This isn't a left vs right wing issue, just an ignorant moron issue. And even if we made that argument, historically it's pretty much always been conservatives trying to ban the EVIL MUSIC, or the VIDEO GAMES BAD MAKE CHILDREN VIOLENT and like fifty other things.
@Holly B. Do you really think there are no conservatives that agree with this? Not only do they exist, but they probably are the vast majority. The left and the right have always passed the ball to each other when it comes to blaming video games, porn or whatever for political, religious and "moral" reasons, but if you really want to compare both sides, the right beats the left by a landslide. It's always been like this.
My friend punched a Karen who lost her mind over his "Oppai" mask and tried to attack him for it. Naturally, the Karen made a scene and everyone within earshot witnessed the entire scenario. Rather than get thrown out or arrested, he got a standing ovation for having the balls to put the bitch in her place! Virtue signaling is the most racist, sexist, and offensive ideology in existence. They claim to be fighting for another, but their actions prove that they are just looking for attention. They are outright admitting "(insert group) is too stupid and helpless to do anything themselves, so I'm going to (insert action) because it makes me look good! If you think I'm wrong, then you're a (insert "ist")!" Think about it: lowering the quality standards of education and careers because (insert group) is too stupid to qualify on their own merit. That sounds pretty offensive to me! Even worse is when they try to use women and children as shields to enforce their agenda, both figuratively and literally. This PC cancel cult has no place in the civilized world and must be chased out before it gets even worse. If it isn't, then Karens and Kevins are going to grow too powerful to stop with reason and logic, forcing people to use violence to purge them and their simps from society. Manga/anime has taught me a lot of values that are lost in western entertainment. In this current hostile climate, Japanese entertainment is so refreshing because it doesn't lecture on politics or virtue signalling. That is likely why it has become more popular internationally than ever.
it's fascinating to see how reactionary the anime community has become over the last few years, driven partly by misguided SJW's and partly by increased reach of fairly conservative authors
Australia’s always been heavy on censorship, and it isn’t the first time this has happened. The old PS2 game Manhunt was banned there, and a few other games as well.
It seems every day that we're getting closer to a future where anime and manga no longer exist. It just makes your heart hurt, lads. They'd kill an art form disguising it as law.
Whoa, Kinokuniya...there are Kinokuniya bookstores here where I live and I've shopped there multiple times. I love it there. Yep, there are Kinokuniya stores outside of Japan.
I can just imagine what a government psa against manga would be like. "This is little Timmy, a normal straight A boy. By doing just one manga, we see the effects... Little Timmy... Is now a terrorist."
I get that there are laws and some things that could universally be seen as offensive. Most people probably wouldn't like scat and there are legal issues with copyrights and if something is basically just challenging a nation (for example, a series about assassinating a real life leader that is currently alive). But on the subject of "being offended", that's WAY too damn broad.... I could draw a blue circle and someone could be offended cause it's not a triangle or because it's blue instead of red... I personally think people have gotten too touchy and closed minded. I can see in cases why someone would raise concerns, but there's usually a pretty good counter argument to things, meaning you just have to be open minded and accept others' views. This are honestly issues we have right now with how SJWs and Cancel Culture try to do things. People need to stop trying to force their views down each other's throats and learn that they aren't the only one in this world.
@@Riku-zv5dk if that's the case, it just makes it weirder where they ban one medium differently than the other when it's basically two versions of the same source. Far as I know, anime themed Light Novels could be treated as either books or manga. And the concept of anime is still along the same lines as a movie or cartoon so it should follow TV based procedures right?
@@DarkFrozenDepths There are three classifications of media, Film and Television (includes anime), Videogames, and Publication (which includes manga and light novels). And each classification of media has their own guidelines for classification. This is due to legal definitions and laws around them across the country as well as how the guidelines are decided on, which is all states, territories and the federal government have to agree on. The various guidelines, and the ratings they provide, have to take into account all the laws of the above parties as broadly as possible, while also not restricting media as much as possible as well.
@@DarkFrozenDepths True people are being to sensitive nowadays... I'm surprised no one is complaining about Theatrr acting since they also have a harsh environment at times...

I agree that Kinokinyu is between a rock in a hard place. From a quick search in Google, Australian law is based off common law, similar to that used in the UK and US. This means that laws are always being interpreted based off new rulings in the courts of law. Most of the time laws do not change dramatically because previous rulings tend to have a strong precedence, but with particularly old laws or subject matter that has not been regulated, like manga in Australia, it can be a roll of a dice of which way a court decides. Once a court decides that precedent can become very difficult to change. This is why copyright law, at least in the US, is so old and antiquated; No one wants to take it to court and have it ruled in a way that could hurt them. I imagine Kinokinyu received some pressure from politicians like Ms. Bonaros saying that they would bring manga to the courts for review. Rather risk than having a precedent set that would have all manga potentially reviewed or having the seller liable for sales of manga, Kinokinyu caved and removed certain manga. Ms. Bonaros is likely not to go much further, but may target certain manga again when she feels it would be an easy victory. Going to court is not likely her end goal as a ruling could go against her efforts and be politically embarrassing, or create a unintended precedent that could upset other groups.
What this boils down to is politicians are trying change the Classification Law and manga is the scapegoat. As a whole Austrailia's classification system is flawed they have G, PG, MA, MA15, and R. Any age can watch or buy MA or lower while a person under 15 needs to be accompanied by their parent or adult guardian to watch or buy MA15. This MA15 is problematic so what they want to do is merge MA15 with MA and add a PG12 or 13 rating. To note this system is 25 years old and times have changed. Rating definitions: www.classification.gov.au/classification-ratings/what-do-ratings-mean Submission change see bullets 3 and 4: igea.net/2020/03/submission-to-the-australian-government-review-of-australian-classification-regulation/
Government is banning and censoring media in Australia? It honestly confuses me when a county claims to be "free" but has state censorship, which is what countries like China do. The difference is only in degrees, but not in principle. You're not allowed to publish or buy anything tha the government doesn't like.
Australia is more "soft authoritarian " than it is a democracy...certainly not a republic....theyve been banning/censoring stuff of all kinds for decades.
Australian Law on Classification of Materials has diverged from UK Law (which it's based upon) in the past 20 years to be *deliberately* difficult to navigate. Now from a basic standpoint., there is *ZERO* Requirement for Classification for any Media *unless* it is to be Syndicated for Public Broadcast. So a Direct-to-Video OVA for example., actually is not legally required to be submitted to the Classification Board. Yet, in practise a Retailer strictly speaking can't get away with this because of other Legislation on Variance of Taxation Cases. What I mean by that is, what is brought in is specific Media is Taxed Differently depending upon it's Country of Origin, Format, etc. And the only approach that the Government accepts as "Valid" Classification, is via the Classification Board. As such, they don't have to change the Law... instead they're adding what on the surface might seem "Unrelated" that is effectively making it illegal to not have to go through Classification. They did this with Video Games a while back., because they wanted to be able to crack down on them; so they brought in a Special Taxation Rule., where-in if you didn't go through the Classification Board, they'd just assume a Premium Taxation for "Unknown Media"; doing so still increased the VAT,. which was ridiculous hence why Australian Games are so ridiculously expensive with the claim that it was to cover the costs of the need for Classification... but they don't cover that cost for you, you still pay the $2,500 - 5,000 for the Submission and Classification Process. And as a further note,. as the Australian Classification Board (unlike most other Countries) is actually part of the Government., the Parliament itself can simply chose to deny / override any decisions on Classification Made. To effective Ban said Game. What they're likely doing is something similar to attempt to Ban Manga, Anime and Light Novels... where-as again under the Core Laws that this is all based upon (UK Law), there is ZERO obligation from the Distributor / Retailer to submit for Classification; it's entirely optional, but as a note Classification *does* come with legal protections.
Very much doubt they would be selling anything that would obviously be illegal here so they shouldn't realistically be in danger. They may have allowed themselves to be intimidated sufficiently by the idea to pull the material though? The sorts of people who prey on this sort of thing typically rely heavily on intimidation.

Even if they did ban anime, we'll find a way to bring it back and no one can stop us

Whoa, Kinokuniya...there are Kinokuniya bookstores here where I live and I've shopped there multiple times. I love it there. Yep, there are Kinokuniya stores outside of Japan.
Really? What country are you in?
They aren't taking anime/manga/LNs from us, they're just taking the ways to support the creators.
I can just imagine what a government psa against manga would be like. "This is little Timmy, a normal straight A boy. By doing just one manga, we see the effects... Little Timmy... Is now a terrorist."
Its always a terrorist am I right?

@@Riku-zv5dk Let's not forget that Comic are also similar if not the same as manga...

sadly over here in Aus the law changes very quietly sometimes, it's stupid, so I'm not sure if it has or not for manga classification however i know most books do need classification since the 50 shades of grey issue
Ikr, it gets so annoying. You always have to search shit up so you know you aren't doing something illegal :/

We must support our Australian brethren in this situation.

Kinokuniya is a major Japanese bookstore here in NYC. They carry tons of anime

Politician: i want to ban anime

Government is banning and censoring media in Australia? It honestly confuses me when a county claims to be "free" but has state censorship, which is what countries like China do. The difference is only in degrees, but not in principle. You're not allowed to publish or buy anything tha the government doesn't like.
Australia is more "soft authoritarian " than it is a democracy...certainly not a republic....theyve been banning/censoring stuff of all kinds for decades.
Guns, video games, anime......basically anything karens dont like.....
Believe me we will find a way

Very much doubt they would be selling anything that would obviously be illegal here so they shouldn't realistically be in danger. They may have allowed themselves to be intimidated sufficiently by the idea to pull the material though? The sorts of people who prey on this sort of thing typically rely heavily on intimidation.
