Then after some years you finally start maturing and pulling yourself back together. Another change. And most times you come to a point where you are much closer to the girl you used to be but a more mature version. I think this process a lot you see a lot with tweens. Went through it myself too. For 5 years I've been mourning my best friend who passed away. I know he wouldn't want me to be wasting my life sleeping and being sad. This year has been interesting. I always cry with this song because she's telling her story, in a very pure and simple way: she changed, she's been through a lot, but she feels younger now.
I didn't shed a tear but it does make me want to. Like I said, it feels bittersweet for me when I hear the song. Sad that I didn't join the world to help Miley kiss her Disney days goodbye but happy after seven years she found the image she was meant to have.

You have to let the girl grow up and find her own way. She was tethered to a Disney facade for so long, having to portray a candy coated ersatz version of herself. So many of these artists who start out as kids, especially under the Nickelodeon or Disney company, seem to break lose when they finally come of age. It is as if it is the first time they can explore their art without restraint. We have to give these young people space to evolve into the adult artists they are meant to be. When I compare this song to "Party in the USA", it is evident that this song is more heartfelt and personal to Miley.

I liked the choreography in the 50's style scene (poodle skirts, etc). Totally reminded me of the choreo for the Hannah Montana movie for some reason. But I think it was intentional, despite the choreo being different. :D

For 5 years I've been mourning my best friend who passed away. I know he wouldn't want me to be wasting my life sleeping and being sad. This year has been interesting. And I feel like Miley is healing the final pain and telling me "Go out there and follow those dreams". I will. And the funny thing is I feel like I'm 19 again. I do feel younger now. It's like this whole mourning has stopped my life of aging. Mistakes and realization were made in the process during these 5 years. We all go through this in life. And for me I'm seeing that 🌈 at the end of it. Thank you Miley & I love you William 💕 I promise to finally start my 19-year-old self again ✨
