I think that this video will help people it's okay to not know what you're making to just throw some paint.
A small dot of dish soap on the gel plate will stop the beading of the more liquid paint.

Thank you for sharing your process. I’m a printmaker but have only worked with relief wood and linocut printing. Gel plate is a new world for me and it’s been making be pull my hair out. I appreciate this.

Wait. You can use a sharpie on the gell plate and it will come off? Can the whole thing be sharpie?

Yes! And Yes! For the most part yes. But you'll need paint or gel medium to pull the sharpie of the gel plate.
