  • K & S Railway (#307): One of the most unusual railroads on the Pacific slopes, K & S Railway served the Silvery Slocan for almost 15 years. The narrow gauge line started in old Kaslo and traversed some of the toughest terrain on the continent to get to the booming community of Sandon B.C.

Back in 1964 5 of us hiked up to the K&S Railway grade and walked along it until we got to Payne Bluff. All that was left were 2 rails that were suspended in mid air & attached to the rock cliff. Below was a sheer drop of what looked like a couple of thousand feet. We all walked these suspended rails (about 20 feet) and got to solid ground. I was afraid of heights but my dad talked me through it.

Isn't this show from a 1990's PBS series? I watched the whole video, fascinating!! But where is Kaslow? Sounds close to Kelso, which is in Washington state. =)
