Haven't seen brackish water based tanks in a while. I remember a few years ago watching a video on a brackish water tank with Mudskippers. Speaking of which, you should try to raise some! Great job in your videos as always.
@ Wild world of Farley brother you rock keep up the great content plus many blessings onto you and your beautiful family much love from Cape Breton Nova Scotia and stay strong in these crazy times
Well done on the instructions on puffers a lot of people get them without looking in to it witch leads to death and also Zeus could do with a little more plants to hide for a place to hide but amazing job
Nice brackish water setup there. Been thinking to have one of those. This quarantine days just been busy doing water change, and looking and feeding my community fish and betta.
Does adding marine salt effect the bacteria in the aquarium with regards the nitrate cycle? Is it the same type of bacteria in both the fresh and brackish water nitrate cycle or do we have to cycle an independent tank specifically set up as brackish in order to establish a proper environment to transfer them to? Or can you simply alter their current environment from freshwater to brackish with no issue?
Great video! This was the first time a see a video of yours. And I really love it. Great filming, nice background music and you really give good information. I also have a figure 8 puffer, but he/she is still in freshwater, think I have to change the water from fresh into brackish soon. Thank You 🙏🏻
Thank you for this! I have a figure 8 puffer that I’ve had in a freshwater tank for almost a year with some tropical fish and I want to switch him over to a brackish tank!!
Thank you for making this! I’m thinking of getting a figure 8 puffer and want to do some research on them, is feeding them pretty costly? I have a mandarin dragonet and she needs tons of money for her pods. Haha. In my saltwater tank
I just lost one of my newish f8s this morning he wasn't doing great to start with his belly would never fill up and go round like the others after eating it was likemit was collaped inward I feel like crap I hate to loose a fish! Puffers are my favourite I love your MBU what age will he be? I want one myself I've went and got the big tank set up for one but want one the size you have to bring him up as my own! Most for sale are massive people can't keep no longer I'm holding out to find a younger one first before making that move if I have too!
Hey Farley, you ever thought about a Lemon Oscar? I have a tiger Oscar in a 90 gallon aquarium, but I would love to own a Lemon Oscar they look so cool.
Hey bro is your figure 8 still Alive? I slow dripped my puffer for about 5 hours until he reached the salinity of 1.004. My water is good as well I had him for 2 months I have a Seachem ammonia checker that monitors all day it’s safe. My ph, kh, nitrates, hardness, and temperature is fine. He seemed to have gotten stressed out turned really dark and was not eating he was like that for about three days and died. Any recommendations I see you had success.
Id say that u should calculate how many teaspoons do u have to put to get desired lv of salinity Then add like one spoon everyday also u dont have to be very accurate as in backwaters etc brackish water areas salinity changes a lot
Hi Farley I have this Figure 8 Puffer that is basically healthy. He eats good and is not picked on, but he does a lot of pacing, aka glass surfing. Also, occasionally, he'll go into this eratic pattern where he'll swim like he's drunk, go in circles, run into things, etc. Then, he'll mysteriously snap out of it. First time I saw this I thought I was losing him. I have a well furnished and planted 55g brackish tank for him, but he still surfs a lot. Have you ever encountered this drunken behavior in puffers??
How’s it going brother. You can expect to pay around $11-$35. The puffer ranges about $8-11 but if you order it online over night shipping is about $24.
@ Wild World of Farley -Farley brother you’re awesome thank you for all your help it is so greatly appreciated now I know why I love your channel content is always on spot with information and inspiration that you share is amazing
I’m pretty sure they even grow up in brackish water in the wild, and while the figure 8 stays in its brackish climate, leopard puffers often migrate to the ocean.
Hello. Just watched your video because I recently acquired a figure 8 and was wondering the how to for making brackish water. I was wondering since mine is already in his fresh water tank if I can convert to brackish while he is in it? Also do they prefer any specific kind of snail? I hear it helps keep their beaks down and I work for a pet store that has "pest snails" all in our aquariums that I can get for free. I don't honestly know anywhere else to get snails small enough.
@@voz5585 I have been doing with the marine salt. Water has been great. I use the fluval flex 15 gallon and the system is great for beginners and folks with limited space.
My future 8 doesn't seem very well I have had him for about 3 weeks and he's not looking to good for the past 4 days so I'm guessing it's because I have him in fresh water
i was told to acclimatise my puffer over the course of a couple of weeks so i just done it by adding salt to get same concentration as u did but just done it through couple weeks doing it thru water changes so it was more diluted when added to tank and just kept doin it with water changes feel like i wasted a lot of time after seein ur vid haha😂
Nick Bailey I did a fair amount of research and found that most puffers can naturally adapt the the changes in salinity as in the wild they constantly have to do so depending on where they are swimming. but it’s better safe than sorry. What about making the tank more interesting? And you need a bigger filter plus a sponge filter that is separate He’s gonna get bored in that tank He needs to acclimate slower to beamish over a couple weeks
NooooooOOOO! Anything can be in that water. The last thing you want some nasty hitchhiker attacking your scale less Puffer. The best way is to start with RO water and reef salt.

Yay thanks man do you remember me saying he should hopefully live for about 10 years now, you may want to add some hiding places and his looks a bit white as he is blending into the sand.
Wild World of Farley Yes does look like it puffers are intelligent and when moving tank is one of the most stressful things in a week he should be begging for food again 😀
airjaff when they are small like mine, they’ll grow about 1 inch a month (with adequate food, tank space, and water changes) until they are close to 12 inches. Then they’ll slow down.
I have to make this clear. A brackish water fish means that it can handle large changes of salinity. Some grow up in salt and live in fresh, so its the other way around. Others stay right in middle. They need a bit of salt in their life's. It does not mean that all brackish fish need it. A bull shark shouldnt even be on the list of brackish water. It can live its whole life in fresh water just fine. It can live its whole life in salt water just fine.

Get a bumble bee gobbie and name it biggie. Even though its a small fish.they tend to get along.
Do an update on your figure 8 I have two of them they are amazing fish.
when P-Diddy is over 2 feet long in his pool pond... hope nobody thinks it's a hot tub, cuz he is always hungry for some 'snails'... ;)

Thanks for showing us how to make a brackish water fish tank thats the next fish tank on my list
How many cups of salt do I need to put in my measuring cup for a 20 gallon ?

You could probably add salt water slowly with each water change and buy a salinity reader to measure if it is within appropriate levels
@@voz5585 I have been doing with the marine salt. Water has been great. I use the fluval flex 15 gallon and the system is great for beginners and folks with limited space.
Maybe you can get a green spotted puffer to and put in with Zeus
Is that an Anubias in Zeus new tank?
Is brackish salt ok I'm not used to this salt
What kind/brand of soil did you use for the tank? I’m looking for kind like this.
I get it from pet smart: Top Fin® Aquatic Sand - White
Is this about adult size ?
My future 8 doesn't seem very well I have had him for about 3 weeks and he's not looking to good for the past 4 days so I'm guessing it's because I have him in fresh water
So question, I have my figure 8 in fresh right now and want to slowly add the salt to the tank... so do I add when I do water changes?
Adding it when you do water changes would be best. Little by little

Chris's Aquariums both are great!!! But I love my f8
You the best ..💪💪
How often do you feed your fresh water puffer fish???
Fish
Nice close ups, perhaps get a stand to keep the camera steady?
I see 'uses lake water' I hit subscribe.
Hey Farley, I had a question I was hoping for someone to answer. If I use a regular filter will it remove the salt from the tank?
No it won’t
Then throw in some mollies and call them Jr. Mafia.
What if you don’t have an instant ocean hydrometer???
Brendon Bluu there are other tools but this is the cheapest way to measure the specific gravity
Wild World of Farley I didn’t have one but I got one but thank you for letting me know there are other options!

So how much brackish salt for 10 gallon tank?
I do 1 cup per 5g of water and achieve roughly 1.006 SG.

My puffer has been in fresh water for over a year...no issues.
