Just started watching this anime. I fucking love it because of two main reasons: 1, the characters are human (even sadistic mass-murderers who kill the main heroes are allowed to have friends and feelings), and the characters act with common sense that we would use - rather than acting the way we'd expect. The main character is the typical hero if the typical hero was actually done well. He's a typical fish-out-of-water knuckle-headed hero. But he does things that make sense. He'll kill a man he respects because they're enemies. He'll try to convince an evil woman who loves him to join his side without revealing his true motives like an idiot. He'll run from a fight he knows he can't win. He won't rush into a situation like a fool. He'll let his friends die for the good of the mission. He follows his orders given even if he doesn't like them because he knows he's still green and they know more than him. He's got good morals but doesn't let them get in the way of the bigger picture. He doesn't waste time lecturing people about hope. He follows his superiors instructions and advice because he knows his own faults. He learns. He grows stronger. And we can actually understand why other characters (even the main villain) admire him so much, unlike others who just get that treatment because of their Main Character status (*cough* Kirito *cough*).
Now THAT is so fucking refreshing!!!
