I wrote a paper on Elliott Smith in highschool and he had a really bad childhood. From what I remember his step dad beat him nearly every day starting at age 3 and may have sexually abused him too. His mother basically chose his step dad over him too and denied most of the abuse when he confronted her. He moved in with his real dad when he was a teenager and got into hard drugs. Great reaction✌️
Wow.. similar story to my own.. unfortunately.. maybe connecting with others is really a spiritual thing included... 🤔 1 love..thanks..stay for me :) any requests.??
The song is mostly about addiction/alcoholism from what I understand. The vice or drink is singing to the individual in the story, tempting them to forget the stress of life and sink deeper into the cycle of addiction
And the singer very much struggled with these things, one of the reasons I admire him is because a lot of his songwriting is like this deeply personal exposition of himself, really compelling and beautiful stuff. And it's rare to see such genuine honest expression in art.
Out of all of his catalog and all the albums, just his poetry his passion. His heart, and love and just his whole being always resonates within me.. figure 8 and either/or my favorite album's. I love your channel and you are such a sweet dude, music is life & love that your sharing
Elliott Smith is a mood. His guitar playing is top-tier. His songs are very catchy. But, his lyrics are profoundly sad. Which isn't a bad thing, but it is a mood. I had to take a break from Elliott after I bought my first album of his...I was playing it too much. But, I love him. If you've seen the movie Good Will Hunting, then you've heard 5 or 6 of his songs.
So, the interesting thing is to listen to the song BUT keep in mind the singer/narrator is “alcohol” speaking to an alcoholic. Elliott had many demons and alcohol was just one. Keep in mind the one part “Drink up one more time, and I'll make you mine, Keep you apart, deep in my heart, Separate from the rest, where I like you the best”. Alcohol addiction keeps you away from the people you love. As an addict, this resonates with me. 💔
thank you for sharing your story, i really loved this reaction. i highly recommend you listen to elliott smith more, his music saved my life. he's the sole reason i decided to start playing guitar 3 years ago and now it's become my passion. please listen to "true love" and "stickman" and "little one", those are my top three favorite elliott smith songs. i hope you're doing well yourself
Thank you... and yeah this past year has made me wanna open up more.. because I learned that even my stories helped some of yall too.. its amazing and I enjoy it.. 1 love..stay tuned
I let everything take its natural way, all I can say is.. when I feel... I feel.. and I'm not holding it back! Unfortunately I relate and yeah... Thanks.. 1 love.. hope you stay around for more...
I really liked that and want to hear more plus I can relate to it in some ways....I'm still here 😊 and always enjoy your content..we'll not everything..lol....but you have a loyal follower here..1 love 😁
Elliott Smith's Tomorrow, Tomorrow should be up there with Little Wing, Blackbird, Landslide, etc, etc... how noone talks about that song is beyond me.
good reaction brother, i’d recommend continuing the either/or album road, it’s generally liked by most. then continue into his other albums which i prefer more
Dude, he was an alcoholic. He feels bad about all people let down because he was too drunk or hung over. He feels trapped by his constant cravings for alcohol. "Behind bars"
Elliott has so many great/heartbreaking songs you could probably do another 20 songs of his. Not sure if you did any research on Elliott, but he did commit suicide in 2003
no disrespect meant, but if i had been your grandma i would have been proud af when i saw that you and your sisters gave some of your christmas gifts to the neighbors who had less, even though yall were struggling too. i can empathize with her being frustrated by it though because, like you said, you didn’t know y’all were poor. that means grandma went to lengths and effort to make it so.
The song is alcohol speaking to an alcoholic. I know it pretty personally. I just didn't get to the point where I stabbed myself in the heart to death like he did
@@JynxFree Yeah dude unfortunately "Smith had stabbed himself in the heart. Despite emergency surgery, he was pronounced dead 20 minutes after arriving at hospital. He was 34 years old"
He stabbed himself three times in the chest while drunk and fighting with his girlfriend. Two penetrated his heart Unfortunately people have tried to do the Kurt Cobain/Courtney Love thing and blame his girlfriend but he had been suicidal for years and she was never violent
hilarious that this guy managed to conflate the meaning of this song with suicide just because its melancholic. It literally has nothing to do with suicide or being suicidal. its about being an alcoholic from the theoretical perspective of the alcohol itself.
Hey well..to be fair..we can each interpret a song they way it makes us feel individually... that being said.. thanks for sharing his meaning? 👋 1 love
Not that I was un happy or anything...just... overwhelmed maybe...atcthe time.. you know though... its these moments that help us grow a tad more though.. I feel like it made me level up... 1 love... appreciate the time you spend with me and hope you join the table!
Yeah Elliott Smith lived his life in extreme pain and eventually did commit suicide. He actually stabbed himself in the heart. Listening to his music is haunting and disturbing on a whole different level, but it's also beautiful and truly genius. I love listening to his music, but I have to moderate it, because you really need to be careful about getting inside of a mind like that.
Elliott’s life was tragic, but he left behind one of the most beautiful catalogs of music ever made.
I hope you stay here for more music by him and countless others. 1 love.. I appreciate you..

I appreciate each person that gives another human a chance.. thanks you 1 love.. hope you return for more tunes and welcome to my table.
the title is a pun, it refers to alcoholic thoughts between bar visits, and the guitar tablature is literally between "bars"
Bro I'm a really big fan and never noticed that 😭
fond farewell, needle in the hay, waltz 2 and angeles
Fond Farewell and Waltz 2 break my heart.

Thank you 1 love and I appreciate you.
Best artist ever. Not one bad song. Before someone comments "Amity" even that one has it's moments (very few, but still it isn't bad)
amity is a great song
AMITY AMITY AMITY AMITY AMITY AMITY AMITY AMITY
I effin LOVE Amity. It just comes on super strong that's all. Not many songs are at 11 from the first beat.
This was an amazing reaction! I love Elliott and stumbled upon you. The minutes you paused and got serious I almost fell out of my chair.
I let everything take its natural way, all I can say is.. when I feel... I feel.. and I'm not holding it back! Unfortunately I relate and yeah...

Had no idea.. but I will do more believe that
My best friend ended his own life as well, I relate! Unfortunately
Not sure he DID commit suicide. But don't get me started on that.
