    Yes , most toilets are like that in Japan and are all sparkling clean. I’m huge fan of public restrooms in Japan. I did get a chuckle when you thought that hand wash was child’s urinal. Yes they do have child urinals but that isn’t one of them.

    When I saw the title of this video in my feed I knew exactly what you'd be showing! I absolutely love the high-tech Japanese toilets. So much so that I ended up buying one. It takes a little getting used to. Now I can't imagine living without it. But apparently I didn't pay enough to receive the sound effect feature.

    If you noticed, the urinal in the ladies restroom was small so to accommodate your young son or nephew. Also, bathrooms at the malls and train stations are similar although not as quite as clean (because of the heavy traffic of people)

    I had a chance to visit tokyo once.Yes these are complicated restrooms and when you step inside, for some time you just think what to do with all those buttons all around.
    I suddenly switched on the sound button and I was worried why it was making noise of birds chirping and water fall sound🤣

    Yes....I've been to Japan, back in '97. However, at that time public facility toilets had not quite come up to the modern era. Most toilets that I remember from that time were hole-in-th-ground squat holes. Back in 97 there was a hotel bathroom workers strike and many workers refused to get down on the floor anymore to clean the 'toilet'. I think that as a result of this Japan decided to step up it's game and come out with a whole bunch of electronic / automatic toileting features.
    1 Q I have about your video: why is the 'little boys' urinal up so high? It seems to me that the only way a young male child could use the urinal is if someone lifted him up off the ground and held him over the urinal.

  • @zam023
    @zam023 6 років тому +2

    If you want to squat, use the squating toilet. That is why they have that no squating sign. If you squat on a sitting toilet, you might break the seat and get all your dirty feet on the seat.
    Outside the airport, the bidet toilet is normal. Same as the squating toilet. And it is as clean anywhere, unless you have Chinese tourist around.
    Were you at Narita airport? At Haneda (yes, Tokyo have two international airports) they don't have the sleeping booth. I wish they had those but instead they have sleeping benches under a full scale replica of a traditional Japanese wooden bridge.
    Haneda is the official Tokyo International Airport. It is just situated just on the outskirt of Tokyo. Only certain carriers land at Haneda. I'm from Malaysia, our AirAsia planes lands at Haneda while our MAS planes land at Narita.

    "I've checked in *all* the lady's rooms because...because I'm bored" HA HA HA HA HA !!!!
    Oh god, that has to be one of the funniest things you've said!!
    Those Japanese bathrooms look like the sets of the new "Star Trek" movies!! Probably don't have transporter rooms though. Although it being Japan it'll probably be just a couple years until they do 😉

    • @AMAETV
      @AMAETV  7 років тому

      Hahah yes it was true! I had to see if they were all the same or if new discoveries were to be made. Usually airport layovers don't have nearly as much Star Trek technology to keep you fascinated before your next flight. Especially in the bathrooms! 😁

    You won’t find paper towels or sometimes not even air dryers because Japanese carry a hand towel of their own for that purpose. While serving in Afghanistan, we had the same issue with people squatting on the toilets. They didn’t lift the seats and would slip and rip the seats off of the toilets. We had to also put up signs, not necessarily a cleanliness issue more of a safety and damage issue.

  • @ChasingTheOddShapedBall

    Narita Terminal 1 has regular toilets and squat toilets. Nothing fancy.
    Just pray that you don't get a squat toilet when you have gut problems.
    The reason they don't want you to squat on a regular toilet, is because you can break the toilet bowl - yes it's happened at my University in New Zealand and you're in the next cubicle.

    I'll be in Japan next month. I always enjoy visiting there. Those electronic bidets are super common in Korea. Pretty much every modern house has one. I think the urinal in the Lady's room is for moms with young sons. I don't know about America but it's super common for a mom to bring their son into the lady's room or a dad to bring their daughter into the men's room. Look forward to you trip in the Philippines, another country I really love! I hope Boracay is somewhere in the plans^^

    In Middle East and Asian countries right up to the the Far East, using water to finish after defecating is considered hygienically and bodily properly cleansed. A standard barrier of the height of civilization - not just to appear clean bodily outwards but internally as well. In Muslim households, one is potty trained from very young to use the appropriate hand. The right hand for eating and food consumption, the left hand for washing ones bottom. The two separate uses of the hand are ingrained. However, you clever westerners even after finger-licking your BBQ chicken-wings and fish 'n chips, you still need to wash your hands thoroughly however much you wipe your hands with paper and tissue to remove that residue smells and stickiness. Anal and genital areas are no different than washing your hands after relieving oneself of natural bodily function without which we would all fall ill, feel uncomfortable and most probably suffer from the uncontrollable impromptu bouts of fluctuation i.e farting. Defecation is simply getting rid of what you consumed earlier through your mouth!. This video is certainly the high-tech end of anal/genital area cleansing - something not even found in even in the most advanced western cities. Can one deduce from this that anal/genital cleansing is not part western culture in their lavatorial habits. Would I eat peanuts/crisps from the same sharing bowl? Hmmm!

    The little "urinals" are because the Japanese still practice very early pottying - from just past the newborn stage they hold their babies over a sink or in a public washroom a baby toilet so they use it instead of the toilet. Here in North America, we call it "elimination communication" in Japan you can get wonderful split pants for babies to help with this.

    • @AMAETV
      @AMAETV  6 років тому +1

      Wow! That's interesting. I've been looking into this 'elimination communication' thing now that I have a 9 month old.. The Japanese do have a lot of wisdom so if that is a standard over there maybe it's something worth fully exploring. Thanks for the insight!

    No paper towels because Japan does NOT want to waste "paper", so all japanese carry Handkerchiefs so they do not waste "paper". The Japanese also carry their own Chopsticks(hashi) so they do not waste "wood" on disposible chopsticks....

    WHAT THE BUYER IS AND SHOULD BE AFRAID OF AN ADD-ON BIDET?
    As the water stream comes from inside the toilet bowl, he is afraid that the water is contaminated by microbes. This fear is justified, no matter if the bidet is covered or not. The real danger is lying on the spout, hidden or not, where the water springs up. The other parts are indifferent.
    So, when other people as well are going to use the bidet, the only real defense is to leave 2-3 drops of a good disinfectant on the want spout. (That is not enough for bidets with warm water, for which things get more perplex).
    KO BIDET for you to be sure safe and comfortable.
