Why Business Partners Are Stupid If You Own An Agency

  • I cannot stress this enough.
Do not start an agency with a business partner.
I’ve seen so many Six-Figure SMMA or Mastermind students start off with a partner, and it almost always starts the same way.
One ‘partner’ specialises in one area, the other ‘partner’ the other, for example, sales/ delivery.
Ultimately, one partner works harder than the other, wants to specialise in something differently, and suddenly, you have one partner doing all the work and the other collecting half of their profits.
Meanwhile, both partners have lost the ability to hire a contractor with more experience than them, both are beholden to the others’ wishes, and neither are able to flourish.
Many friends go into business partnerships together - and I always ask why?
You can still be friends, you can still speak to each other about business, trade problems and solutions and help each other out.
The only difference is, when it comes to splitting profits, you don’t have to.
I’ve never met anyone who could match what I bring to my agency, and who I would want to partner with.
Likewise, I’ve never known anyone who’s wanted me to partner with them - there’s guys out there way more experienced than me. And they would think - quite rightly - why should I?
Business partnerships never start, go or end well.
When you start out, go it alone - and succeed.

“Being scared” is definitely the biggest reason, people who are scared of sales will pass that to the business partner, people who are scared of getting results will pass that to the business partner.
Makes sense, but we have to master these fears if we desire to build a successful agency👍🏼

Absolutely spot on! It’s a cop out from actually going through the process or perturbation to become an agency owner (depending on what success looks to agency owners).
    Enjoyed this video, Iman.

It blows my mind to see how many people actually partner up, it makes absolutely no sense. That been said, I considered it when I got started, luckily I learned a lot since then haha

People just don’t know how to say “No”
I had one in the beginning and it did not work out whatsoever. I invested in courses and coaching but he didn’t, I had the qualifications to do the work and he didn’t. Basically I ended up doing everything. We are no longer in a partnership and it’s been much easier and less stressful. Just be careful who you associate yourself with.

Getting a business partner vs hiring an expert is a real tough decision.

i have personally encountered this problem,my client did 50-50 partnership with his video editor. Crazy!I cam to know this recently, I was like I can hire someone for lot less and probably much better job will be done. Problem is He doesn't want a buy out now. He is loving the growth of the business recently. So yeah partnership is real trouble if you are not careful.

So when signing clients and specializing in paid media, where does content come from? I know you say to hire out for managing ads, but the bigger dilemma I'm facing is content to advertise with. I am not a photographer/videographer, so if a client needs content, what's the absolute best way to outsource this? Do I tell them they need to hire someone for content? Or do I try and find someone for them?

*Well* in my opinion you can HIRE a lot of great talent online or in real person and sometimes they can “help you” to make crazy money. I think this is the smartest idea.
But Sometimes that great employee or freelance can be Partner and you can make crazy money because your “partner and you are a good team”
I think you get a Partner to Speed the process of your business.
*but Today in 2019 you don’t need anymore a partner because you can Hire talent*

If you're not in a business where you compete against huge players like banks or commercial real estate in top spots most people wouldn't need a business partner or investors (which then also have a say on what to do).

Hello, I’m 16 years old and am starting my SMMA agency. I’ve done a ton of research but one thing I still don’t understand is registering my agency. I live in Illinois and a minor can’t get an LLC here. That’s fine though because I know an LLC isn’t necessary. My question is will my business just remain unregistered? If so then how will taxes work?
