  • While I've looked at the distinct teachings of Protestantism, the next logical question to ask would be: Why not become Catholic? In this episode, I begin to answer that question. I start by going through the issues that caused the Great Schism between the Eastern and Western churches, the newfound power of the papacy, and other developments than followed the schism.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments below. Thanks for listening and God bless!

Hi Thank you for the info on Orthodoxy, I am a Protestant.
But I have always had issues with faith, and was an Atheist for a long time.
I reconnected a few years back but I could never put my finger on exactly what's off!
I started looking into Catholicism and your content popped up!
And it makes a lot of sense! Thank you.

Glory to God! I have a couple of friends (one agnostic, one atheist) who grew up and eventually became disaffected with low-church American evangelicalism. Once they encountered Orthodoxy, things began to click for them and they really respect it. While neither has made the move quite yet, my agnostic friend is still very interested in Orthodoxy. God bless you on your journey!

@@untoagesWow 👌 👏 you really are fooled by Satan....
There is no " nomenclature " One Holy Catholic & Apostolic Church that was part of a split.
That is the 4 marks of.the true church.
Also there never is & never was ANY Church called RCC ..
That is a created demented figment of the imagination of the schismatic heretic Henry the 8th 500 years + after the 1st millennium.
So even before your false blasphemous heretical childish video which mocks God; you can't even get the the numbers or names right.
Thou art Peter & upon this rock I will build my church ....."
Catholic church goes back to St.Peter & the false man made eastern ( non orthodox ) schismatic heretical church goes back to photius.
You know the guy who @$$ kissing the Emperor goes from a regular Joe to a deacon, priest, bishop, patriarch , ( false ) Pope ...in a week .
Good luck with your man made satanic church....
      Christ said Peter ( Jerusalem- Antioch- Rome 1st century ) & not Photius ( Constantinople 10th century ) ...
Lol 😂 even a 1st year history / theology child would understand this.

I have many Catholic friends and all they can EVER use to "dunk on me" with against Orthodoxy is mUh PoPe, YoU'rE sChIsMaTiC, etc. Its all so tiresome. Nothing matters to them except utter submission to Papa Francis.

It is really sad. Especially when we bring attention to the many plethora of issues that arise AS A RESULT of the papacy. We can pray for them at least!

Here are some of the authorities who teach the filioque, already before St Augustine - Jesus Christ (John 16), Origen, Tertullian, St Gregory the Illuminator, Marius Victorinus, St Hilary, St Epiphanius, St Athanasius, Didymus the Blind, St Ambrose, the Capadoccians, St Cyril of Alexandria - completely obliterating your false claim that the filioque is "an innovation, one that finds its roots in the speculative theology of St Augustine".
All the other claims in the video are similarly without merit and could be refuted one by one. Just to mention a couple of them, against your claim that an ecumenical council could not be called without the emperor, is the Lateran Synod of 649. This synod, which condemned monothelitism 30 years before the Third Council of Constantinople, was called in direct opposition to the emperor and without the agreement of several eastern churches, and yet the fathers of this council, which included great saints such as Pope Martin I and Maximus the Confessor, clearly considered the Lateran Synod to be dogmatic, and that everyone was bound to receive its teaching under the pain of anathema.
You also seem to think that papal infallibility is a post-schism development in the Catholic Church, when in fact it was believed and taught by several pre-schism saints, including those from the east, and especially the Roman Popes. Most importantly, it is taught in the letter of Pope Agatho, which was accepted by the Third Council of Constantinople in 681.

I think you’re grossly misrepresenting those sources on the Filioque. And it seems desperate to me that you need to appeal to Origen, whose teachings were anathematized, to make your case. If the Filioque were “so obviously correct,” why did it get ADDED to the Creed later? You’d think the several Ecumenical Councils that hashed out the Creed would’ve gotten it figured out. It’s clearly a western innovation.
Last I checked, the Lateran Synod wasn’t an Ecumenical Council.
No one prior to the schism believed in Vatican I papal infallibility. Are you serious?
The bottom line here is, these things can’t just be hand-waved away like you’re trying to do. Innovations have implications.

@@untoages The Filioque was added in Spain in the 500s to combate Arianism among the Visigoth occupiers of Spain. It was then adopted by the Frankish rulers who influenced the Latin Church gradually over the next few centuries by replacing non-filioque clergy with their own, including the Pope. A prime example of this was Cardinal Humbert (of Germanic background) who had the adacity to excommunicate the eastern part of the Church because he was kept waiting for an audiancdev withy the Patriarch. The Patriarch likely was snubbing the Cardinal, but you don't excommunicate an entire portion of the Church because your ego was hurt. You are absolutely correct in stating that the ego and hubris of the Latins ultimately led to the schism.
