i was gonna go to bed
but whitney said no ma’am
"if I was on my phone id watch two hours of buzzfeed unsolved instead" ive been personally attacked
It's not just you. The older I get the more I can't read more than 50 pages at a time. I'm gonna be 26. 6 years ago I used to be able to bust out a five hundred page book in a day
Me too.
I'm a simple girl. I get a Whitney notification, I click, I enjoy.
I'm sure you hear this all the time, but you are genuinely so funny? and so well spoken at the same time? but this was a rly great video! ^^ i do feel like we (millenials? i guess?) tend to have a hard time focusing on one thing for too long, maybe bc of technology and how much information we receive in one sec through social medias? like even as i was watching your video about being off your phone i couldn't stop myself from playing a game on my phone, and it's not like i was bored by your video, on the contrary!! anyway, i'm rly glad you're back and merry christmas \o/
"Oh I just saw a spoiler"
Sis me everytime I check the page number.
The zoom to your diploma killed me.
So glad I'm not the only one who reads aloud to "my pets."
No but it really does help me get into a story when I'm struggling to focus. You did awesome! It's so hard to not be distracted by devices.
Reading out loud helps me concentrate so much more! Sometimes if I'm not understanding whats going on, I'll start over and read it outloud to myself.
i was crying but you posted so imma take a break now
Hey, I hope you feel better soon and everything works out. Remember to take care of yourself. 🌻💛
„As the French say..... Guten Tag.”
I’m so triggered 😂😂😂
I subscribed after you said something along the lines of, "I can't stay focused for more than 50 pages."
Girl, the adulthood is stroooong with this one.
ugghhhhhhhhhhh i want to be small and powerful again to read more than 3 pages without yawning
"The big reason I'm not productive is because momma needs a nap." This is a mood, story of my life.
I loved this video!!!!! Also I borrowed The Poet X last year and I really want my own to annotate/mark my favourites, and you just reminded me how badly I want to do that
I really need to do one of these. My phone is my anxiety crutch, I always have it on me and I've gotten to the point of being on social media wayyyy too often. I feel like I'm missing so many hours of productivity and reading (well, I know I am).
when Whitney said "I think while I eat I'll just stare sadly into my plate" I felt that
*This notification popped up and I choked on my tea*
"i don't even know his name but what are we?" RELATABLE
As the french say
*Guten Tag*
Do they?
DO THEY?!?!?
So im french now huh
AMAZING
@@boopsieeee exactly my thought hahah
You're seriously the only UA-camr who I just wish I could hang out with irl. Girl, you're amazing. And that shirt at the start of your video is super cute on you!
Also side note: I strongly believe your current intro slide is perfection
I really appreciated your honesty in this video. You are also not alone. I think it ebbs and flows for me whether or not I can sit through a long session reading or not. As long as you're reading at all, it's good enough!
So, I related hard to the part where you talked about wishing you could read more in one sitting. I have always been someone who reads in tiny spurts -- I've never finished a book in one sitting that isn't a graphic novel, and I typically only read 50 pages at a time, give or take. I find myself getting caught up in the comparison game which is a TRIPPITY TRAP. This video made me so happy and I adore you ❤️
i was literally looking for something to watch next when i got the notification you uploaded! yaaas hunnnnnnyyyyy
I love this because it's so realistic. We always see these booktubers finish 2 books per day and that's not realistic for most people. We have lives and kids and other hobbies (not saying booktubers don't have other hobbies but hobbies that aren't as prioritized as reading). So yes, thank you for this vlog!
My fucking GODDESS is back!!!!! It's so good to see you babe!!!
like FINALLY some good fucking food.
700 pages is so wild especially since they were all such diverse books in the first place. I stan.
I also love you and can't wait to see what else you've gotten hidden in the hiatus archivesssss
Part of it is definitely social media, part of it is having adult responsibilities and worries distracting us. Part of it is also probably being more picky about what we read. (When I was a kid I could read pretty much anything, regardless of quality.) I honestly count it as a win when I read 50 pages in a day, let alone a sitting lol! But not being able to check your phone really helps! I know I tend to read more during the summer because I spend a lot of days at a pool or the beach, and I can’t really check my phone. The rest of the year I really have to discipline myself! And occasionally I will find a book that I really can’t put down and I read like 200 pages in a day.
The irony of this is here I am watching this instead of reading my book that I opened up to read and then didn't actually read at all
"i don't even know his name... but what are we??" lol mood
i related to this so much!!!!!!!!!!!!! i wish i could read faster--read more--all the time, and i feel almost guilty that i don't read as much as other people?? there are so many books on my tbr that i've been wanting to read, and i want to read everything as fast as i can so i'll be up-to-date in the booktube/goodreads world, but i don't have the energy?? i try to push myself into reading more to the point where i'm not really absorbing what i'm reading? and then i end up in a reading slump because i feel so pressured and overwhelmed by my personal goals(?). the struggle is real, my friends.
i'm a simple gal
i see a whittynovels video
i click
Merry Christmas to you too, Whitney. I am sooooooooooo glad you're back. You have no idea.
Whitney!! Jane Eyre is one of the best books I've ever read and it's definitely worth reading xxx
No technology. *listens to audiobook*
Jane Eyre is a tough first third. Once you get past her schooling it gets a lot better. - This is really interesting and I'm glad you got some reading done!
19:10 I do this!!! Especially with classic plays by Shakespeare or Wilde,, also makes it waaay more fun
"you all look like shrimps" xDDD I LOVE THOSE KITTIESSSSS
That yodel yawn makes me laugh every time
sitting and watching buzzfeed unsolved instead of reading is my mood 24/7
Wow I love the idea of reading classics aloud. That's a great idea
I literally watched the first 36 seconds of this video and immediately subscribed👀...
THE CATS CUDDLING!! that's me and this video
I never loved a book tuber so much in my entire life and she doesn't even know I exist
so glad ur back xxxx
relatable af. I read the entire Vampire's Assistant series in 6 hours.
I normally dont watch videos over 20 minutes ahah but your vlogs are alwaysss entertaining so I'm glad they're this long🥰
I read classics aloud to myself as well! It makes it easier for me to understand the older English.
Also, I completely understand the want to put down the phone and read. I could read so much more if I didn’t mess around on my phone.
Omg!! I read the first few pages loud too to make sure I really get into the reading mode. 🤣😅
Ufffff that screen time is relatable 😭😩 what a great video ❤️❤️
I love this video concept btw! About a month ago I noticed I spent a minimum of 3 hours a day on just Instagram, so I deleted my account. Now I read EVERY day!
The caption on the thumbnail and that intro slide got me from the beginning 😂😂 New sub
I'm really old comparatively and I can testify that, unlike my head of jet black hair without a single gray strand, the ability to read copious amounts of reading matter can return at the most amazing points in a long life line!
"I would watch 2 hours of Buzzfeed Unsolved instead"
Me: *closes down the 6-hour long marathon video I use to fall asleep to*
Whitney Whitney Whitney I'm at 6:08 of the video and you just mentioned your journal and that reminds me, WE NEED ANOTHER JOURNALING VIDEO PLEASE
Jane Eyre has literally been on my currently-reading shelf for months. I started reading it last November!
This is the kind of tech break I also need...
Its not a tech break she used her phone and is recording this how dense are you people
this is my first video i've seen of u and i'm 2 minutes in and i love u already
First of all, yay, a new vlog 🙌🏼
Second, I’m the same now! I cannot read for hours at a time anymore!
Me: I'm gonna sit down and read this entire book in one sitting
ADHD: no, no you're not
Me: yeah you right
BLESSED!!!!!
Love your video! If you ever get the chance read Elizabeth Acevedo's other book With the Fire on High. It's really good. I recommend it as an audiobook because the author reads it herself and her voice is to die for.
I’ve been wanting to do this!!! You are my inspo- I seriously feel so attached to my phone, I need to unplug.
That little peace sign stunt made me laugh. Thank you.
my screen time is usually around 14 hours....(although some of that is due to me just leaving my open instead of locking it) i really miss reading before i had an iPhone and had an attention span longer than 30 seconds
Really liked this video! I can so relate to the amount of books I read, even all through college and now as an adult I have a very hard time to even read 4 in a month. And yes, my phone is a big obstacle in doing that.
One thing through. You do realize that the French say bonjour, right. The Germans say guten tag. And I'm sorry if this is a book/movie joke I'm not aware of.😳
ok toontown is actually an amazing game not gonna lie, im 19 and i still love playing it and ive played it since i was like 9 and it doesnt get old
I'm 2 minutes in and this is already great.
LOL I'm a total grandma now and fall asleep 10 pages in. Idk what happened but I start dozing off at 8pm now. I can't do audio books at alllll whether I'm driving or at home, it has to be a true crime podcast or I can't pay attention. I need to participate in one of these to get some reading done lol.
im the exact same way with my reading habits. when i was like 11-17 i could (and very often did) read a book in one sitting, regardless of length. id stay up into the middle of the night just because i wanted to finish my book. im 24 now and since high school (but i really suspect since the advent of smartphones) my attention span is garbage. my limit for when i need to take a break to fuck around on my phone or watch a youtube video is also about fifty pages, maybe one hundred if i push myself. i still love reading as much as i always have, but i now have to like... force myself to do it and schedule time in. its something im really not happy about tbh, i wish i could go back to when i devoured books without even thinking about it. my book count is still high and i can definitely make myself read a lot, but i wish it wasnt such a chore :/
I am also currently breaking the phone addiction (the struggle is REAL) and I found the Forest app to be hugely helpful.
Thank you for your sacrifice 🙌
I can’t listen to audiobooks when I drive either!! I really want to read Becoming. I want to try doing this!! Good job 😁
I read my school textbooks out loud and try to stay focused and it actually seems to work!
I just found your Chanel and wow I love your content!!
This is such an interesting concept to see, because I'm a religious Jewish person I do this every week on Sabbath (Friday night to Saturday night)
I don't usually read more than 1, maybe 1½ books (but that's because I sleep most of the time 😂) So it's cool to see how people who aren't used to it react
I’m definitely the same! I get distracted super easily and my attention span isn’t great 😂
It's sort of hilarious that I almost never read aloud, but the last book I remember reading out loud was Jane Eyre. It's just that kind of book I guess lol.
I live in a country where there is no shipping for books so I can't buy anything which is why I have to read everything as epub books and that is hard considering the amount of distraction that I have on my mobile . I probably need to delete everything so that I can read the books that I have. How do you even use Twitter to spend so much time on it I had it since 2015 and I have no idea how to use it.
The cats also want to read, maybe they will help you to pick your TBR
Also relatable (yep watching again) reading a shampoo bottle because I forgot my gameboy hahaha so me as a child! 😂😂
i mean when we were kids the books were like 200 pages in double spaced 12pt so that’s maybe why I read so much then lmao
ayeee toontown rewritten
Love your content whittynovels 📚📚📚😃
1 I have around the same screen time usage 🙈 2 pets really are so expensive my dog just went this week for tummy issues and they threw a whole bunch of meds/food etc at us $300 later he was fine the next day 😂 3 I’ve missed your vlogs way too much!!!!
Why are there this many pages, is how I feel about all classics! :)
Great video!
Amazing video I am going to try this. 😀
QUEEN
2:14 to 2:18 literally watched that like 50 times 😂😂😂 IM SO HAPPY YOU POSTED AND ALSO THAT YOU CAME BACK FROM YOUR HIATUS ! I hope you are feeling well and that your hiatus helped you ! I missed you but health first, n'amsayin ?
I did not expect the video to be this entertaining (and I'm 2 only minutes in wahahah)
keep it up!
I’m lactose intolerant too 😂😂
funny how i'm watching this video instead of reading
I would never want to know my average screen time because I always tell myself oh you read 50 pages, yay, now go to Instagram! 😅
Just starting the the video but this was filmed on my birthday so it's a good start
Me: Okay, I will put my phone away and just read
Me five minutes later: Okay, but I do got a check if I got an e-mail from Uni, you know.
I applaud you my dear
Every time I yawn I now hear your yodel sound effect.
This could be me but,,, I’m still too addicted to my phone🤠🤠
*Me:* I'm not gonna read King of Scars leave Nikolai alone
*Whitney:* So this is like the Lady Midnight of the Grishaverse
*Me:* I can't wait to read King of Scars
Your cats so cute
I really am applauding you for accomplishing this task of staying of devices. Also check out jane steele (it's a retelling of jane eyre!)
I still haven’t even read the grisha verse 🙃
Downloaded a phone screen time tracker about a week ago...it's a sad time lol
the content that i have been missing (': hope all is well!
No spoliers, Miss Knowledgeable!!
