- Every year, Seiko has been producing a limited run of watches in full black dress. They have dubbed this anticipated release the "Black Series", and 2022 does not disappoint. Seiko has implemented a new "electric green" lumibrite that is a vibrant, rich green by day, and of course, super luminous at night.
Choose from the Samurai, Tortoise or mid-size Solar diver.

This is the coolest, best looking Samurai ever! It makes me wanna buy it even though I’m pretty much saturated with the brand 😄 I wish it wasn’t limited so that maybe I’d have a shot at it later.

Love the land turtle. Have a normal one with black dial directly from Japan with a movement regulated by grand SEIKO. Absolute champ. And very accurate ( about -5 seconds per day ).
I believe the crown is pulled not to draw from the battery. When hacked, the movement should stop and so less battery draw. Just a guess.
Its solar powered though. When its in the box its probably not running anyway.
@@antman674 Solar powered just means the battery gets charged or topped off in the daylight so long as there is exposure to sunlight. But that still means there is a battery. I have a G-Shock that’s solar powered and that is how the system works.
For the consumer, you want the watch to work right off the bat and out of the box. You don’t want to have it charge in the daylight for a day just to make it operate. It’s just easier to pull out the crown and make sure there is no battery drain from the get go.
This used to be done on some older quartz watches back in the day.
Best looking Samurai to date. Hopefully I can pick one up in a few years.

Those are really, really sharp. All blacked out can look a little goofy, a little too "try hard," but these are really classy.

G Shock likes going overboard with the blacked out look. DLC, black lume, and negative display. For when looking tacticool is more important than the time.

Shoot, I'd already bought the solar diver from a Japanese retailer a couple months ago. The color scheme is absolutely gorgeous. Now I just need a strapcode with endlinks...

These are great. Did not realize the lume was so bright in daytime. Nice release. Now bring back the mini turtle! 🐢

I don't think it's bright lume, but just that the lume is dyed bluish green.
Nobody does lume like seiko does.

The only reason I can see for shipping a solar watch with the crown out, is so the battery would hold it’s initial charge while boxed.?
Possible, but it's more subject to damage that way.
Oh man that Tortoise is cool. The beige dial SRPG13 is next on my list but that green lume is making me think twice.
I guess the reason for not having the Turtoise ISO certified is that it is impossible due to it having a compass bezel. It is the same thing with my Orient M-Force, it has a compass bezel and is not certified while the versions with a diving bezel is. Except for the bezel they are built the same way.

I wanted to comment on the video quality. I could really make out the details of the watches you showed in this video. It was really well shot.
The bezel is ceramic since this is the King Samurai version.

Samurai rocks .. sapphire .. cyclops .. DLC .. lume .. great strap .. ceramic bezel …rocking for 2 months now .. love it ..
And pleasantly surprised the screw down crown is much much better than what a Seiko used to come with …

I think Seiko got too much flak on it and have fixed this part for majority of their products these days … didn’t have a bezel misaligned for any of my 5 Seikos

Do you service 6R35? I got a brand new sumo that came from Japan and manually winding the crown broke. Everything else works fine. I don’t want to send it to Japan.

I’d go crazy for a DLC coated islander!!! Something like the smaller diver, or rangemaster would just extract money from my wallet. Cmon you know you want to!

Knowing your love of flying, are you into R/C planes? They have some amazing r/c planes. There's a public r/c field near me and it's always popping with folks on the weekends.
These are great looking but I wish they were more affordable. Maybe you could come up with something comparable and more affordable. 🤔 The background looks great but the audio has a bit of reverb or echo. Not terribly bad though. Thanks for sharing them Marc. Have a great day! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Hi Marc, what is your stores policy about chapter rings, bezel misalignment etc. asking because I have had a couple bad chapter rings from Seiko. What about if an Islander has alignment issues?

I prefer the Samurai but I saw the tortoise for $230 and just thought it was too good a deal given it was less than half the price of the Samurai. Love it so far!!

Description for the samurai says hardlex mineral crystal but video and features say sapphire. Which is it for sure?

I was going to go with either an isl or a seiko turtle to replace my steel dive captain Willard it’s been a great watch for the year I’ve had it but wanted a new watch from a well known brand. I ended up buying a seiko deep blue Batman jdm model as I’ve been wanting a seiko for years and just never bought one so I’m pretty excited for it to show up :)
Really like this series of Seikos. May need to add the first one to my collection!
My first Seiko, 1970, still have it still works. My Rolex is not rated as highly as my 🏆Seiko submariner.

The Samuri should come with a bracelet. A rubber strap on any watch gives it a cheap appearance.
This strap is quality one… doesn’t feel / look cheap in my opinion .. I would say try it out at an AD… you may be pleasantly surprised …

Mark recorded the part of the video showing off the watch inside an opera hall that's why there's so much reverb
And That's why it's not too bad sounding reverb, sounds very acoustic

What's with the dwarf hour hand on the Samurai? Why go to all the trouble with the special lume and then compromise legibility with the hour hand?
More of a monster hand, no?
As samurai owner since the second release in 2017 with that small but fat hour hand I can't confirm any lack of legibility. It is amazingly easy to read time both during day and night, way easier than any other watch in my collection.

Great review but the large empty room your in is echoing alot on the sound track.
So, this was done with a lav mic. In post, it sounded sooooo flat, so I added a small amount of reverb; that might be what you're hearing?

Those are nice. But after having owned 2 Islander Watches I would choose the Islander over all watches in its price range.
The blacked out aviator on a nato runs flawlessly even after a great deal of shock.
BUT would love to see a couple of tactically marketed

Me too, I bought a pvd swiss diver with sapphire, and my waffle dial isl still has it beat with bevelled sapphire, weight, and strap. Ill bet Marc has black divers already in testing phase.

Great looking watches...but I would NEVER spend $600+ for them. $350-400 max maybe? I don't know...I feel like I don't want to even spend that much on them. Is it only me that thinks this way?
