on how to coach? Yes, top players have their own styles but they are also expected to be adaptable. Without adaptability, they cannot improve, much less make it to the Chinese national team in the first place.
I love watching Liu's face after he himself hits the loop. They sort of stare at each other for like 2 seconds every time.

Coach Liu clearly plays better. He's just older, but he definitely has a good touch. He didn't miss one while demonstrating.

教练主要教
1.不要晃动身体。要等到了合适的位置,稳定后再击球,不用着急过早击球造成的动作变形。
2.教的是,利用手臂、手腕的力量来击球,不要过度依赖身体其他部位的力量,比如腰部。
3.重心要放低,蹲下身体与球台一个水平面。

I think it is totally the opposite. Liu was teaching the traditional penhold forehand tricks.
Penhold style is all about short game and third ball attack.The last real penholder was Ma Lin.
