- Today, we're going to be doing some Procreate logo design!
My Assets are from Adobe Stock ► First Month FREE: bit.ly/AdobeStockTrial
Tools Used ► Adobe CC : bit.ly/AdobeCCLink
The Process
----------------------
In this logo design tutorial, I'll give design critique for the logos you guys submitted. We will go through the entire logo design process: color, typography, hierarchy, and overall theme. Each logo will be redesigned in an effort to improve upon these aspects.
I'll be using Procreate on my iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil and occasionally Illustrator CC to create the logos. Everything will be designed from scratch, including: choosing fonts, picking color schemes, coming up with logo design concepts, creating custom illustrations, and ensuring all of the logos meet their intended use cases and goals.

Now, I'm understand about making a logo as a beginner. Thankyou for making this video!
could you change my design for my you tube?
Why does the upper crust logo look like a dude in a trench coat and a hat.
My only critique as a consumer is that the VOODOO logo now looks like VOXDOO.
5th
5:44 in the original logo, the eyes were different colors. I think if you made one eye a swirl and the other a button it would've been cool. But 2 years 2 little and 2 late
Oo, I love the button idea.
@@Abelhawkyeah, because voodoo dolls tend to have button eyes, would’ve been a great way to tie that theme into the logo even more
The old voodoo logo gave me a premium clothing brand vibe. Loved your matching redesign ❤️
for me it looked like a tattoo studio
@@Finda5 same
I thought I was the only one
@@Finda5 for me it was like a really fancy restaurant
@@elinavoronina3185 So then the question for the business would be: Do they want to have that perception of slightly aloof fanciness baked-in to their branding or do they want broader appeal, no-nonsense simplicity and friendliness? It really depends on the niche they're trying to fill, whether they're positioning themselves as premium and prestigious or come-as-you-are and accessible.
And THAT's why logos and branding are so important 😊
I think the new Voodoo text is sorta difficult to read too, so it would have been nice to try and just incorporate their old text-only logo at the bottom. Both because it looked nicer, and to make it feel less like a "throw it all out and start over" of an established restaurant.
I agree, the redesign almost looks like it says “voxdoo”
VOXDOO
VOXDOO
@@Sulfuric-Dioxide sulphur
@@spookii.yeah, I felt it would’ve made more sense to put a stitch in all of them, VXXDOO or even VXXDXX
Found the voodoo ( original block text ) really hard to read “VOOOOO” and the final reads like VOXDOO to me. Love the redesign just what I thought ! Love the series! I thought maybe you would clean up the original letters leaving maybe a tiny bit of embellishments but I get what you mean about the menu, really changes the initial impression of what the restaurant will be like going from fancy to fun
Okay
Yeah I read it as voxdoo too
For the bulldog, I do wanna say, that was a logo for a sports team, and they usually have one defining colour.
okay
Hey Brandon,
thanks for redesigning my logo and featuring it in your video. I really like your take on the Bulldog logo. It really is more aggressive now and overall a huge improvement. Especially the eyes are way better now. I really struggled with those. The only thing i would try to change is the skin fold (I dont know how its called in english) of the Bulldog. I think I have motivation to work on it again.
And I really love the redesign of the first logo. Its impressive how digital hand-drawning with brushes completly changes the look and feel of the logo. I might get myself a draw pad too.
Thanks for submitting it, Kevin! Had a blast working on it :)
Dude, it looks like you copied the Georgia Bulldog alternative mascot logo almost exactly and that can be found everywhere on the internet with a simple search. If you didnt copy (and just changed a few lines) then it is VERY similar and you should always check to make sure you arent doing some parallel thinking. But I am pretty sure you just used an old logo because they are WAY too similar. Biting (stealing) someones art is bad form in the logo and art world and a good way to never get work with that reputation which is hard to shake!
@@avidadolares almost exactly??? There isn't one element that is even close to being the same. With that logic every Bulldog mascot logo is an exact copy of the other.
I had the alternative logo as a reference, like many others. But I didn't take any inspiration at all. I could even show you my drawing progression if you are interested.
@@kingjellyfish7909 To add - do what you want...but there are certain things working pros dont or shouldnt do, or they dont work again. It feels like you tried to pass this off as your own when it CLEARLY was based off others previous designs. You didnt REDESIGN anything. You just redrew it. Theres a difference. Hey its your life.... but you have been warned. This is a massive no no if you want to stay working.
@@avidadolares bro are you actually mental? Like what the fuck haha
Did you even try to read my response? I clearly stated that I used it as a reference like many others. Something called a mood board. You know seeing how different artist had drawn certain things. Because drawing a bulldog isn't easy, if you like to still keep it streamlined without many shadows and lines lol
I literally told you that I had a progression. My base was a traced photo of a Bulldog. But you keep assuming I copied something which isn't even the case. Because both logos don't look remotely the same. They share the same art Style.
And the most fun thing is that I am not even a fucking graphic designer. I did this for free for my local sport club. I don't have any financial gain from it.
Get a grip dude.
IMO the original Voodoo logo was way more interesting and cool than the redesign. I understand the problems with readability but it could've just be solved by color and/or line thickness
It’s not just readability, it’s the detail. It’s too much for a logo. Both were cool, but they were just in different styles.
I agree, the Voodoo logo was a rare miss for me. Also, the redesigned version very clearly reads "Voxdoo" to me
The whole point of a logo is to convey the brand identity in a simple format. The original voodoo design isn't bad, it just doesn't function properly as a logo. Mcdonalds is literally just a yellow M shaped like fries, it's intelligible from a distance and in passing. The original voodoo logo would look like a blur of white w that many small details.
I think it just demonstrates how important branding is. The first one to me, feels like upmarket bar i’d go for a special occasion. The second one feels like a dive bar i’d be in all the time.
Too much for a logo better for a shirt
One thing i've learned in my 11 years of digital art and logo design is that there is not good or bad. Every designer has it's own way of seeing things and it's just a matter of taste. So for whoever is out there thinking what they are doing is bad,IT'S NOT! You are doing great, keep your own style and be unique!
I love that you have a very identifiable aesthetic. You like thick lines and curves, and bubbly, rounded letters and images. Very cartoony but in a gritty way
Griddy!?
@@wiggard bro
Wow I’m so impressed of your redesigns! Especially with the bakery logo. You just removed some parts and put it together differently and then it looked 10 times better than the old version :o
Thank you so much! It seems like a lot of the time the natural tendency is to add things to a design to make it better, but sometimes removing something is all it needs :)
I usually agree but in the case of the bakery it go completely unrecoginzable. It lacks something special in my opinion.
@@DailyShit. yeah I agree
@@DailyShit. i agree too. it's like the important part is not here anymore
@@DailyShit. agree
I like your redesign of the voodoo logo and your reasoning is all sound, but that original logo is too damn dope as is
Please bring this series back!
This was really interesting! I’m planning to major in graphic design so watching these videos have been really informative, I def see why you make the changes and can agree to them!
Awesome! Good luck with your design journey 😄
The first logo is mega cool ! It would be great as a book illustration or something other than a resturant honestly, so i think the one you made fits more the vibes
I can't get my eyes off of the bulldogs logo!
You are an incredible designer and a HUGE inspiration for me and other designers!
Please continue this series!!
I BEG YOUUU
Hey Brandon, love your vids, and especially this series. I think you did a great job with the VOODOO logo, bringing it to life and lighting up it's personality as a restaurant. The upper crust logo is definetely for the better too, but I would love to see how some of the blue color could be incorporated into it, and lastly- absolutely amazed by the Bulldogs logo, just plain breathtaking.
Every time I see the before and after, I can't help but audibly say "wow" haha. Great work again, man! I'll have to submit for next time!
Please do! Love to check out your work 😄
You're design skills are just out of this world. Simple adjustments, but cleverly thought out. Brilliant!
Bro I am really glad I found your channel, yes there are tons of yt videos on logo. But overall your theme a d background music makes it so calm and straight to the point. Learned quite new tips keep going bro.
Blown away. You’re incredibly talented, Brandon. Thanks for another great video.
I felt more could have been with the Upper Crust bakery logo. The simplification removed a lot of its character. The contrast is gone, and the eiffel tower theming is gone.
I watch a lot of designers and artists on UA-cam and can honestly say I enjoy your videos most. Grateful for UA-cams algorithm bringing me here 🙏 🙌
Wow, that's so awesome to hear! Really appreciate it :)
Wait… so this is the guy who keeps simplifying all the logos!
You should do more of these! I really enjoy watching this series!
The B in Bakery on the second logo is the most beautiful font ever!!
you are not just an artist but a really great teacher
thank you!!
You're very welcome!
Super talented man!! Keep coming with these videos!! I learn so much from watching them!!
Glad you like them! More coming soon
So happy I stumbled on your page. I have been binging on your videos ever since
I love your videos so much! You’ve inspired me to become a graphic designer
Upper Crust was super simplified! Very impressed on how you designed it so quickly and it made a major difference.
These are fricken awesome! I love this series!
Thanks, Dylan! Hope things are going well with your new clothing brand
Dude I’m such a fan on your content! Straight to the point and no fluffing around. Perfect!!!
Thanks a lot! Happy you're enjoying it. Let me know if there's any video in particular you'd like to see make in the future!
Brandon Shepherd I’m a designer also and I’d love to hear about your designer struggles so I can relate hahaha
I love these kinds of videos, I am considering starting these as well.
You are doing a great job with the redesigns. The VOODOO logo was my favourite, the subtle grain and hand-drawn look fits it perfectly.
I'm always waiting for new videos from you. I'll try to muster the courage to start too.
Thanks a lot! If you're wanting to make videos, you should definitely just start. The first one feels like the hardest because you're worrying about 100 different things besides just your video (like your channel name, banner image, profile picture, content plan for the future, personal branding, ...). It's better to just get one done and posted and not worry so much about it being perfect. There are also a lot of different ways in which you could present the same info, so just pick something that's the most comfortable to you. Best of luck 😄
@@BrandonShep I appreciate the suggestion, and I definitely agree. I'll start the process then :)
thank you for very descriptive how-to videos, this really helps. ^^
You always inspire me , thanks for the great work
Amazing as always! This is very helpful, because I´m a graphic design student and logos are my weakness.
Thank you for sharing it with us :)
Awesome! Logos can be tricky just because there are so many different styles, plus most of the time, it's all about taking away as many elements as possible, which can be hard to bring yourself to do lol
First time watching anything like this, and I love watching these types of videos!
Glad you found my channel! Hope you enjoy the rest of the videos I've got as well as new ones to come!
Fantastic stuff as always!
They are all amazing Good job!
amazing vid man! super happy I found your channel! subbed!!
Awesome designs, love the bulldogs one, its definitely my favourite!
The Bulldog redesign was exceptional.
Dude keep posting and your channel will blow up in no time, I'm serious you can easily get 500k + followers. Your videos are really high quality 🔥 love from Canada❤️
Thanks a lot man! Let's hope it goes to that size 😄
Really great and enjoyable video! In the Voodoo logo, the letters "D" and "O" are highly similar, which makes it hard to read. Maybe by putting the pins on the top and the bottom of the "D" would help distinguish them. Cya!
Amazing 😍... Please upload more videos... Learning a lot from you ❤
The Voodoo logo looks pretty nice the two vers. looks good your version and the original version
Succinct videos, and yet they're crammed with useful design info.
Great channel, dude
Thanks a lot! That's what I aim to do
I love the OG voodoo branding!
Awesome video man. Love the positive attitude and am always impressed with the final result. Sub'd and I'm looking forward to future videos!
Awesome! Glad to have you aboard, Joel!
Improved all of them
Thank you for such a knowledgeable class..
All looked great
I was just wondering when a new vid would come!! Fav channel on UA-cam at the moment! Go Brandon!
Very happy to hear 😄
Just leaving this here for the algorithm. Great vids!
Awesome video, keep it up!
I love all of it
Hi Brandon. Looking forward to seeing all of this later today but wanted to respond right away. I've been loving Procreate!
Thanks for commenting, Mallory! Procreate is the Bee's Knees 🐝
Great job as always. I thought that the Voodoo logo was great until you added that cross stitch inside one of the "o"s. You ended up with the same readability problem the original logo had.
Thanks for featuring my work! I always enjoy your videos.
Of course! You had a great base to work from. Thanks for submitting it 😄
I am a graphic design student myself, and for a class I too had to design a logo with the same fictitious bakery (the Upper Crust Bakery). So, that's cool to see that in this video. I originally had the Eiffel Tower in my logo, but got rid of it, deciding I wanted to keep the broken baguette graphic I made instead (my teacher suggested I get rid of something so the logo wasn't too busy or cluttered). I also used the France flag as part of my logo, along with the business name. I also had to make two different colored versions, and I was thinking about the baguette when I did this, because for one color theme the baguette looked more darker (as if it just came out of the oven), while in another theme it was a purple-ish pink color that made me think the baguette in the logo was more like cake. Of course, I changed the colors of all aspects of my logo to fit with the colors of the baguette (to fit the theme), but I felt I put more focus of the baguette (but I am not complaining, I liked the designs I created). Anyway, it was just cool to see someone else create and submit their logo, using that name from their graphic design class, for this video.
the last one u def made it better
In the VOODOO logo, maybe make the left or right pin a fork, to emphesize the restaurant theme some more. Spoon and fork.
I think the first bulldog felt like a 1979's T-shirt and works for it like that. The redesign is modern and makes good stickers. Neither is objectively better than the other, but I do like both depending on where and how they would be used.
great video!
IMO the bulldogs logo looked much older and the knew one looks more like a fierce toddler who’s angry, i think the black and white part looked much better because the knew one looks like a t-shirt design more than a sports team logo
honestly i think it'd be perfect if the voodoo stitch was on the d instead of one of the o's. it'd make it more distinct and easier to read
i know this is old but it was fun to watch! keep it up
i like your style really.
you crushed it with the bulldogs logo
I love this videos.
Honestly great design ideas
Glad you like them!
i'm almost finishing binge wathing your videos. They are so satisfying and you make it look like it's so easy to make them. you need to make a lot more Asap man! i'm running out of videos to watch. :'(😆😭
Great redesign! It would have been funny if the bulldog name at the end was a dog tag because that’s sort of what it looked like anyway!
I thought the original Voodoo designs were beautiful, but you're right that they 'missed the point'. I hope those designs get used for something more fitting in the future because they're gorgeous in my opinion. I really like the changes made to the Upper Crust brand, although I think framing the final design with the coat of arms shield would have brought it to life a bit more. Finally, the bulldogs logo is a little messy, anatomically speaking. I think the actual football team has had very similar logos in the past that do the "angry Tom and Jerry dog" look a lot better, although I feel like if you don't want a grumpy looking baby as your mascot you might not want your name to be Bulldogs, especially with football when the name is basically already taken by a nationally recognized football team. The identity of your football club should not share the same name as a football team unless you're a fan club or something. I'd suggest changing their club name to the Shepherds or Wolfhounds, allows for a fiercer mascot and a unique name.
I love your videos!!
Thank you!
Hello i am le person that replied to u on reddit Anyways ive been watchin your channel for like an hour or two and ye it's pretty cool you should really continue this series aswell as your other series like Logo and packaging design.
The upper crust redisign was much simpler, but it missed the whole French aspect of the bakery.
1 one was a real style, better than the redesign imho. Bulldogs looks awesome.
Aw just two videos? I need more logo critics !
Btw I'm no Graphic designer (yet) but I like the original Voodoo design more. Idk might give the professional atmosphere the owner wanted. I Also think it's not always necessary to make the logo simple. People also memorize overly complex logos. But then again I'm no graphic designer or have any experience.
The voodoo logo is dope
At first I didn't see that the dog looked like it was an angry chubby kid, but once you finished yours, it cracked me up because I finally saw it in the first one. It was still good though.
You're really good.
This is such an underrated channel. Brandon deserves a millions of views.
Thank you, Ganesh! Maybe the channel will get there someday 😄
Could you make a video that explains how you "clean up" the logo? After you completed the bulldog logo in procreate, I'm curious to see how you tweaked it in illustrator
It's usually just a lot of tweaking. In this case, I went back over the dog and made the paint lines smoother as well as made a vector version of the white outline in Illustrator so that it would be the same width all the way around. Generally, the clean up process is slow back-and-forth edits that aren't very interesting and would be somewhat hard to talk through and follow since I don't really follow a clear process (I just make a lot of tiny changes till I think it looks good).
Yep you definitely improved the voodoo logo
Nice!
The simplified skull reminds me of the brawl stars logo and the voodoo text under it reminded me of the GTA font they use...but keep up the great work
you snapped in the redesign man
Glad you liked it, Pedro!
The Voodoo one is amazing
Was waiting for a new video~
Now you have it! 😄
@@BrandonShep Yess~
Pls more redesign logo videos, it's so cool
I can see Brandon simplifying the Bulldog logo again in the next video and making equally brilliant arguments for it.
I loved the original Voodoo logos. Maybe the letters in the diamond shaped logo could be made a different colour or something to make it stand out. Or maybe the diamond thing can stay as it is as an icon and just have voodoo written underneath in small text as the caption. The redesign looks too cartoony and too simple, which I feel takes away from the rich historical vibes of voodoo.
I loved the bakery and bulldogs redesigns though. A few little tweaks can make such a difference!
Should do this again, I’d love to see what you done with my logo 😅
I think you should also mention that a logo shoukd represent what the establishment does. Like with the first logo, it resembles a tattoo parlor or a goth clothing store, rather than a restaraunt.
THAT VOODOO JUST FEELS LIKE VOXDOO NOW!
I think I like the original Voodoo logos. I know they break the rules, but that's good sometimes.
I feel like Voodoo was originally too complex but I feel like the edited version is too simple
2nd logo is good👍 and 3rd logo i like more the bnw version that's my fav one and 1st logo is okay okay...
Big fan of your work 👏 greeting from India🙏
Thank you.
i said it before but i love your work man!
