Uniform online banking ang voting law, should be proposed to empower and educate people about why online voting is totally reasonable.
USA still using such outdated voting tech is ridiculous and holding back other progressive voting reform like rank choice voting, more parties beyond the lesser evil choice of the two duopoly parties, national popular vote, mandatory voting, and high turnout....
USA is ranked very low on the Wikipedia democracy index page, far behind many other democracies.

There are 330 million people in this country. In 2020 there was the highest turn out of 66.8%. It is not possible for everyone to vote on the same day or in person . There has to be other options. Vote by mail is it.

I'm in my 70's. Before the 1980's one had to meet requirements to vote absentee. Here in CA it became easier and easier until, like in our county, eved regisgered voter gets a mail in ballot and it's up to them how to vote. By mail or in person. If a voter forgets their ballot they vote provisionally. Regardless, every CA citizen is respected. What's sad is when so few ballots are returned. That voter apathy is, I observe, the reason why we are where we are today.
I have never missed a vote. So few Americans can say that. 😢

In Ohio the last 3 elections i had completed my form for mail in voting. All 3 times I did not get my mail in ballot and it forced me as a result to go vote in person. I even went down personally last time to complete the firm and never git the ballot. Election Board in Sandusky COUNTY Ohio had again no explanation. Note worthy this never happened prior to 2016.

I've had rheumatoid arthritis for 25 years and I love mail-in-voting. I signed up for permanent mail-in-voting in Virginia (rural area, voting place is 20 miles away) and mail my ballot back as soon as I get it so I can track to make sure it's received.

Considering in some places the trumplicans are going to court to stop vet association places (forgive I'm Scottish forget what the proper title for vets places are called) from giving out or promoting mail-in ballots the hypocrisy and stupidity is not surprising. The gop are waging a war on voting rights and any group they think may vote against them comes under attack. The gop is now a fully fascist authoritarian party. Respect for your service sir.

As a retired teacher I can tell you I never had a single day in which I had 100% attendance from my 150 to 170 odd students (depending on year). Some people who intended to vote on election day will not, for any variety of reasons including being ill, be able to make it to the polls. If the majority of people who vote on election day are Republcans, it means they will disproportionately be negatively impacted by this simple fact. In a close election, that might be the difference. But, this is logic--something seemingly increasingly difficult for the Republican party to grasp.

The option to use mail in voting in Pa is phenomenal. I’ve used it the last 4 years. Don’t have to take off from work to vote, don’t have to wait in line due to a lack of poll workers, or long lines. Can look at your ballot ahead of time and make well thought out choices. It’s a great thing for democracy!

    • @richarddoig1865
      @richarddoig1865 10 місяців тому

@@gcro9206texanforever I think every eligible voter should be sent a ballot. I also think that you should automatically be registered to vote when you get your drivers license. Regardless of political parties. The more people that vote the better off this country is. If ballots were sent right to your address, it’s so much easier. I think in the long run it would save a ton of money as well. No voting machines to malfunction or tamper with, no poll workers to pay, no polling places to rent. Of course, it would require people to process votes, but I think that would be cheaper in the long run. There are a bunch of states that already do all mail in ballots, and they have minimal issues. Republicans are absolutely terrified of the masses voting because their ideas are so terribly unpopular. They can’t make it harder to vote if you can do it by mail…Good luck down there! Florida and Texas are a different world.

Absolutely wild to me that youtube has a 'voting by mail' context tab now. It's bloody voting by mail, but thanks to trump apparently it's a controversial thing that 'requires sensitive additional information'. Honestly, the way these tags seem to be used these days, at least to me, is almost as trigger warnings. That it's been done for VOTING BY MAIL is honestly insane.
EITHER WAY! Thank you very much you lovely democracy docket folks, keep up the hard work. We democracy lovers are behind you! Absolutely agreed mark, having people have to watch you vote is insane, good luck if they are a vigilante vote watcher too. Yay democracy -_-.

In Wisconsin we do have early and mail-in voting. In 2020 the Republicans in Wisconsin shortened the early voting to 2 weeks since they said Milwaukee and Madison who had early voting for a month had too much of an advantage so restricting Milwaukee and Madison to 2 weeks would make it fair with the north. Most of us thought it would be most fair if all of Wisconsin would have early voting for a month. I would love there to be a national law where early voting would start on Oct. 1 for every fall election and go Mon.-Sun. every week till the November voting. Regarding Sunday, when the Clerk Office is not open they could still have secured ballot boxes. We always vote early for the fall election at the Clerk Office where the person is able to see us complete the process. The annoying thing is it must be done specifically with nothing missed as far as signature, date or whatever. I recall too vividly the Florida 2000 Election where over 100,000 ballots were thrown out since people wrote-in the name of Al Gore or George W. Bush since the punch machines were not working well. If those ballots had been counted since it was clear who the person voted for then we would have had Al Gore for President.

Those of us who do not live in the U.S. and are not military only have one option, vote by mail. And I still can’t get registered in Minnesota, because my “information can not be verified.” Unless I make a greater effort than I have so far, contacting my ‘local’ election official and getting told I must have filled out the wrong form, (which I hadn’t, but I tried again, same result), I’m not going to be able to vote.

Go online to your state’s Secretary of State site and find the page labelled Military and Overseas voters. I think every state has that. Register again as an overseas voter, just to be sure. You might have to do that every election cycle or every year to keep your registration current. There have been weird rule changes there, too, but you’ll be starting fresh.

I live in Oregon where we've had mail-in voting since 1998 (nine years before I was born). We've never had any kind of major issue at all with it. It's smooth, easy and you can either mail in your ballot or take it to a drop box. City halls and county/city libraries typically have drop boxes at their locations. I may be a bit biased, but I believe we could be used as a benchmark for the success of mail-in voting.

For years I have voted mail with mail in ballot. I will continue to do so. I prefer mail in because in the comfort of my home I can go online, research and make an educated choice. Versus standing in a voting booth with the pressure of the impatient line waiting to vote and voting haphazardly and quickly in order to keep the line moving. I want my vote to help not hinder how our future will look. Mail in ballots allows me to do the research without the pressure of the line behind me.

Mail-in voting here in South Carolina is an insidious proposition. We’re older and handicapped. Our mail-in ballot was rejected four days before the last election, giving us no time to try again. The government here is determined to discourage blacks, the young, and the handicapped from voting. They are quite successful at it.

It gives me time to look up candidates and ammendments I might be unfamiliar with. There is NO GOOD REASON to monkey with any Americans RIGHT to vote. The vote is the most common right mentioned in the US Constitution and the Ammendments. Voters should choose their politicians, not politicians choosing their voters.
