It sounds like he's not even trying to sound different than the vocal style used in Disturbed. He's singing the same way. In contrast, Maynard for A perfect Circle is a complete shift. I didn't know at first it was the same guy from Tool.
I don't understand why people think that the bands have to be one or the other. The two are a nice complement to the other. You have Disturbed which sticks to its roots with the hard rock we have grown accustom to and here you have Device which is embracing a new era of rock by including different sound elements. You get the best of both worlds with the same vocalist we have come to enjoy.

I'm with you on that one, I've been a fan of Disturbed since the beginning. Nobody can sing like David, you could say he lights the fire within when he sings. Rock on David!! ^_^
David Is Disturbed itself, He does not need the others to be as epic as he has been in the years. This is a great album. It is still Disturbed to me as long as he is with this new group. David Disturbed 4 Life!

David is an excellent lyrical singer. And in Device, David is able to get away from the trenched memories of Devon and move forward to other topics he has really never even scratched the surface of. Disturbed is still alive, as David himself said in an interview. Disturbed was just on the back burner for David as Device is just another step on the climb of this industry for him.
I loved Disturbed, but I have to agree. David is Disturbed. The artists in Disturbed other than him weren't necessarily spectacular, nor did they stand out. That's why this sounds just like Disturbed really. Note-worthy artists are well known. That's why people pay attention to Synyster Gates. He's a badass guitar player. And that's why people miss The Rev, he stood out because he was a fantastic drummer who left his mark.
I also have to disagree. I really love Disturbed, but this album didn't get to me as the Disturbed albums did. The sound is more industrial than that of Disturbed. This album was the biggest dissapointment of 2013 for me sadly :(

I couldn't help but bang my head to the beat, songs like "the game" "haunted" "pain redefined" & "liberate" have the hook that keeps me un able to sit still, I never tire of these... and I'm sorry, but Device just doesn't have that.
i have to agree, david is an awesome singer, and honestly i think he is this bands only redeeming factor. Nothing like the hooks and intensity of disturbed. I would have liked to see the lyrics for this sing done disturbed style though.... could be epic.
The guys from Disturbed are all just taking a break from the 20+ years of constant writing/recording/touring. They said they'd come back to it once it felt fresh and new to them. As for Device, I personally dig them. David's vocals are always spot on and have been in a constant progression to where now he can sing really well as well as pull off that gnarly animalistic voice he's been known for. I like to think of Device as David's personal extension of Disturbed.
Device and Disturbed are completely different. Disturbed is more heavy metal, Device is more instrumental, it is more melodic..two VERY different bands. For those who find them similar you're mistaking it because David is singing too, which btw again..his voice = epicness. Great song, absolutely fell in love with it! :)

He said in his video describing the lyrics of this song that it's a message to people who criticize him and his music. From what I've noticed in the majority of David's lyrics and videos, he likes to sing about the corruption inside of modern society, among other things. It's like a machine seeking to control us. I think the content of this video fits those ideas perfectly.
Love the lyrics and how the pace they are conveyed with resonates their true emotion. All the words slurring together just like all the thoughts of the insane.
Those of u saying this band sucks obviously don't know good music. Literally every song on this album is amazing..especially considering its their first (and hopefully not last) album. "you think you know" "penance" "out of line" "hunted" "opinion" are all hard unique bad ass songs. Those of u whining about disturbed...get used to this band cuz they're gonna get big soon. You're not wrong, but the album has many different themes. Take Recover for example. Lyrically its alot more up-beat than most Disturbed songs.

You know, I dig this. I dig this a lot - I'm really fucking proud of David for exploring other sounds, new things. To answer those, to my knowledge he hasn't left Disturbed, and probably won't - they're simply on hiatus.
Music is art, and art has to be given room to grow - and this is definitely growing. I can't wait to hear more.

He said in his video describing the lyrics of this song that it's a message to people who criticize him and his music. From what I've noticed in the majority of David's lyrics and videos, he likes to sing about the corruption inside of modern society, among other things. It's like a machine seeking to control us. I think the content of this video fits those ideas perfectly.

Those of u saying this band sucks obviously don't know good music. Literally every song on this album is amazing..especially considering its their first (and hopefully not last) album. "you think you know" "penance" "out of line" "hunted" "opinion" are all hard unique bad ass songs. Those of u whining about disturbed...get used to this band cuz they're gonna get big soon. There music is catchy hardcore tough and amazing. Go buy the album u won't b disappointed!
