You can really see the stark difference in attitude between the two pairs here. The Japanese unrelenting in their defense, both players trying their best to support each other, sometimes even going way into the area of their partner to cover them after a shot left them off-balance. Their play is very disciplined, never relaxing or slacking in both their attack and defense postures even when they are firmly in control of the rally/game. Meanwhile the body language of the minions tells you that there is discord between the two players. The frustrated look on Gideon's face each time he makes a mistake, a lot of times because he can't put the shuttle down while smashing many times from the rear, all the while Kevin is just chilling at the front waiting for Christmas. It also seems like Gideon may have been injured (feel free to fact-check me if I'm mistaken here) during this match as it really doesn't seem as though he is powering through his smashes. It really felt as if each indo player was playing solo with Gideon only playing back and Kevin only staying front for the most part (yes I know it's their preferred positions) but when Gideon has been smashing 7-10 times consecutively at the rear almost every other rally, Kevin has to help him at some point, and he barely did so. The two players felt like they were in a downward spiral of frustration both at their own performances and at each other, especially that 2nd game. The time when they got a lucky shot, like early part of 2nd game where Kevin gets a lucky shot on the tape, he doesn't even apologize out of courtesy, but instead just stares down the Japanese pair, displaying poor sportsmanship (as he often does).
I agree with all your point. But Kevin at the back is not good cz his smash isnt so powerful, while Gideon at front is not good as well cz he’s slow. After their peak, many MD already bait them to play in this formation and win
@@AvantespadaThe are all pro player with heavy traing . Of course gideon also can play at the net even not as good as kevin . But kevin has to step back to the back court helping gideon to attack with the japanese crazy defend gideon almost die smashing at least 5 times per rally .
@@Avantespada Kevin is actually decent at the back because of his variation. If you rewatch some of the match you'll see a lot of indo's opportunities are from Kevin near the back unexpectedly dropping or cutting the ball instead of smashing everything like Gideon did. I'm not saying Gideon is bad though, he's INSANE when he's playing good, he just looked off this match. He made a lot of unforced errors and you can see he got frustrated at himself a lot. It was simply a bad game from the minions and an incredible game from the japanese.
It's very incredible if you look at that year. Gideon and Kevin was at their peak, getting so many gold medals, yet they only scored 3 points in the second round.
ga sampe hati liat match ini 😢 tp harus diakuin, endo watanabe disini solid bgt. ditambah, cuma endo watanabe yg bisa bikin skor 21-3 pdhl itu masa prime nya minion, rispek. tp sayang bgt, kita udh ga bisa liat mereka tanding lg di lapangan 😔
The Japanese pair lessened fighting for the front play in the second set since they found it hard to compete against Sanjaya. That tactic gave them advantage.
I read somewhere that IBF had slown down the speed of shuttlecock. The minions has no more advantage out of their speed game. It's like the ITTF enlarging the size of the table tennis ball from 38 to 40+ that decreases the effect of the back spin so chopper had lost their advantage over the spinner. You would rarely see pure chopper defender today as we seen in the 80ies.
The quality of the Japanese defending almost defies belief at times. They were able to defend and then counter attack peak Minions who were in full attack mode from half way down the court. Absolutely no one should be capable of defending that, let along finding a winner in the same rally.
i will remember this match all my life
Watanabe has such a good awareness of where the gaps are.
Any video with Endo in it I will surely be there. My favourite MD player of all time.
Who else miss Endo on court 😢😢
Endo, the man who came back from retirement to have some fun with the juniors. thats what happens when a man truly loves a sport.

Endo has a cool personality.... He's a professional warrior in badminton world... His cool and calmness is similar to a Japanese Samurai❤.....

This japanese pair exists just to humble the minions and nothing else 😂
This Japanese pair couldn't handle the might of Goh/Tan & Ahsan/Setiawan whatsoever.

How do badminton players have that kind of reflex?
Kevin and Marcos reunited?
no. Marcus retired. This video is from a long time ago
@4:28, the Indonesian player was too polite to even give the shuttle to Yuta. The smash should have went to Endo's side for better chance of scoring!
