Any one that plays guitar knows from experience that as far as the number of chords used in a song the earlier Beatle songs were actually more difficult to play than the later songs
1963 I was 7. Soundtrack of my early years, especially those sweet summers... The band broke up same time as my parents and ever since, it's been a Long And Winding Road... I love their rendition of Til There Was You 🙂
Their b-sides were amazing. I'll Get You, This Boy, You Can't Do That, She's A Woman, Yes It Is, Rain, Baby, You're A Rich Man, I Am The Walrus, Revolution, Don't Let Me Down, Old Brown Shoe, You Know My Name (Look Up The Number). Amazing.

Neither of the former were played on the radio nearly enough for me at that frenetic time during the ascendance of Beatlemania in 1963 so prolific were their hits and promotion of their what seemed concurrently rather than sequentially running A sides.

Totally. In that middle 8 harmony you can hear George really well. It's a terrific harmony that's hard to hear in the studio/single version. If it is there at all? The vocals may have evolved as they kept performing the song? dunno.
The video footage comes from the British TV show 'Ready, Steady, Go!' which was broadcast on the ITV network. The Beatles mimed to their EMI recordings when they appeared on that show. This clip comes from their very first appearance on the show on 4 October 1963. They also mimed to 'She Loves You' and 'Twist and Shout' on the same episode. The audio on this clip comes from a totally separate BBC Radio show.

Yeah! I think it's a pitch problem. The audio is from BBC Sessions and seems to be recorded in old reel tapes that varied the rotation. The tone was never the original, I think!
@@willzimjohn I know i'm late, but this is because the video is of a "live" (mimed) performance of the song where they "played" in the original key of D. When they played the song live they would shift to E, and the audio here is of one of those live performances (for BBC radio in 1963). You can distinctly hear the open E chord shape when the guitars come in too
@@graniterhythm53 back in the day before modern day music videos, the "music video" would just be them pretending to play the song (notice for example how there are no microphones). this video took footage of that and replaced the audio with actual live audio of them playing this song. it just so happens that they played the song live in a different key from what they recorded

Strange Beatles fact. This single pu 425 Rickenbacker that George is playing. He didn't buy it in Liverpool or London. He bought it at a little music store in downstate Mount Vernon, Illinois, in the fall of 1963 while visiting his sister who lived there. His first U.S. gig was at the VFW hall in Eldorado, Ill., with a group of his sister's musician friends, the Five Vests. Seriously. That was months before the Ed SullivanTV show in February 1964 that introduced the Beats to America.

This interview was in NYC, I believe, right after their big splash on the Ed Sullivan Show in Feb '64, the point being that America had been quite unaware of the Beatles until "I Want To Hold Your Hand" was heard here in Jan '64. Of course, by the time I heard this interview, years after the fact, I knew that George's sister lived here, so I knew he had a reason for being here without the Beatles. He was asked, "Had anyone here (in the States) ever heard of the Beatles yet?" No, George said. "I went into a record shop and asked if they'd heard of us, and they hadn't." He added, "That was in *September."* And the record shop in question may have been in NYC (best I recall his comments), where he might possibly have stopped on his way to Illinois.
I was 12 when they came to America the first time. I’ll never forget watching glued to the TV news as they came off the plane. So happy I grew up with them, can’t imagine life without them.

They're lip-synching to a live BBC take, so you're right that we're hearing a prerecorded version as they fake along, but the version we hear is live, not the one on the B side of She Loves You. Enjoy!
I had a friend who ran his own independent record store years ago and he told me he knew Beatles fans who only liked the early Beatles songs when they were touring live before Rubber Soul and they grew artistically and got sophisticated later. They always had good harmonies but I only liked a few of the early Beatles songs which I never tire of. Love Me Do, I Saw Her Standing There, All My Loving and She’s a Woman to name the main ones. Also, Ticket to Ride and Daytripper! Those are great songs from any Era. But I much preferred the Beatles Help and later Albums the best. The early stuff I find way too simple and even annoying. I’ll Get You, She Loves You, She’ll get Him, I’ll get Her. It was all these three word love songs that weren’t as complex or great as the latter songs are. So as great as the Beatles were live, I prefer the latter albums the best! They really had two Careers. The early MopTops live and then the Pop quartet afterwards who constantly changed and grew better and better. It was amazing Artistic growth to go from Love Me Do to Sgt. Pepper, then the White Album and then finally Abbey Road! A Stunning Artistic Journey they traveled in only 10 years! I’ll get you? They got me later for sure! No doubt about it! Got me for life!

I have listened to the studio recording of this song on my old album a million times. I have never heard or seen this live video ever, not in 60 years! I’m so used to hearing John and Paul mix up the lyrics in the bridge that hearing them sing it correctly is blowing my mind!

I have been a performing rock ‘n’ roll musician almost my whole life and I find that musicians cannot play Beatles music unless they study it, yet they all think it’s so simple.
People say the Beatles early songs are simple. They aren't. try writing something as catchy and joyous as this?

The bridge alone is a study in harmony movement. Not to mention how beautiful the melody is to it.
The harmony singing for the middle 8 that starts at 1:11, to me, is THE quintessential Beatle sound.

I have listened to the studio recording of this song on my old album a million times. I have never heard or seen this live video ever, not in 60 years! I’m so used to hearing John and Paul mix up the lyrics in the bridge that hearing them sing it correctly is blowing my mind!
