- A live stream didn't work out, but I'd asked for recommendations and this was the first tune requested that I didn't actually know, so I figured I'd just go ahead and learn it. So here's a full-quality cover. De-Loused is such a crazy record, I should learn the whole thing. All hail Jon Theodore!
Green Gretsches. 16x22, 10x12, 8x10, 16x16, 8x8, and 11x13 on the left. Most of those toms aren't played here. 6.5x14 Black Beauty with a coated Ambassador on top. I tried the LM402, but the BB sounded closer to the record.
15" Paiste Modern Essentials Hats, 20" Signature Thin China, 20" and 18" HHX Complex crashes, and 22" etched stamp Paiste Traditionals Light Ride.
SM57/441 on snare (1073/ASP880 pre), 421s on toms (ASP880 pre), RE20/47fet on kick (1073/ASP880 pre), R84s on overheads (with newly-acquired AEA RPQ2 pre!), KM184 on hat and ride (ASP880) Gefell room mic (KM54-esque, through RME pre).
Video taken with my iPhone 8 and MoviePro so I can set the exposure.
No joke Ryan - I'm literally watching this because I searched Mars Volta drum covers. You nailed it.
Haha what's up Brady!? I guess I should learn the rest of this album like I initially intended...
Same......
Fantastic. I never realised how much range could be had out of a snare drum.
yes. fucking. sir. An absolute beast of a cover. Unbelievably well done. bravo
Don’t you just love Theodore’s writing.
And some of blake Fleming beats...he is responsible for some important songs,..like: Roulette dares,concertina..
I think this is Theodore's at his prime, you don't see him doing that in QOTSA, which I believe is a shame, such potential and talent
Great job! This one is giving me the fits right now. I’ll get it eventually maybe 😆
Spot on bro! Fantastic!! Thanks for sharing!!

😂he makes it look EASY cuz he’s so relaxed in his feel….but this song is HARD AS A BITCH
awesome
Fucking spot on
This is a total nerd-snipe but meant with good vibes: at 1:28 your paradiddle isn't quite right: you're playing RLLRRLRL but it's RLLRLRRL in the song.
Yeah, i noticed the same thing, but you're not 100% correct either, the full bell + snare pattern is RLLRLRRL on the "first bar" and then RLLRRLRL on the "second bar". Guess i returned the nerd-snipe lol, with all due respect.
@@indiomutis3007 Interesting, you may be right but I can't pinpoint it. Is there a video or something that shows what you're seeing/hearing?
@@machty I would send you the transcription i got but youtube keeps deleting my comment lol. Anyways, you can also tell by hearing the snare accent on the "second bar" just before the 3rd bell + kick hit. If it was RLLRLRRL on both bars you wouldn't be able to play that accent in that position.
Holy shit you just double nerd sniped my ass….
@@indiomutis3007oh shit triple nerd sniped😂😂😂😂😂
What's the sticking of the main snare rhythm through all the song?
Just accents? Brütal! I thought there was a trick to it, but i just have to try harder then. :/ @@fitz93
Great playing! How did You tune BB? I would like to get the same sound from my BB 14x6,5
It's Ambassadors top and bottom (coated/hazy), both tuned pretty tight, but not choked. It's probably worth mentioning that I've got 26-strand Vic Firth wires and 1.8mm hoops on this bad boy.
tru
Count it. You did. Nice now count tool
