- The doctrine of justification by faith alone addresses this critical question: What must we do to be saved? During the Protestant Reformation, this question prompted heated theological controversy, and it remains an important question for us to study today. In this message, R.C. Sproul looks at the doctrine that Martin Luther upheld as the article by which the church stands or falls.

You cannot read Romans 3&4 and come to any other conclusion but that justificatoon is by faith alone in the righteousness of Jesus Christ alone.
Yep. Salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, to the glory of God alone.
Our Faith in Christ Jesus thru the Grace of God is justified thru the "WORK OF FAITH" (Charity of Love) and not thru the "WORK OF LAW."... for "FAITH without WORK (Deeds/Acts) is a DEAD FAITH"... (James 2:14-26). Amen.
what a mess....
Is a person saved by "faith alone" as is used in the modern climate? No! Is a person saved by faith? Yes. Similarly, a believer is also saved by grace (Ephesians 2:8), by the gospel (I Corinthians 15:1-2), by baptism (I Peter 3:21; Titus 3:5), by enduring (Matthew 10:22), and by Jesus' blood (Romans 5:9).
The Catholic view is clearly another case of man looking on the “outer appearance” and God looking upon the “heart”.
I wholehearted agreed with Martin Luther on the doctrine of justification by faith alone. God the Father is just and he deals justly in dispensing justice to the unjust. But God the Father declares the the unjust as justified through showing grace to those who put their faith in his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
I've been Prot. my whole life, and to this day still go to a baptist church. But its funny I never read the Bible from beginning to end. And as I do so it becomes clear to me that Protstants are wrong, as is this gentleman, with respect. Infusion, baptism and penance seem more biblical to me than imputation and faith alone. I like the idea of penance. The Bible seems more real to me with that understanding. Faith alone and imputation has become empty to me as I actually read the Bible myself and get older and wiser. The Prot. Church feels more empty to me, as all the sermons increasingly do from week to week.
This is my story, to god be the glory, im just a sinner saved by grace
Dr. Sproul was truly a Lutheran. I thik after Luther Dr. Sproul was the onl person who tught more on Justification by faith alone.
Great lose for us to lost this man, such an intellectual person.
I love how RC focuses on the positive affirmation of being in Christ, rather than the fire and brimstone condemnation of our life here in the flesh route some take.
■ "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only." (James 2:24)
Amen! .🙏.
This is the central question. Everything else is outside the central question

Sola Fide
The whole thing then hinges on what is meant by the term faith. Is faith merely a one time moment of a feeling or declaration of trust? It would seem that it must be more substantial than that since we would expect more from our friends, children, or anyone else than simply words to show that they trust us or believe our willingness and ability to help them; how much more then for God who puts us to the test, and says plainly, "show me your faith without works, and i will demonstrate my faith by my works."
