I spent 6 months in Airlie Beach in the late 80s working on sailboats --- it was a LOT different then. Of course all places change, but still, it's shocking.
We couldnt get over how much the sunshine coast had changed. We sailed up past the glasshouse mountains and it looked so built up with multistory building everywhere. Certainly has changed!
@@CandidTourists it's a pity, and it's happening all over. Seems that most of the Whitsundays are still low key. It's too bad you didn't have more time there with and opportunity to have a closer look at some of the islands. At times when I was sailing around there we were the only boat at Whitehaven Beach. I doubt that happens now! It's a pity about the Sunshine Coast, though I suppose it was inevitable.
Thank you for sharing! I live in Sydney and I've never been to Airlie Beach. Hopefully someday I will get there.
