Hey, my name is Paul (aka Junkykid). I'm a Designer and Illustrator. My plan is to make art videos of all kinds, including different drawing methods, tutorials, challenges, and other ways to stay creative and have fun! I mostly work with pencil, ink, markers and watercolor. I also love using my iPad Pro, Apple Pencil and Procreate App that I will share on this channel as well.
I have a degree in Communication Design or Graphic Design. I've been in the Creative Design world for over 20 years, but I've been drawing for a lot longer. I've learned a lot over the years and still learning. I have a desire to learn, inspire and share with other artists, so feel free to ask me any questions and let's do this!

Gel Plate Laser Image Transfer "Don't Change" Real-Time Series: EPS 001
I've received feedback requesting slower demonstrations, so I've made adjustments accordingly. I hope you enjoy this real-time gel plate laser image transfer video, where you can observe and learn at a more comfortable pace. This piece features the torn image effect prints that I've been experimenting with. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

Wow, nice. I always wondered about transferring to material. Now, I know. ❤
I couldn’t get any real successful print transfers with laser prints from office store copy machines. I did set the ink on “color”. Since then I have t been trying anything else, I really wanted to use photocopies. 😭😫👺
Sorry, to hear that. It can be a hard thing to get right. I'm not 100% sure, but could it be possible the file it self was setup as a rich black (all colors mixed up to make up the black)? It is possible that even though it was set to color, you may not have gotten the toner layers needed for this to work.
@@junkykid_art Thanks very much for that. I’ll take note in case I ever buy my own laser printer. And I might. It’s impossible to know (or to control) what the office store machines settings details were, but I followed the advice of a GELLI artist and set it on “color” instead of black but it didn’t help. Gelli is exciting, I’ve seen such inspiring art. Ugh. 😂. This video is my favorite of yours 👍. It’s fascinating. Thanks again.
Question, is there a reason why the prints i want are only available when I'm broke?🤷♂️🙏🤗
;) Ha! It's a conspiracy.
And it's that simple folks 😂😂😂 /s
LOL, pretty much! 😊
Hi! I love your work and was inspired to buy a gel plate. I am having a problem and wonder if you can help? I used an entirely black and white only image printed on a laser printer. I printed it twice, and the image revealed on the gel plate after pressing on the printed image was as is in your video. However, transferring the image from the gel plate onto the surface didn't work. I did as you did and left it under a book for half an hour. The image transferred a bit, but is bare visible. What did I do wrong?
Thank you for demonstrating this so well
I like the way it came out!!! Kinda retro futuristic.
love the outcome
One question. Do you use special paper for the drawing? Or is it just a printer printout? Thanks! Your work is excellent!
I use laser print outs for my image transfers. Needs to be a laser print, not inkjet for this process to work. The other trick is to print in color of a very high contrast image.
@@junkykid_art great information! thanks for your time. cheers! 😎🎨
Are you using acrylic or shirt paint? I'm kinda dumb lol
@@arcinterrupter not a dumb question. I’m using acrylic mixed with GAC 900 by Golden a medium for fabric. Turns the acrylic paint into fabric paint.
@@junkykid_art awesome thank you! I didn't even know that was a possibility
Cool. Textured background. I like the song choice as well.
Hi again !, do you use your own laser printer ? is there a brand you’d recommend ? I’m thinking of buying one. I’ve used prints I made at an office store. Results weren’t the best and there’s no running a laser through twice because their paper supply is inside the machine. Thanks.
I use one at my job. I know of one recommended printer, by two other gel printers, you could look up: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw amzn.to/3WChoNw
The Betty Crocker cookbook 😄
Thank you for the video. When you said to keep the paint fluid, of course than means don’t work too slow, but do you use any additives for fluidity ? Thanks.
I don't use any additives, but I do mix paints, like in this example. But yes with images transfers you have to move fairly quickly for the best results.
@@junkykid_art Ok thanks so much.
Hi 😊 did you use some special ink to transfer the picture?
Beautiful work! What's a good printer to use?
I love your work. Did you come up with original character designs for these works? Or are you quoting an existing character?
Thank you! The images were originally AI generated of separate images and then assembled in Photoshop to create my own final image.
Láser print?
Yes. I start with a laser print, not inkjet.
very cool...
Where do you get your images from, for the Gelli plate transfer? Are they photos you take yourself?
Hi! I love your work! 🤩
So good oh yea and the art is cool too.💗💗💗
So good
Thank you!
I think that this video will help people it's okay to not know what you're making to just throw some paint. A small dot of dish soap on the gel plate will stop the beading of the more liquid paint.
Thank you. I hope so. Thanks for the tip, I'll give it try with the dish soap.
Aztek?
It does have a slight Aztec flair to it.
That is amazing work
This, by far, is the BEST example I’ve seen of the gel printing process. Beautiful work. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing your work. I’ve never been more inspired to start this style of art. Someone on Instagram said you could make a killing teaching your art; sign me up if you ever decide to teach!
Thank you so much! So glad to hear that! It has been in the back of my head about teaching or workshops.
@@junkykid_art I'm there.. just saying. :)
❤❤❤
👏👏👏👏👏
Amazing work ❤
Golden Palominos That's a great album.
Whoa
Nice. Just been looking for shorts that use this song
I aspire to be as good as you!
Thank You! I believe in you.
This is dope💓
What paper with face did you use? Is it a magazine? I didn't understand how it happened 😕
Where can I find the plate ? Any help link?
Check out my links in my About page. I have 2 Amazon links with a list items to get.
LOVE this print! Thanks for the inspiration.
@@mngaragesales Thank you!
Can you use any kind of paper? I want to do this like drawing on my tablet and printing the image. Does that work as well?
I use regular copy laser print paper, but you have to use a laser printer. Convert your image to a rich black (all colors to make your black) print it out in color and you should be able to make a transfer to gel plate. I would first learn the gel plate image transfer method first, this is a little advanced if you haven't done this process yet. I'm really just showing it's possible, but not a perfect method.
This was amazing! Totally didn't know the sharpie would transfer (still new). Really appreciate hearing your thought process throughout
It will if you are using a GelliArts or GelPress gel plate. Thank you!
I am having issues with laser prints, what weight or type of paper do you print on? Following your work, such an inspiration.
Thank you! Sorry, to hear that. I've been printing a regular copy print paper, but I have used a slightly better paper which is nice, but not entirely necessary. What I would suggest is trying to get as much toner per printout as possible. Mine are actually all 4 colors laid on top each other and printed out in color. So if you're using just a black try running it through the printer twice. It's the build up of toner which acts as a resistance to paint. Hope this helps.
Love these videos - why do you sometimes lay the paper face down on the gel plate vs. have the paper lying down and then place the gel plate on and then flip it over?
Good question. It mostly depends on where I'm at with the process, I usually lay the transfer part with the printout on the gel plate due to timing, you have a short window of time and I don't want to risk disturbing the image transfer part. The rest of the process is a little more forgiving.
@@junkykid_art TYVM for the reply and again TYVM for posting your process of the wonderful artwork you create
I'm glad you didn't try to reposition the plate. I think the jaggedness makes the work even more interesting. This was also more informative than your tiktok videos.
I agree. I'm glad you found it more informative. I plan to convert some of my other ones like this. I'll try to add some VO over it.
I mean... You're taking this at a while new level! 😮❤
Awww, thank you!
Incredible work! I just used gelli for the first time this morning and you just blew my mind 🤩🤯
Thank you! Cheers!😊👍
Fantastic! You have given me a few ideas! 😍
Awesome! Thank you! 😊
So wonderfully weird! Wherever do you get your images? I’ve tried messing around with filters, etc, love Octolady, too! Is she your original art?
Thank you. I’m using Midjourney to create AI generated images. And then they need to be treated and adjusted in Photoshop. Some are mine or found and collaged, but a lot are AI.
this is so cool!!!!!😍
I want to touch those gel pads.
Ok this is the original purpose of UA-cam, to show off your talents. Thank you so much for sharing such an incredible talent. Love the music too, it's perfect!
Thank you so much 😀
