Your two flange stiffeners you welded on the back. I did the same but I put a bar with slots on each end that slides on the stiffeners I then drilled and tapped the center of the bar.so a bolt would fit through the frame slot. I use it for a guide for the metal but it adds a lot of strength to the arms. Thanks you very much for your demo.
You did a fantastic job building and demoing that bead roller. Forget what the other's criticize and really have probably never done anything with metal or tool fabrication.
I'm glad to see that I am not the only one that heavily modified and/or reinforced this bead roller. We did the same idea but approached it completely different. After seeing your approach, yours is a lot better. Your changes didn't change the size of metal you can use like mine almost did. I used 2" box steel that's 1/4" thick. The way this roller is designed, the upper arm is the weakest part of the tool so I ran a piece of box steel from on end to the other on the upper jaw making sure I didn't interfere with any part that was adjustable. I welded my bead roller to a 1/2" thick diamond plate. The plate was given to me by a good friend where it was used to cover a trench in the road where some form of street work was going on. He happened to stop by my shop with his work truck which had 2 plates sitting in the back which he gave me both plates which I eventually turned into small workbenches. After welding the bead roller to one end of my small, heavy work bench I welded a piece of 2" box steel from the top of the work bench to the end of 2" box steel that I had welded onto the upper jaw of the bead roller. It's far from winning any beauty contests but it has no problem putting a bead into anything that I ask it to. I really like adding an electric motor to it. I am going to do that to kine
Thanks for your comments. Yes Granger would be one possibility. I bought my no. 35 chain and sprockets at the local farmer/tractor supply, eBay is a good alternative, just do a search for "no. 35 sprockets".
Really nice job on the roller! I use the same model at work and was just looking for ways to improve it, and you definitely nailed it. I would have liked to have heard a little commentary on your improvements during the video, but otherwise it was really inspiring for my own project. Thanks!
Wow! Very well done! Impressive! Thanks for the video and the encouragement you provide others. Would not mind hearing your narration about the trials and tribulations you might have overcome. Again, thanks!
Good looking mod. My bead roller is so old it came from JD2 before he was ever selling benders. 1987. Its same style as HF but 1/2" plate and little more precision on the shaft mounts. I'm going to motorize it now that I'm using it more. Your video is good help on that thought.
I definitely recommend a quick release clamp for adjusting the dies instead of turning the handle, of all the mods on UA-cam I have only seen one or two who upgraded the adjustment mechanism, Jere Kirkpatrick is one. , I enjoyed watching you great modification.
FINALLY!!! Finally I watch 1 of these bead roller video's where the author includes the electric motor, where to find it, it's HP & RPM's. Finally I can quit wasting my time with the other clowns that think they've reinvented the wheel. A big THANK YOU!!!

That said, I got almost everything on eBay at discounted prices without having to deal with 'we don't sell retail' industrial suppliers . No. 35 gears and chain from Tractor Supply or eBay.
No, I'm sorry I don't. I had thought about it but the variance in motor configurations makes it kind of difficult to cover all the bases. I just hit on a particular motor on ebay and once I had it in my hands I just mocked it up and McGyver'd it on there. The purpose of the clip was to inspire others to have a go.
was your motor made to be reversible? the bodine I bought is not reversible from what I have been told. says it will damage the bearing plate in the gear box. I have tried the bead roller though and it works great but just in forward lol beads 16 gauge steel and .100" aluminum. will cut it too with the cutting dies. happy with it so far . needs some paint and a handle yet.my stand is on wheels like yours. it has to be as my garage is pretty small and everything has to be movable.

hi after watching this video last night I found a bodine motor 1/9 hp not sure how many rpm yet for 58 bucks new in box on ebay I seen a commit below that said OEM Bodine 12.5 MFD starter capacitor does that come with motor?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Probably would be a good question for the vendor. Also make sure it is a reversible motor. Some are not reversible, don't ask how I know this :-)
Hi Brian, depends on what motor you have but you might try the info here: www.industrial-electronics.com/motor_control/3h_Reversing-Motors-Drum-Switch.html

I agree. You made some really nice modifications. I will follow your ideas and weld some up with my everlast. They would make very good additions

@@mgermca I've found a few gear reduction motors with a seperate speed controller on Amazon, but none tell their shaft size, lol

mgermca what size sprocket did you use ?
This is all relative and depends on your motor speed. My target was approximately 10 rpm at the dies. My motor shaft rpm is 39 rpm. As you can imagine, if you are not using a 39 rpm motor these numbers mean nothing, except for the 10 rpm at the dies target..
The dies do not move in and out on the HF machine. It's a possible future mod though.Thanks.
