- Today I went back to the Union Pacific West Colton Railyard! Trains are seen arriving and departing, as well as being put together by trios of classic switcher locomotives. In addition, high priority doublestack Z trains can be seen passing by on the adjacent UP Alhambra Subdivision.

Modern railroading is such a stale place now. This was SO much more cooler back in the 80's when Southern Pacific owned all of this. But, the video is excellent.

Awesome video I've always wanted to go to west colton
it's pretty cool. they're going to wind down operations over time as they convert most of it to an intermodal yard. So come sooner rather than later if you plan on it
Quick question if you can answer, how do yard train symbol's work? I see YWC for Yard West Colton but what are the numbers after that? Thanks.
In the opening scene, in the foreground is a tank sitting on two foundations. The cement slab in front of it, use to have a metal office building. I don't what the purpose of it was, but it's been gone maybe 15 years or more. Does any of the local (to Colton) Railfans or railroad employees know what the building was for and when it was removed?
was removed right before the SP/UP merger and was a general shelter for ground personell and train crews working the yard
