So cool to see this... This, Jaws, & Twister always stood out from my visits to Universal!
10 Years Today Since The Passing Of The Attraction.
Kong, We Still Miss You Big Guy :.(
@SGarv04 How about NOT replacing rides and instead finally expanding the park and mixing classics with new.
I miss this ride. I wish they could bring it back ASAP!!!
Agree
That last Kong animatronic in your face is actually terrifying. I would honestly be screaming for my life. This ride seems way past its generation, can't believe this was built in the 80's.
went on this with my wife bac in 95. excellent ride and fun!
Bringing back memories of family vacation! Sad to see this one go, along with BTTF. This did have its fair share of breakdowns, but I mostly remember being scared in that trolley car! I agree with others-it sure would be nice to keep some of the classics and expand the park.
Was Spielberg mad about JAWS closing? As it was his movie. I know I was SUPER ticked off when JAWS closed! I don't really remember BTTF though I did ride it, but as for Kong, sadly I never got the chance to ride Kongfrontation :( It really is sad
This looks amazing even by today's standards
Yeah, but the Tram driver sounds wooden as a board.
went on this ride when I was about 5 years old..had nightmares for years lol
When was the last time universal made these kind of rides
I'd love to see the layout of this ride and line queue so I can compare it to the layout of the Mummy ride today
@MadFaceGriptape
That's only true for the California version. This is the Florida version. An official reason for closing this ride was never given.
The amount of detail and story put into Kongfrontation far surpasses King Kong 360 3D, I miss this ride :-(
This was a great ride i i can't understand why it was torn donw!!
I'm sad that I never got the see King Kong Encounter or Kongfrontation before they burned down/got removed. I refuse to believe that the new Kong 360 thing is anywhere near as good. I'd rather see that awesome ruined New York set and the enormous, heavy Kong animatronic than watch a 3D movie for 2 minutes.
These rides are becoming "too old for relevance". Well, im sorry, but there was so much more heart put into these rather than just smoke and screens. Bring em back Universal.
@SGarv04 Technically, ET is the only TRUE original left. Twister opened in 1998, and Earthquake was replaced with Disaster (which is nearly identical to Earthquake, but with a few new elements.) in 2008.
The lucky thing is that if ET is closed in USF, Spielberg will have a massive rage (he was really, really unhappy that it was closed in Hollywood) and Universal kind of need Dreamworks. ET is the only one left of the big four (Kong, JAWS, BTTF and ET), it's sad really. That said, there has been talks of a return for BTTF and Kong in some updated form, maybe based on the Kong ride set to be in Universal Dubailand.
This ride was a classic and it's a shame it's not there anymore in some ways, but IMO The Mummy is the best ride at Universal.
@SGarv04 Thankfully, we won't have to worry about that anytime soon since Spielberg had mentioned how the ride was "sacred" to him, therefore demanding that universal keeps it.
The giant King Kong kept breaking down and it was to expensive to maintain.
when i was 5, my parents and i were in line for this ride, and right as we were ready to board, i told my mom that i had to go to the bathroom. so i never got to experience this ride. really wish i had!
violet bowie you couldn't wait 5 minutes? I would have smacked you
@sn9696 I think it's because it kept breaking down... I remember getting stuck on it a few times, though I was young. Maybe they'll decide to reopen it one day :)
It was a really gud ride but i doubt it will ever re-open as the mummy returns has taken its place an for my opinion is an awsome ride an was a gud reason to close the king kong ride.
wow, that cool :D
cool
I think there was a new kong ride made based of the 2005 film but it may be just part of the backlot tour.
That ride based on the 2005 king kong is in Universal Studios Hollywood. And it is known as King Kong: 360 3-D.
Damian Cossetto
and it is being developed in florida now
And now it is out!
Great ride ridiculous that the mummy took its place u can barely c anything in that ride but oh well
adalis gonzales the mummy is a great ride, but I do miss kong
That was what it was called. I'm not surprised they waited so long to do the Jackson one they had a big expectation to fil living up to the original 1933 and 1976 King Kong remake. The sequels to both versions did not do as well son of kong came out in 1935 our middle 1934 king long lives came out in 1986 made 300 thousand dollars before it was pulled out of theaters. Original mighty joe young which came out after kong did really bad also. The Disney remake made many years after Disney died did a lot better.
why did it close it was cool
I went on it when i was 5...
make Godzilla Ride that better
@sn9696 cuz it was set on fire
I saw a comment on another video from someone that was an employee at kongfrontation. They said that it closed because they didnt want to offend people... something to do with 9/11... i havent been on this ride so i dont know much about it.
They had twin towers in the backdrop but they removed them and then they ended up taking the ride down. The ride in the other park burned down
abartel6 Actually they closed the Orlando version to make room for the Revenge of the Mummy coaster. The Hollywood Studios version burned down in a bad studio backlot fire in 2008.
you just repeated what he said
Classic Universal. Now it's just projection city that no one give a shit.
Where are the WMDs when you need them?
I wished they had the Empire State Building with King Kong on it.
1990 to 2002 :_ - (
Kiilan Stephens 2000-2002 i was a baby when it was there wish i could've gone on it when i was 1 :(
WHAT WAS THAT THiNG BEHiND KiNG KONG at 1:53 a HELiCOPTER?!?!?!?!? D=
lol laughing #DEAD
that s
WORST. SPIELING. EVER>
Sure this ride had tons of detail but Revenge of the Mummy is a roller coaster universal needed
