Over my 50 years I've had 6 of these dogs, including the wonderful little girl I have now.
I love this breed so much!
They are watch dogs in the sense that they are alarm dogs. They are great at alarming you at the slightest thing. But if you are looking for a watch dog that's also a guard dog, that's not this breed. If you manage not to be scared off by their very loud very deep very aggressive barks then you find the definition of "all bark and no bite" and more likely than not have a new friend that only wants cuddles and playtime with you.
But yeah, if I had a nickel for every time I uttered the phrase "stubborn, thy name is Keeshond" ... well, I'd have a whole bunch of nickels!
Just a quick example, the other night, I was making dinner and threw away an empty can of soup. I usually let my dog lick the inside of cans before I throw them away. This time I forgot. My dog has NEVER gone into the trash, knocked it over, or anything like that.
This night she knocked the trash over, found the can I forgot to let her lick, took it, and left all the other trash alone.

These are beautiful, loyal, affectionate and intelligent dogs that make it worth all the effort you put into them to make them part of your family. Samoyeds, Pommeranians, Huskys, Malamutes, Chows . You can't miss with any of these spritz breeds.😊❤😊 2:34

I've had 2 Keeshonds ( btw, it's actually pronounced "kays-und" but if you say it that way no one will know what you're talking about). One was completely blind & bravest dog I ever had. The one I have now I got as a puppy. I've had many, many dogs, & these are the happiest, most loving dogs ever. Separation anxiety & excessive barking not a problem w/ either of my Kees, barking only at people who come to the door or at deer. I cracked up when I heard they could be aloof to strangers---my current Kees loves EVERYONE---we were at the mailbox when the carrier came by & my dog jumped into the mail truck & sat down (LOVES to ride in the car!!). They aren't really stubborn, just a bit cautious & they hate to be in trouble. My solution to the grooming issue---I keep my pup shaved down---he's too uncomfortable at room temperature, & this way, no grooming problems---I have someone else do it about 4 times a year. Biggest downside---they are really expensive to purchase, as they aren't bred as pet dogs but are show dogs. But worth it.

I've had 6 of these dogs, some of them would drop their coat twice a year, then the rest of the time barely shed at all. Others shed constantly year round.

I've had one of these kind of puppies before I would say the only down side is their very high maintenance when it comes to grooming. You probably don't want to try to groom them yourself. Other than that there are great dog to have around.

love my Keeshond so much. Grew up with them as a family dog (parents are on their 5th or 6th) and have one of my own

It is often mis-pronounced. It is properly pronounced "Caze-hond".

I do not agree. This dogs need a lot of mental stimulations. They are high energy dogs with high prey-drive. Not so easy to train- this dogs are a really stubborn. Grooming can be difficult for the first time owners because of their thick fur.
