Both are paintings of the French revolutionary/nutcase Jean-Paul Marat after being murdered by Charlotte Corday; each one is by a different painter, with the one on Deathconsciousness being the better known of the two.
This might sound strange but this song makes me think of…someone being visited by the ghost of a loved one that took their own life. They express the pain that they were going through and how they felt like they had no other choice, because they just wanted to stop hurting. Now that they are in the beyond, they still feel the same but it’s compounded by the pain and suffering their passing has caused others and is now trapped in their own regret and self-loathing forever 😢

Try playing along to Nebraska by Springsteen, or listen to the movie cut of Moon River. Those songs are out of tune, but in-tune relative to themselves so it's fine. You're playing up what is simply a very good and well made spooky atmosphere and spooky guitar sound.
