I completed once 2 years ago but I remember the witty comedy & that monkey. Fun battle mechanics and a cool story about father & son. Not a long game just right 👌
I own a physical copy of this because it and Bahamut Lagoon were the first 2 JRPGs I played with translation patches. Its such a pretty game, especially for a first effort.
Wow, I've never heard of this one either (just found out about Treasure of the Rudras from your other video.) The art style in this game reminds me a bit of SaGa Frontier. Red and Blue (though of a different incarnation) are in SaGa Fronter as well. Strange coincidence!
Actually the fact this srpg has regular rpg traits like free world navigation puts it above most srpgs in terms of content package, because they all lack navigation. Shining Force is one of the few srpgs with free navigation but even so that is basically limited to towns and the path between towns. Btw it's kind of strange that this srpg subgenre has such notable limitation. Even unquestionable masterpieces like Final Fantasy Tactics lacks something so basic like that, that exists since Dragon Quest 1 and Final Fantasy 1 from the 80s. And Fire Emblem that is the oldest and biggest srpg franchise still has no free navigation except the 2nd game on the NES (and it isnt respected by the fanbase for doing that either way).
I emulated this game in the early 2000s. I think Japan should have sent this one our way but I was a kid and I don't know what I may have overlooked. Dragon Quest 3 on the Super Famicom had a symbol of peace in the Temple of Darmah or however it's spelled. The peace symbol may have played a part in the west not getting a solid remake of a great game... But also, Enix after part 4 made it here, I think the next game would be Dragon Quest Monsters years after part 4. Sure, this is likely a cultural thing but I'm a little obsessed with those games but not enough to learn Japanese because language is hard. Oh yeah, dude go Treasure Hunter G and Xygor Gaming for playing this game!
man i wish square enix would release a collection with forgotten gems like terranigma, illusion of gaia, life a life, treasure hunter g, rudras hidden treasure etc... Just like the Mana Collection but with other snes RPGS
Had it been released in the US, I probably would have gotten it simply because it was Squaresoft. If not, then I would've at least rented it from the local video store.
From what i've seen having returned to the game to play it seriously for the 1st time, the story isnt that special but the whole experience, especially the battle system, is very interesting. It shows a large number of quality of life advancements lacking in those early Square rpgs like FF5 and 6. There are even advancements lacking in Chrono Trigger (!). It makes me wonder how FF6 would have been if it was delayed and released with those features. Also the strategy based battle system has some merit for not being a copy of either Fire Emblem or Tactics Ogre.
This, Terranigma and Live A Live are 3 games that was weird never came to the US...its still weird to me Anyway, have you played Brain Lord on SNES? Cool game, try it 😊 Thanks for uploading 👍
Never played this one but looks cool man I really liked it so besides all the ones me and u have talked bout what are some other rpg strategies u recommend might be buying some soon
I never got far, had errors n crashes and save corruption for some reason. Don't recall as it was a billion years ago, but I never really tried tbh... I think I was put off since I played saga frontier and my brain rejected red n blue... mostly cuz no alkaiser or rouge
I’ve purchased a couple is the games you have shown, I thought of my self as a well versed RPG player but AGAIN you have shown me another game I’ve never heard of. I tried to look this up for purchase and I can’t find it. Where would I be able to buy this game at? I’ve been looking for a reason to dust off my older consoles

Ugh, that clock stopping...

Finished this game yesterday! What an absolute gem 😍!
It really is!
Never heard of this game. It's always a treat to discover a "new" 16 bit game I haven't played yet. Genuinely makes me happy.

I picked up a repro copy of this game last week because of this review, and I’m really liking it so far.
Glad to hear it!
Where did you find it?
Oh hey it’s PkmariO64
I forgot about this! I've definitely played this a bit years ago. Absolutely worth a shot

I emulated this a while back. Can't help but think of SaGa Frontier.
Agree,i have hard time asking other to play this game, they wont play this unless it reached certain bar of popularity for their standard
BRO THIS LOOKS FUN!
Aww wish I could’ve played this as a kid!
Ya I hear ya it pretty hard to go back to a16 bit title after playing on a switch or ps4 let alone vr!

Nah, they don’t like making money for nice things THAT much
In case if you were unaware a 2D HD remake of Live A Live was released on PS4/PS5 /Windows in April of last year.
@@TheItalianTrash And a year before that on Nintendo Switch. 🙄

Without a strategy guide these games are very difficult to figure out what or were to go next.
Seeing as how this game didn't release in the states, I don't feel as bad that I never heard of it. Normally I pay attention to squaresoft titles.
thanks for covering some of these old, lost gems. :)
Great review, man! I've heard about Treasure Hunter G in the past, but i have yet to try it. That will definitely change today!
"Creatively-named 'Dark Lord'" but no such zing against 'Red' or 'Blue'.
Cool thing is Red's character design was sort of "recycled" for the character Red Okonogi from Saga Frontier!
Subscribed. I will look for this game.

"Two brothers."
As soon as I finish both versions of demikids I think I'll give this a try.
Oh look, another awesome-looking game I never heard of, brought to you by Xygor.
Another very solid RPG a lot of people don't know about!
@@Xygor you're our "obscure RPG" handler.
reminds me alot of arc the lad
Square needs to remake this game, alongside Treasure of the Rudras and Bahamut Lagoon.

Resource management.... Its definitely made by Sting.
the game that gave birth to wild arms that gave birth to symphogear
Estou guardando meu snes para jogar este jogo.
Love this game....
Can you make a video about Brave Fencer Musashi
I will give this a try even tho i’m not that huge into strategy elements but it just looks too good
I wish someone would make a better fan translation - the one out there is really quite bad.

Mounten soundtrack is same as final fantasy phantom forest

You can definitely find copies on ebay, but they won't be the translated version.
@@Xygor so how would one get the translated version? Or is that a thing? Sorry man I’m like getting old and I’m so bad with tech 😅
Probably a rom/emu
@Francisco Campos wtf is a flash cart?
@@Ryan-mw1ry wtf is a rom/emu?

Played it back in the early 2000s, not my fave.
