8 years on and still it's the best and most memerable game i've ever been to! Even now watching it again it brings tears to my eyes. Andy Gray at 1.00 says 'surely that puts the tie beyond Tranmere' - what did he know? AMAZING! Such wonderful memories!!
Im a saints fan.. I've got to say...it still hurts now! I was there and I just couldnt believe what I was seeing! Got to hand it to you though, you deserved it really. And that was a very strong saints team out that day with the likes of James Beattie (when he was good), Wyane Bridge, Paul Jones, Dean Richards, Marian Pahars, Chris Marsden and many others. Typical saints to throw it away like that though...it one of at least 10 times we've done that in recent years!
a young jason koumas there i see :) coming from a west brom fan, that sends shivers down my spine, it has to rate as one of the best comebacks ever, when barlow put that ball into the net, that feeling you can't describe. glad to see andy gray getting it wrong aswell :D
"And that Surely Put's the Tie Beyond Tranmere!" LOL! Andy Gray didn't learn to not say the game was over at 3-0! He did the same when Milan were 3-0 up against L'Pool in 2005! Don't Count Ya Chickens Andy!
I went with the missus who hates football, I was all set to go at half time but for some reason she persuaded me to stay! Thank god she did! It has got to be the best game of football I’ve ever been to 😊
funny story this, the same night my beloved Wycombe won their 5th round replay. With scores at 1-1 midway through second half we had a man sent off, our keeper saved a last minute penalty, at 2-1 down in extra time we equalised in the 119th minute and won on penalties 7-6 against Wimbledon, a truly memorable evening! Came out the ground and heard about this game on the radio, talk about having our thunder stolen!!!! What a great comeback from Tranmere, one of my favorite F.A Cup moments!
Okay, amazing comeback, one of the best matches I've seen etc (and this is from a Bolton fan). But I do still find it funny how you had this "cup tradition" of knocking out the Premiership sides, and then Liverpool came and just did you in. Still, regardless, respect for this night, as Gray said absolutely unbelievable, and he means unbelievable!
There was definitely something in the air that night. Even at 3-0, there was chanting and optimism after half time. The loud cheer for the first goal... people knew it wasn't just going to be a consolation!
I'm a Southampton fan, I remember this game, absolutely terrible it was for us, couldn't believe what I was seeing. Fair play to Tranmere though, they did bloody well.
After all the hype of Newcastle coming back against 10 man Arsenal yesterday being called "The greatest comeback"... I just had to watch the greatest comeback I've ever seen. In fact Andy Gray had it right for once...
Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up Remeber the night well When the team came out to rockford files. Never been so excited in my life. Hopefully the glory days will come back to prenton park and we'll get out of this average-patch.
on the fields of prenton park were once we watch the king chanlor throw, AND COULD HE THROW. stuie barlow on the wing, we had dreams and songs to sing on glory on fields of prenton park.
i wish i could have been to this match, my dad's always saying how Tranmere have never made any good comebacks, well here's a comeback that Manchester United would be proud of!
Tell you what as a Bolton fan I still despise Tranmere and I mean that, but full marks for this game. Absolutely unbelievable game and Andy Gray is right when he says it's possible THE best ever FA Cup comeback. And that's the only credit you gits are ever gonna get from me!
Liverpool only got 3 back and won on penalties, both teams (Liverpool and AC Milan) had equal quality and bank accounts. Tranmere got 4, when bottom of the championship, against a team in the premiership with much more quality and money, i think this game wins.
haha yes what a run it was. this was my first ever tranmere game at prenton park. My second ever tranmere game I seen. I seen the round before (everton 0 - 3 tranmere)
stephen reece Oh Southampton had it worse mate, trust me it's never nice seeing your team messing up a big lead. I remember going to a game where we played Newcastle a few years ago at their place. We were 4-0 up and it hadn't even got to 30 mins. Guess what happened after half time?! That's right, they scored 4. It was devastating and it actually felt like a loss. I don't know if it was worse being at that game or witnessing us blowing a 3-0 lead to the mighty Anderlecht!
@weirdkid124 i think it went when John Aldridge resigned at the end of that season. After that we went through managers like there's no tomorrow. we need him back, but that will never happen
Wycombe's manager got interviewed after their match the same night, and the interviewer asked him if he knew what had happened at Prenton Park. His reply was something along the lines of, "I don't care, it can't beat what just happened here". How wrong he was!
@joesophie90 ENGLISH FOOTBALL'S GREATEST EVER COMEBACKS 2001... Tranmere 4 Southampton 3 (FA Cup 5TH Round Replay) - Tranmere Rovers produced one of the most dramatic comebacks in FA Cup history after being 0-3 down at half time to win the game in the 90 minutes!
@wycombebarmy66 Wycombe were great...I was a kid when they played liverpool in the semi-final and I was hoping they win but the keeper (i think it was taylor) was injured and was not substituted! There was even e black player that should be suspended because of cards but the fa had allowed him to play in that game! I guess i'm the only one in albania to like wycombe lol!
@joesophie90 ENGLISH FOOTBALL'S GREATEST EVER COMEBACKS 1984... Q.P.R 5-5 Newcasle (Div. 1) - QPR were trailing 0 - 4 at half time. 1957... Charlton 7-6 Huddersfield (Div. 2) - The greatest comeback in English football history? Charlton were losing 1 - 5 at The Valley with only 28 minutes left to play. From the 15th minute, they were reduced to 10 men by injury. Hudderfield remain the only team to score six times in a league match and lose.
@joesophie90 ENGLISH FOOTBALL'S GREATEST EVER COMEBACKS 2009... Peterborough 4-4 Cardiff (Championship) - bottom-of-the-Championship Peterborough stunned promotion-chasing Cardiff by salvaging a point from a game in which they were 0-4 down at half time. 2004... Tottenham 3-4 Man City (Premier) - 3-0 down at half-time and reduced to ten men after Joey Barton had been dismissed. 2001... Tottenham 3-5 Man Utd (Premier) - Spurs were 3-0 up at half-time.
Think about all the times he must have said that though at 3-0. He's got it wrong twice in what, almost 20 years of commentating... I think its not a bad record. Who would have disagreed with him at either the Milan game OR the Tranmere game at the time he said it?
@Morrissey71trfc he took us to a cup final and pulled off two of the best matches in our history. i don;t call that a shithouse, but keep up that negative attitude, you'll have a fab life.
@gdaulby yeah as usual ,if you have an opinion about anything tranmere related then you're being negative. nevermind the fact that he took us down and i know players who played under him and don't have a good word to say about him. So take you're head out you're arse and you're tongue out of Aldo's

R.I.P Dean Richards.
As a Saints fan this was an awful experience... well done to Tranmere! :(

This was the first ever game of football I went to see.. loved it.
One of the best games I've ever seen! One of the fa cup magics!
Fantastic game, I was there! Lowly tranmere beating a premier league side what a comeback!!!!!
its weird how a team so good just cahnged so quickly #SWA
I went with the missus who hates football, I was all set to go at half time but for some reason she persuaded me to stay! Thank god she did! It has got to be the best game of football I’ve ever been to 😊
I counted 4 ex-Everton centre forwards involved in this game. Rideout, Barlow, Beattie and Gray in the commentary box lol

I'm a Southampton fan, I remember this game, absolutely terrible it was for us, couldn't believe what I was seeing. Fair play to Tranmere though, they did bloody well.
God be praised...Holy Prenton Park and Aldo
After all the hype of Newcastle coming back against 10 man Arsenal yesterday being called "The greatest comeback"... I just had to watch the greatest comeback I've ever seen. In fact Andy Gray had it right for once...

Aldo needs to get back into management, he was a crackin motivator. got an undeserved hard time at the end of his Tranmere reign.
Wow what an amazing game!
Was a pleasure to mascot tha game hahaha
haha yes what a run it was. this was my first ever tranmere game at prenton park. My second ever tranmere game I seen. I seen the round before (everton 0 - 3 tranmere)

Ahhh Stuart Barlow, remember him playing for County, scored some good goals & a nice guy as well, shame that idiot Chris Turner got rid of him! :(
happy memories
best team on merseyside.

Where did that passion go ?, Maybe we need to go back to liverpool and everton for their cast offs.
When you need a comeback you score a hat trick
Come On Rovers.
yeh, will never forget!! shame about the state their in now.
Southampton lost because at halftime their players nipped off down to the bookies to put bets on Tranmere winning 4-3 lmfao.
@Morrissey71trfc he took us to a cup final and pulled off two of the best matches in our history. i don;t call that a shithouse, but keep up that negative attitude, you'll have a fab life.
