i agree with ll cool j. A lot of rapper these days got nothing to say. So they end up talking about girls, their wealth etc. Let's hope that more and more people will become as big as Eminem
@freshPrincess626 Yeah that's true I know what ur sayin. Theres alot of 'Club/Pop' influenced tracks which just have rapping as the vocals to make it seem as though it's Hip-Hop
@Smife89 well he never said that NOBODY was doing anything different, but there is this thing going on in music right now where a lot of the heavily rotated songs and artists sound kind of the same, all doing the same type of stuff.
i forever respect LL he's like a legend in this game BUT just because you are a founder of this hip hop game you have to let go and realise that times change i mean when im 50 my kids are gonna think what i thought was dope is wack you just got respect the culture of the times...
I couldnt agree anymore with what ll cool j is saying. Pop music is dead and repeatative. Artists shouldnt crumble under the pressure of money. Its like wiley, he sticks to grime and grime only
Why are people talking about how LL was doing r&b/hiphop before? Why does it matter? LL done that music and still came back to murder canibus and if you feel he didnt fair enough but he was damn lyrical. Hip hop isnt underground anymore get over it. IT WENT MAINSTREAM LIKE 15-10 yrs ago its too popular to not be a form of POP (popular) music. He admited (at the end) he did do radio songs but he obviously says he wont do it again so if he dont go platinum or number 1 its cos hes gone raw again.
@OfficialDjHits yeah true he kinda contradicted himself there BUT his radio songs were worth listening too. plus he was different from the other mainstream rappers out at the time. ll had his own sound, 2pac, biggie, jay, nas, wu tang all got mainstream attention and all sounded different. today everyone sounds the same.
Nuff respect for LL but there ARE artists doing different stuff. Cudi, Wale, J Cole, Asher Roth. They aren't about tryin to get number ones, they just wanna make good music. Look forward to LL's album when it drops
@Smife89 well i don't think that's exactly the issue, because there's been club/pop/r&b fused hip-hop since the 80s. but the prodcution was a lot better (and not too overproduced like it tends to be today), more interesting, and more diverse. same for the lyrical content. there was just more diversity before, more artists were trying to do their own thing, not be put in a box of what somebody else already made hot.
LL you are a much more blessed good man without hip-hop and Rapp you have gotten above hip-hop and Rapp you are a very successful man and Courageous blessed gift from God to all mankind it's beautiful to have you as a successful role model and mentor and it would be ashamed to watch it all go to waste by holding on to hip hop or Rapp which is behind you and beneath you, your above hip-hop and Rapp you have gone on to better things in life and it's marvelous in our eyes and Courageously worth your while be strong and Courageous and Blessed of the Lord.
LL's got 25 years in the game(Radio came out in '85!). He's keeping it honest. Even if his next joint is doo-doo (which I don't think it will be), he's still a legend.
God Bless Hip Hop

why when I typed Rakim in the search on Westwood's channel, this showed up?
Fresh Heat because that’s GOD SHOWING you WHO THE REAL G.O.A.T REALLY IS!!!
That was real of him to give Rick Rubin the credit for song structure instead of sitting there taking credit for something he didn't create.
fuck yes! LL Cool J got to the point of music all sounding the same, tired of it! Cool J is the best.
L.L. Cool J. knows exactly how to play an interview.

@jj4rent Very spot on. I mean, he's done his fair share of pop tracks but he's talking truth here.
Cool interview.
@Smife89
