Here is what I learned. You are a great mechanic. No one knows everything and you learned on this job for the next time. Also, you shared that info with the world instead of pretending like you know everything so you helped out us as well. Mistakes or a slight lack of knowledge are nothing to be upset about. You just learn from it and keep on marching forward. You also offer customers great advice (whether they take it or not) instead of not advising them and letting other stuff go wrong to get another job. An Honest mechanic creates lifetime customers. Another outstanding car video.
Now, you and Eric O need to hook up and do a project. That would be epic :-)
Thanks for what you do!!
i have the same problem code P0299
u great man, beyond mechanic, a respectable human being, thanks for helping!! if we can only have more people like u in the world.... thanks a lot
u great man, beyond mechanic, a respectable human being, thanks for helping!! if we can only have more people like u in the world.... thanks a lot
somebody give this man his flowers, wonderful job 💐
Thank you 👍
Thank you so much. Watching this now as a young girl with a pretty new Chevy Cruze having this exact issue.
So the takeaway is, change your oil. And it looks like if anything else goes wrong with the car at least it won't be the turbo. And thanks for the video.
Clean oil is super important for these turbos . It's crazy how people neglect the simple things
Amazing video, replaced the whole turbo on my 2016 Buick encore by myself! You're a great mechanic
Glad the video helped you
I've done a lot of these. I used to work for a courier company and they had several of them. I always had fun testing them out to make sure everything is ok, they're surprisingly quick. The throttle response is instantaneous and smooth. I've thought about swapping one into my Miata
This engine swapped in a miata? I don't know about that lol
It's the info that matters, the money saving comes in the diagnosis and inspection. Thanks for your video!
You're welcome
@@themechanic6117hey good afternoon. I have the same problem with my chevy trax 2015.
I live in Maywood area.
Any chance u have time in your schedule?
Your last comment about the AC is giving me high hopes about why mine isnt working. Been kind of dealing with my p0299 issues and have come to the conclusion that the compressor is not working on my cruze, which i dont think is worth fixing at the cars age. Hopefully when i tackle the turbo issue the AC will have fixed itself.
Great video explaining why the Turbo failed in the first place. The oil feed line on my Chevy Cruze LT was leaking when I first started getting the PO299 code. It was probably clogged as well, but didn't think to check since I was just replacing it. This seems to be a known problem on the part of Chevy with the design of their oil feed pipe.
It can be good and bad at the same time, as it's next to the hot exhaust it heats up the oil very quickly which is good for the winter time but still bad for the oil because the constant heat wears it out very quickly as well which makes it thicker.. and this is why you need to replace the oil more frequently and not wait too long. This goes for every turbocharged vehicle..
My next door neighbors have 2 chevy cruze with turbos , a 2018 & 2017 . both over 100K and never had any problems so far.
I've seen car with that turbo engine completely neglected and a ton of miles and it's still kicking. I guess some cars are luckier than others
I guess I got lucky on mine. It finally kicked the bucket after 135k miles
Watching your video Bc mine went to shit today. now I gotta replace mine this weekend. Great video thanks
Good luck
Agree with your comments, check your work and parts before you install, it back..
Thanks for another great video, mech a n🔧c!
Thanks for watching
Nice Job! I really appreciate how much pride you take in your work! Awesome Mechanic/Technician!
Thanks for the comment 👍
Ahhh love all the Chevy hate in this video 😂 my man!
Chevy thunder ! 🤣
Of course I see your comment when researching my issue haha. Likely bringing mine in soon.
Having the same issues that you showed on your video, awesome information you gave , on the P0299, will have to get a new turbo for it.
Tks for an awesome video.
How much did all that cost..?
Thanks for this video it really helped me to solve my turbo problem on my 1.4chevy sonic
I'm 100% with you on the details of the Repair.. I tell customer's, I'm The Doctor, what is the Aling Problems their noticing with their Vehicle
A trick I use on beetle heat riser tubes blocked with carbon is an old clutch cable in a drill.
Just splay out the end for best results.
That's a pretty good idea .thanks for the tip
Adding this to the list of things I might have to do on my son's Cruze. 🤦♂️
Taking one for the team and blowing on those oil lines are nasty af lmao. You a good man for doing it x)
😁👍
Thanx, awesome video and very informative as far as troubleshooting and saving time vs money 💰.
Thanks for the comment
Just to let you know the oil turbo line that you're playing with has to be replaced due to the fact that they have an upgraded version which has a heat shield on it which will prevent clogging of the tube and it comes with dual o'rings to help seal it better
If you finished the video you'll see that I replaced the line with a new one
Great video
I replaced the turbo and I have oil coming out the air inlet (looks like radiator hose)
Did he seriously say LT on chevys mean LITTLE TURBO? lol that is a new one but I like it and will use it in the future for people that do not know much about vehicles
loved the video helped me a lot
You're welcome
Hey nice knee caps thanks for showing em!😂thanks for the vid man helped out alot!
Great video !! Thank You ! I'm in the middle of this shit show right now going for the head gasket !
YIPEE !! LOL !! One thing I can help YOU with is that the oil pressure tube that was plugged now has a heat shield on it from AMAZON for about $20, Thanks for your help and being an HONEST MECHANIC. AND you do good work, YOU HAVE A NEW SUBSCRIBER.
Head gasket....that sounds like fun lol. That heatshield is definitely a good idea
@@themechanic6117 I believe the name of the company that sells the tube with the heatshield installed is DAYTON ?. It was 94 degrees here today so "I let my wife talk me out of" (LOL !) working on the Buick. I married an absolute DOLL this time....and it's HER car !! We've got 144K on this Encore. GRERAT little car and YES it's surprisingly QUICK !! I used to drag race and this little pooch got MY attention !! When I get this finished, we'll out some miles on it and trade it as long as I know it's Ok. I'm like you. I find NO joy in screwing people. I used to sell cars and had a LOT of repeat customer or they were bringing their neighbors/kids to buy a car. As it should be !! Thanks again !
Thanks for the video tho you explain it as basic as you can which I can appreciate as I’m not a full mechanic lol
The new turbo should have came with new clamps. Also it should have came with the coolant lines too. Oh and replacing a turbo can be a 2-3 day event- especially if you are doing it yourself without access to a garage or rack.
Turbos are great at being efficient, when they work properly. I do hate this design with the integrated exhaust manifold though. Audi/VWs(VAGs) have a similar design setup.
It's not the best design but it's also not a horrible job to do.
4:20 new sound for the next videos... Also with the bird signal when you try to afraid them out to the garage
Ha! 🤣🤣
53k miles and poor maintenance. Thats how long a turbo lasts. So, Do we now recommend 3k oil changes again instead of the 5k or whatever? :)
Thanks for the great video
Thanks for the laugh man your hilarious 😂
Thanks for watching 😁
Wow hats off to the muffler shop who finds an impeller INSIDE THE CAT, shrugs, and puts it all back together. What has happened to mechanics!? Great video...I also hate working on my cruze...huge POS
Thank you sir👍
Thanks for watching 💪
Great video and good tips 👍
Thanks for watching
This guy is awesome
Thank you 👍
That is a replacement fill tube. Someone replaced it and didn’t tighten the one bolt. I can tell because it has two O rings. The original factory tubes only had one O ring. So Chevy knew this was a problem.
you should have installed new supply and return coolant lines for the turbo also. no doubt those are going to start leaking very soon.
You're right. I learned my lesson
What brand turbo do you like? Recommend. I need to replace mine on my 2013 and all 4 lines.
Awesome video I have the same code on my 2012 Buick regal I change everything I change the turbo bypass solenoid boost solenoid change the whole turbo but still get the same code low boost
Most likely the turbo was the bad part all along
I put a new turbo in my car but still got the p0299 code...
Check for cracks in any of the plastic tubes. They can Crack and allow boost pressure to escape
Ok I'll check all the plastic tubings .. 👍👍
Amazing video - great job. I have the same code, the car is sluggish and has a rough idle, but does not have a misfire. The code has been there for about a year, but never had any power issues up until now. How much time is a normal turbo repair.
It's hard to say, the job can get done in a few hours
*@**11:26*
Cut top off of spray can with hacksaw.
Be mindful of previous contents/under pressure, wear PPE.
Great idea! Never thought of that. Time to do that in preparation for next time I need something like that
@@themechanic6117
I was just helping The Canadian Bubba clean a carburetor- I advised him to make an impromptu ultrasonic cleaner.
Whatever container you have for the part, use a 50:50 mix of ATF + Acetone, and attach an unbalanced motor, or (best) a $25 Harbor Freight engraver to the container. Dial it in, until you see the destructive waves hitting each other, like little hammers. Ultrasonic vibrations are key to cleaning. Throw in an aquarium heater- hot solutions work even better.
An actual heated unit is only $50 on Amazon, great for stuff like injectors, tubing, etc.
These Cruzes just seem like money pits for the owners
Yeah they're definitely junk
A little advice, don't weld those cheap clamps if you can afford $25 to buy a new one. . Replace them. They are onlt $25. You don't want that clamp breaking on you later. GM service manual says throw them out. There is a reason for that. Nice job on that!!!
GM has a code - Garbage Motors.
😂agreed
What are the names of the 2 pipes you bought apart from rhe turbo?? (One you got fromcthe dealership as you said and other one from amazon)
Thank you!
@The mech a nic
From other comments I read, it looks like the one he was trying to clean is an oil feed line
Oil feed and oil return lines
Great video but you pixeled out "the money shot!" 😕
Have to keep it family friendly lol
🤣🤣
Great job and yea its a no brainer replacing those feed pipes. New turbo wouldn't of lasted long.
Good job 👍
Thanks for watching
You happen to have any part numbers on what you used. I'm going to have to change my fiancés great video btw
Sorry I don't. The turbo came from ebay so if you search chevy cruze turbo it'll pop up. On ebay they're pretty much all the same aftermarket turbos. The pipes and Hoses you can find on Amazon, turbo oil inlet and turbo oil return.
Plastic oil return tube... that's just genius!! =/
Yeah , let's make this almost boiling oil return via a plastic tube....it'll be fine . 😁chevy garbage
Thomas, you sure are making your rounds lol
Nice to see you in here, watching this young man at work.
Thomas is the best! 👍💪
7:15 Come for the repair, stay for the shenanigans
🤣🤣😁
good
great video ! where did you get the turbo ?
Ebay, but you can get a oem part from rockauto at a Decent price
Is that camera connected to your phone? Where did you get that camera?
It's just a generic usb camera that you can find on ebay or Amazon. Yes it connects to your phone
It’s crazy how accurate the timeline is with her car failing and mine lol CE light came on on the 8/03/2023 and I’m trying to fix it today 8/12/2023
were you located i have the same car with the same problem
Rebuilding the cartridge is feasible and cost less than buying the whole assembly, the cracking issue in housing, is resolved with a new exhaust manifold.. doing both is still way less than buykng a whole assembly..
Hey , how much do it cost to repair turbo or to fix the code ?
Yes change your oil BUT this is a problem
With the oil tubing is to close to the turbos body and baking the oil in the tub causing a clog oil line to the turbo.
The 2016 late, 2017 has a 1.9 Ĺ the turbo oil pipe
Is hung out in the breeze this is what I have my problem is oil in the inter cooler and plenum to throttle body.
The problem with this is oil is going in to the intake and crusting the valves , direct fuel injection.😢
Hi. Igo I want to ask you a question I have the code p0299 I already changed the turbo for a new one but it keeps giving me the same error I changed the oxygen sensor the pressure sensor too but I still have the problem I delete it and after reaching 80 mph it turns to activate and the car loses power completely, what problem could I have?
Hey have the same issue I changed the turbo with a new one also changed the 2 oil lines and getting under boost code
Did you figure out what was wrong
About how much was the turbo I'm having the same problem with my cruze
Code p029 showed up on my Cruze today, I’m gonna try and see what exactly it is but now that I know it can be the turbo I’ll check that last, hopefully it not being the thing that bites me in the a**
Where did you get the turbo from
Ebay I believe, it's not a oem part
So is the turbo that throws p0299?
I had a 2014 Cruze eco and the entire engine locked at 21,544 miles. Thankfully the dealership replaced the engine under warranty. It never ran the same so I traded it in on a Nissan truck Titan XD PLATINUM RESERVE
My friend bought a sonic brand new and within a few months it had already been back to the dealer for "defective parts" two times .not a good sign . Those cars are nothing but problems
Nice job! Where are you located? How much was the final price?
In Chicago IL, I can't remember the price but I know it was less than $1000
Where did you find the new turbo and how much was it?
It was a few hundred off ebay but you can get a oem turbo off rockauto for about $400
Im installing turbo #4. The latest one looks ok but the fan hits the wall when its running but i dont see any damage but i hear it inside.
Are you replacing the oil feed and return lines?
@@themechanic6117 i did 900 miles ago when i installed the turbo. I wasnt planning on it again
Can you tell us where you sourced the new turbo. Thanks
Just a regular turbo off ebay
Wondering what do u charge for labor for such job ?
Hey Jonathan, do you sell those channel license plates?
I’d love to buy one for my garage!
Unfortunately I only ordered one for myself.
Hola a.
What happened was found a turbo impeller in the exhaust and then sold it lol
That's a possibility
I had a cruze and went through 2 turbos in 18 months. So yeah, several bad designs i'm seeing in this video.
This is why it's critical to change those two pipes I showed but it's just a bad design overall
well u missed some thing on the first one.
where was this turbo purchased? I'm needing a new one for my cruze
Ebay
How much does a repair like this cost?
Where did u ordered it from
I think this one came from ebay but I recommend buying an original oem part from rockauto
So I just had my car at the shop and they replaced the turbo and all the lines to the turbo. I am still getting the p0299 code and then another code p0033. The car has absolutely no power at all and when driving you can hear something like sounds like it’s kind of sucking air.
Sounds like it needs to go back to the shop that you paid.
@@themechanic6117 yeah it’s going tomorrow and hopefully they can fix the issue.
Is this oem or aftermarket turbo, just found out mine has a crack on exhaust side, searching for a good replacement, thanks.
This is aftermarket. You have two option. Cheap aftermarket or expensive oem
@@themechanic6117 can you send me link to the one you got for this replacement?
I don't have a link for it. It's just a generic turbo off of ebay. They pop up everywhere once you start searching
@@themechanic6117 Thanks! will be getting those 2 lines as well, glad I saw your video/advice
hey bro where and how much did you buy the turbo charger
This turbo is nothing fancy. Just a cheap one off ebay
was it making a rattling noise at all?
This one wasn't but sometimes they do
Sweet jorts! @5:35
wished you were in so cal so i can take my cruze to you...
Where you buy the turbo from?
Ebay
Can anyone help me out w the specs on the parts replaced. I’m having the same exact issues w my Cruze LTZ. 99% sure my turbo’s propellor is cracked as well. I had the dealer switch out the thermo under a “recall” for “free” in sept all that’s left is the turbo and the oil/coolant lines for it. I want to get a Garrett turbo. I don’t trust GM. Just want to make sure I get the right turbo and lines.
Nic as nicaraguan ?
Where did you get the replacement turbo?
Ebay
Link?
Dude I need mine done how do we get in touch to talk.

Sorry I don't. On a chevy parts website it's pretty easy to find the parts you need
2:56 I'm pretty sure not all GMs with LT trime have turbo.
Every LT I've seen has a turbo. Just my experience
@@themechanic6117 LT” stands for “Luxury Touring”.
Ok one thing. I ain’t no mechanic. But you showed a video of the empaler. It was in the old turbo while you had it. Unless you did this video. Then gave it back.
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.
