- As featured on the 2019 musical biography "Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice", I Never Will Marry is live in a (high-quality enhanced) duet on The Johnny Cash TV Show in 1969 (1:15). The iconic singer later recorded The Carter Family song at The Sound Factory in Los Angeles for the Simple Dreams album in 1977. Linda Ronstadt was joined by Dolly Parton on the traditional ballad. "I Never Will Marry" became a Top 10 Country hit during the summer of 1978. In the introduction, Linda Ronstadt wanted to perform on-screen without panties. Why she didn't is explained.
Linda Ronstadt has had several high-profile romantic relationships in her lifetime (among them California Governor Jerry Brown, director George Lucas, actor Jim Carrey) and has two adopted children. But with this song in 1969, she predicted the future. She never has been married.
Lyrics
They say that love's a gentle thing
But it's only brought me pain
For the only man I ever loved
Has gone on the morning train
I never will marry
I'll be no man's wife
I expect to live single
All the days of my life
Well the train pulled out
The whistle blew
With a long and a lonesome moan
He's gone he's gone
Like the morning dew
And left me all alone
I never will marry
I'll be no man's wife
I expect to live single
All the days of my life
Songwriters: A.P. Carter
She was so beautiful and a beautiful voice.
She is so talented and beautiful.
Now, I've liked Miss June for years....BUT, I've LOVED Lady Linda for a LIFETIME!!
Atta Girl Ms. Ronstadt!!
Whew, she was something else. LOVE the clarity of her singing voice - always natural and unadorned. Very private, despite all the rumors that surrounded her.
Such a funny intro. Such a cupcake, such a talent...
that's a great bloomers story I hadn't heard before
This is from the Johnny Cash Show DVD set. Fantastic stuff.
Perfectly haunting voice for this song. Too late now but they should have recorded together.
Face and voice of an angel.
Wow how gorgeous is that woman.i had a crush like many when I was a kid.
I love the harmonies in this. I wish they had recorded something together. I love that she sang in so many genres. What an amazing voice.
That intro....LMFAO
Full love for you my sweet Linda Ronstadt
Bare-butted 😂 Way to go, Linda!
Lovely Linda,, such a beautiful voice ""I love her singing ""Blue Bayou"" ,Johnny and Linda did a good job on this song,,,,, Thank you. Call Vid !!!!!
to me one of the most beautiful songs!
I am far from convinced that she heeded June Carter's instruction.
I'm in love
Seriously amazing
This HD video is amazing! Thank you. But it would have been MUCH better had it started at 0:43.
No disrespect meant. But I’m just here for the awesome music. I’m not here for a history lesson.
I had no idea about the panties thing at the beginning
She never did marry...
They are singing the A.P. Carter lyrics, but the version in the description, is the one Linda recorded with the verses written by Dolly Parton. The traditional version sounds good, but it is too tragic for me to enjoy.
I'm just guessing, mind you, but most guys in those days, probably struggled through high school 70-74, with just the short dresses , much less all that commando stuff!
I struggled as a Junior High kid in those years to keep my concentration in class. Hitting puberty amidst girls wearing halter tops and either mini skirts or very tight jeans shorts was brutal. Girls were showing it off by 8th grade.
An absolute kitten!!
Bet she’s lying. Why would she tell a hateful story like that. Don’t trust this woman
Yes she was Lying because she was jealous 😉 it’s sad how Insecure haters can be...come to think about this did she look up her dress ? 😲😏
Lol! Maybe SHE had a secret crush on Linda.
Johnny's crush was obvious. 😁
Who is the woman telling the story? The clip itself indicates it is not June Carter.
Buzzkill.
@@paulperkins1615 She was the makeup woman.
Let's face it...Linda was a sweet piece o' ass.
(And she could sing too.)
LINDA: Being able to truly not give a ship is a double-edged sword, no? I saw you wearing a cross in some of your videos-- I hope and pray you find in Jesus a True and Forever Love.... One surpassing your standards. Amen. pg
Good point!
Why don't you just worry about yourself you judgmental azzhat.
I am tired of religious crack pots posting these stupid comments addressed to Linda. She doesn't give a #uck about you.
This story is a lie.
That intro....LMFAO
