They all look good since a good welder knows how to control and cover for the imperfections of an unruly electrode where as a beginner would show many more noticeable weaknesses in each brand...I worked with Lincoln excalibur rods of all sizes at work before retirement and was very happy with them since they were bought for us and now when doing projects on my own I go to Harbor freight for the Vulcan brand and really can't tell you any differences in the two.

Been welding since 1965, and I rank Hobart and Lincoln as the tops. Ran a lot of Murex in the '70s and it is also a very good rod.

The way I have stored my Low Hyd. rod for years now is with mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. I put a soft cloth around the electrode holder end of the rods to prevent puncturing the bag when the absorber sucks the bag down tight. I use oversize bags so I can reseal them and use them several times.

You can’t pick a weld by how it looks on the outside. You have to cut it open and etch it. Or, do a bend test on three samples to average your welds out. Not saying that ESAB isn’t good, it’s some of the best, but great looking welds aren’t always the best welds.

I'm concerned that the later rods had the advantage due to the rise in the metal temperature. It would be best to have separate tokens to try welding to force each one to work on cold metal.

IME with the esab vacpac vs the vulcan 7018s. The esab really outshines the vulcan when ran in every position but flat.

I subscribed because I like your format and subject matter. I am new to welding and need all the instruction I can get. I bought a little cheap Chinese inverter welder without knowing it's capabilities and limitations. To me 3/32 is a huge rod. I can only run a bead one spot at a time and only if I stop and knock the slag off. I've found it very helpful to see what real pro can do with limited equipment like this and find it very helpful to see amp meter compared to the welder settings. Gives me a better feel for what the equipment actually does.

D.C.E.P. tends to work good with a lot of rods.
I’ve run Lincoln 7018-AC that way.

none of those brands make their own rod. They all came from the same factory. They just print a different name on it when the brand orders it. You literally tested 6 identical rods 🤣🤣

That’s total bullshit. Some companies don’t make their own rods like Blue Demon and Vulcan. But ESAB makes all of their own weld rods, sticks and wire. Lincoln makes most of their own. Hobart makes their own. There are other companies such as Crown who make their own. Don’t talk when you know nothing.
