    This was my first car in 1977 I was 19.. It was a 1969 , same exact color. Rusted floor boards in the very back. All electric. And eventually a short caused it's demise. I paid $100 and drove it with joy with all my friends piled in with tons of room. Great memory.

    my father bought 4 new Sport Suburbans over the years from Holley Motor Company in Tyler, Texas - 1968, 1970, 1972 and the Gran Fury Sport Suburban introduced in 1975 They were all great wagons my mother carted my friends and brothers and me to Cub Scouts, flag football practice etc. we hung out the back window and somehow we all survived! All the neighborhood moms drove station wagons during this time - much more stylish than minivans would ever be!.. in a plethora of colors too .. Sunfire Yellow, Coral Turquoise Metallic, Sherwood Green Metallic, Aztec Gold Metallic to name but a few.

      japanjack62 wow!.. incredible.. my dad's '70 Sport Suburban was Sand Pebble Beige too and the '72 was Sunfire Yellow with black interior (minus the Brougham Package which I distinctly remember) the best options were tailgate assist handles and dual air conditioning.

    If I could only go back to that era for a month, it would be heaven. Some of the shots done along the country highway make me wonder if they didn't shoot this up here in Oregon. Most of the time, they shot scenes in L.A. In those days, Oregon was mostly rural so it wouldn't surprise me if this was shot somewhere up here. Another wonderful post. Thanks, Osborn!

    I had a 1969 dodge Monaco wagon with the 383 CID engine and 4 barrel carburetor and dual exhaust. It was set up with overload shocks and a extra leaf spring in the rear end. I got it used in 1975 from the branch office of the state newspaper and used it to haul newspapers from the printing plant to my hometown. That old wagon could haul all that and still outrun my best friends Mustang. When I went in the Air Force in 1977 I parked the car at my dads home and a drunk driver plowed into that car when my mom parked it on street in front of their home. The car got pushed back 100 feet and thankfully no one was driving or on the sidewalk at the time of the crash. Insurance paid for that old wagon. I missed that old car as it did not appear fast but it could haul the bacon loaded or unloaded.

      I don't get the point of stating your age, but these cars aren't really so common any more. You'd be better off with an eighties Colony Park. Same length, also has the two way tailgate, just isn't as stylish.

    i was wondering where I've seen the red heart that was on the key chain at the end of the commercial. It was used on the ad promoting Petula Clark's 1968 television special in which Plymouth sponsored.

    • @OsbornTramain
      @OsbornTramain  6 років тому +4

      It was not just on the Petula Clark commercials, Plymouth used this logo or symbol for about 3 to 4 years, 1967 thru 1970 as far as I can tell. I have never quite understood the origins or meaning of it? I did think at the time, that it looked very much like the Catholic Organization, "Marriage Encounter" groups logo, my parents had a decal on their car for a while with that symbol...it's similar but not the same.

      I believe that was the special around which she had a battle-of-wills with Chrysler, which was afraid of offending customers in the deep South, over her duet with Harry Bellafonte. She held her ground and the duet was part of the show.

      I found out that the heart with the hook is part of a highly successful ad campaign that started in 1967. The Plymouth is out to win you over this year, campaign. I think win you over suggests like a man wooing a woman or vice versa.

    These cars could sell for $50.000.00 in Canada and since Canada has lots of gasoline should not be a problem filling up the 40 gallon gas tank

    • @quill444

      23 gal, and tank is not centered, but sits along left-rear quarter panel, so these cars were a target for gas theft, since they tend to lean left with a full tank! - j q t -

    Looks similar to the 1969 Plymouth Belvedere Station used in the 1st 2 seasons of the Brady Bunch

    • @OsbornTramain
      @OsbornTramain  9 років тому +8

      Robert angermiller This is a C body, the Fury, The Brady Bunch used the intermediate sized car, Satellite a B body. There is similar styling explained by the fact that the Chrysler Corporate theme of "Fuselage" was used on both cars, but they are actually quite different cars and very different in size as well.

    • @NESherv
      @NESherv 4 роки тому +5

      @@OsbornTramain I find it ironic that despite the Brady family having six kids (eight people including the parents, and nine including Alice), they didn't opt for the full-size wagons.

    • @groovy1937
      @groovy1937 Рік тому +1

      @@NESherv I always found that odd too! I would have loved it if Carol would have got a Chrysler Town and Country. They were getting a new Chevy Caprice convertible every year but had that one Satellite wagon for years. I surprised Chevy didn't supply a Caprice Estate at some point. They needed a new wagon for 1974 season - a Buick a Estate would have been awesome to see them get.

    • @scottlevine7646
      @scottlevine7646 9 місяців тому

      Actually, the Caprice convertible was only in the final season, and was in fact the only non-Mopar car during the entire series. I’ll
      Defer to others about Carol’s wagons. Mike had several different Chrysler convertibles until ‘74.
