I have a couple of thoughts to share…
First, we have a supervisor at my work that is the worst and causes so much anxiety for employees when she’s on shift. When she’s not there work is so peaceful and flows properly. I compare that to Heaven without Satan!! When we aren’t constantly being tempted or having negative thoughts, life will be so much more comfortable!
Second, our mortal bodies are a drag with illnesses and/or handicaps of any sort. When we don’t have infirmities to deal with, I think (I HOPE) our attitudes and ambitions will be so much more joyful.
Last but not least, we really only have today as reality anyway, and even though we have goals and ambitions in our future, is 10 years away REALLY any different than 2000 years? That’s how I’ve come to deal with that fear because I’ve had it too!! Eternity is something we can’t see and can’t fathom! But in truth, can you fathom 20, 30, 40 years down the road?🤷🏼‍♀️ Just my 2 cents😊

This was a great conversation- thank you! In regards to sealing relationships, I sometimes think that the key thing is to ENTER into that covenant relationship with the Lord and your spouse, but the specific person with whom you enter into that covenant in this life (or through proxy sealings) may not be who you’re sealed to for eternity (though it certainly could be!). It’s more important that you make that covenant and “practice” that higher law now. I obviously don’t know why men can be sealed to more than one wife but not vice versa, though my thoughts tend to answer that for myself with the reasoning that there have been (and likely still are) more righteous women desiring to enter into that covenant relationship than men, and it gives more women that opportunity in this life (of course all will eventually have the opportunity). Even if they don’t end up sealed to that specific spouse in the eternities, it’s still a huge blessing and great training ground to be in that relationship with the Lord in this life (or the Spirit World I assume?) for however long until it all gets worked out. The Millennium is also a long time before we even get to judgement and kingdoms. I think the point may be to have the opportunity to enter into the new and everlasting covenant and receive those blessings and power to bless others (children, family, etc) in this life. Growing closer to the Lord and learning how to love others as God does is like our training wheels for what’s to come.

Good conversation. We are simply limited in our knowledge of the afterlife, but I'm grateful for what has been revealed and it's interesting to speculate about certain details I suppose. One aspect I have heard various opinions on is whether there is progression allowed from one Kingdom to another or if progression is only within the Celestial Kingdom? My understanding is the latter since it is a result after the final judgment. However, certainly progression and learning in the Spirit World takes place which allows those who have died without the Gospel to have the opportunity to accept it before the final judgment. Any thoughts on this?

God is Love, and I am in awe that Jesus would think I’m someone worth suffering unimaginable pain and death for. There are few other truths that have had such a profound effect on me. Jesus died for me not just so I could be saved, but so I could become! I know that my Savior loves me, and that a perfect love like that will always be just and fair, and I trust whatever judgements come perfectly! Have a great day, everyone!

I think we are being taught to do things in a righteous manner, and to improve incrementally as we go. An act that we participated in years ago that was negative, yet, if it were to be repeated later in life and had a positive outcome rather than negative, then we are learning to live in a celestial manner. Learning to control our emotions and how we treat each other is an important factor as well as how obedient we are to living the laws of the gospel, and being happy in service to others. I think that is what the Lord is looking for in each of us. I don’t think there is a tally of good deeds vs. bad deeds. Repentance is an active mechanism in helping us to improve and move toward becoming better each day. Some things we can overcome quickly, and other things can present a challenge where we really have to work hard at overcoming that fault, but eventually we’ll get there. The gospel of Jesus Christ is very positive.

When you are confirmed, you are confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In the eternities the current church will change to the Church of the Firstborn. The ordinances provided for eternal life can only be given by the authority restored to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints only, and no other.
We may not belong to a "church" in the eternities, but the sealing power seals us to God and His family. But to be sealed, and become part of the family of God and live eternal what we, as members and as prophets have described, do is live a life like God. Even in the Celestial Kingdom, there are degrees. Only the highest degree are we able to live an Eternal Life. Others will be ministering angles and such, those in the highest degree of the Celestial Kingdom live the life God lives, eternal life.

Thank you! This is the most annoying exmo position at the moment. They generally claim we teach “Mormons will be the only ones in Heaven.”
This makes absolutely no sense given our practices of work for the dead. Why would God command us to do work for every single human being if he already knows 0 out of 10 billion will be allowed in?
It was never about the tithing or word of wisdom or whatever other commandment. Life is about coming closer to God, which commandments can sometimes facilitate along with repentance.

I think the older I get, the more I internalize the idea that the whole point of our existence is not how well we do, or the "good points" we rack up, but WHO WE BECOME. We are struggling here and making mistakes in a place that is safe (thought the atonement of Christ) for us to mess up, and still be ok. It's the struggle and trying and messing up that teaches us how to be better people.

As a Christian, I am committed to the Hebraic understanding of anthropology. God created humans from dust by breathing into them. Death is simple the loss of breath or life force given by God and a return to the dust. Here, as Ecclesiastes, Psalms, Paul and Jesus trach, humans sleep unconsciously till the resurrection. Thus, there is no body soul dualism - Greek thinking - nor some intermediate place we're souls go till the resurrection. Death is soul sleep.

Good topic and comments. David I have to disagree with your statement that those who receive the Ordinances and Covenants vicariously are not members of Christ's church or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints.
If they accept these works, they are brought into the fold. Remember, after baptism, they are confirmed members of the church. They are given the priesthood in the church of Jesus Christ... I would think this qualifies them as full members of the Church before they enter the Celestial kingdom.
Not to say there will be far more individuals that throughout history never hear the gospel and then accept the gospel in the spirit world.
Just my thoughts on the subject.

Good discussion, guys. But you seem to be forgetting that the ordinance bestowing the gift of the Holy Ghost includes the confirmation of membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - whether done in this life or by proxy. So in a sense, by the end, all who inherit the celestial kingdom will belong to this church. (And even those who do not will have had their ordinances done.)

When a baby is blessed they are given the name that they will be known on the records of the church. Baptism is the first covenant and ordinance we make. And then we are a baptized member
In the Doctrine and Covenants… those that go to the Celestial kingdom include those that the Lord knows would have accepted the gospel if they had been introduced to it in this life.
The ordinances need to be performed in the flesh. The millennium is a time the vast majority of these will be done.

One of the biggest reasons the lds church does not appeal to me on a spiritual level is simply is that unlimitly there is no place in the Celestial Kingdom for Same-gender couples, a eternity without my husband would be hell indeed. Why would I want to be part of any organization that believes my opinions are remain alone in this life, if I'm faithful God will make me stright and i would spend eternity in a eternil marriage with a woman I didn't love, or live my life with my beloved Same-gender partner and in the next life be separated from him because we did not fall in line with the churches teaching on homosexuality. My God is so much bigger then that, so much more compassionate and merciful.

I think we forget that we do need to be members of the church to enter the celestial kingdom. Even the proxy confirmation for the deceased in the temple uses the phrase "confirm you a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints."
Everyone who ever lived gets that choice but yes only members of the church will inherit the celestial kingdom.

Power! This is the problem word! Power seems to mean control over a person. Responsibility or stewardship is a better word. Power has come to mean abusive.
That kind of “power(abusive)” is not part of the priesthood! Which is why it shouldn’t be a part of the church. That’s not what Christ teaches!
In the workforce world it’s a whole other ballgame. Men and women are not treated equally but especially in pay status. Which causes problems!
Then there’s the other side …. If I walk into a bank and say I identify as a millionaire, are they going to give me the million dollars??

    • @jaredcarcamo8515
      @jaredcarcamo8515 3 місяці тому

The purpose of becoming a member now is to give us the choice to maximize our happiness. Sure, we could do other things now and repent later, but that brings into mind this question: would you rather live a life where you had regrets that were later made up for, or a life where you had the least amount of regrets possible? The choice is yours. Tapping into a relationship with God and said relationship being strengthened through covenants now, in my eyes, is better than a life without God, where I missed out on the joy I could have had, but would start up that joyous experience later down the line. I maximize my happiness by taking advantage now, and that decision in turn increases even more my happiness, because I chose God now, not later.

Yes there will be those who are not menders and who will need to be taught the gospel and decide if they accept the it in the next life and they will start to learn things that we have already had the opportunity to learn as members.

I think the way it was expressed, at least in my head, comes out to this: as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, we proclaim to teach the Restored true gospel and learn and live by what had been revealed. The proxy ordinances that we do for those that have passed on give them the "choice" to accept his Gospel. But as they are not of morality anymore, they are not part of the Church on earth but have the opportunity to be numbered of Christ. So technically non member of the Church, but still taught and accepted all that has been revealed. If this makes sense or needs correction let me know.

Fun fact: a female can actually be sealed to two men under the following scenario -
    (1) she’s sealed to husband A, but A dies. (2) she marries husband B for time only and has children with B. (3) She and B die. (4) her & B’s children can then have their parents sealed together as husband & wife.
Obviously this doesn’t mean she’ll STAY sealed to both, but she’ll get to choose.

First, on how it will "look/be", I have an audio book called "I Saw Heaven" by Lawrence E. Tooley. Listen to his description of it. That'll suffice, I think.
    Second...the BIG picture.
Mainstream Christianity teaches a very linear, binary system. You're in or you're out. You made the cut or you didn't. Fear of NOT making the cut is why so many have embraced watered-down versions to make things easier for themselves. They see God and Heaven as rewards for being right in this life.
That's not what it is AT ALL. It's not about qualifying for rewards. It's not about the privilege of worshipping God forever.
It really is about US and that's difficult to understand if you take the "God made us from nothing, here we are, hope you figure it out" approach.
We CHOSE to be here. We CHOSE to learn. The kingdoms aren't about qualifying, they're about progressing. It's not that a checklist gets you in or keeps you out. It's Spider-Man: with great power comes great responsibility. We get the responsibility we're willing to take on, so we get what comes with that. Lower kingdoms aren't punishment; they're just options.
I'm reading a book (far from finished) called "Odds Are You're Going To Be Exalted". Perspective. We do what we can here to learn and grow and to help others. God has a plan. It'll work out. It's why we don't teach the "or else" theology like other churches. We seek to grow, not to simply escape punishment. HUGE difference.

Envisioning a wonderful afterlife is a pleasant pastime and leads to peace-of-mind, but there is actually no verifiable physical evidence that any sort of afterlife even exists. A belief in an afterlife of any sort is purely a matter of faith, and is the product of wishful thinking.

    • @legomaster9190
      @legomaster9190 3 місяці тому

Many things during this life are just that. Based on a belief or faith. Others are factual and can be proven via scientific methods etc. In my opinion, we need both. Can't say with certainty but I think the geniuses and scientists of the past (and why not present, too) had to believe first that their discoveries, inventions and so on, could work or be true. True, they reinforced their discoveries with science but I think there was a great amount of faith too.
Another thing that I can think of, are the many stories we have about people who have died and come back. Many (if not all, can't be certain, I've only heard and read a handful myself) tell about some sort of existence after they died. Now, whether it was only in their heads or it was real, who really knows? That's when faith enters the picture.
Lastly, I personally think that all this (the world, life here and all we do etc.) would be kinda pointless if it all ended upon death. I know that's not technically an argument (nor are any of the other ones I've presented, I guess). They are just some things I've pondered upon, as a pastime...
