    I watched the IGN review and read in the comments about your much more detailed review.
    It's great to find a reviewer who isn't jaded like the folks who work at IGN.

      KirKanos08 IGN hires people who went to school for journalism but couldn't get hired at their local news station so they took jobs where they look at games. They don't give a fuck.

      IGN reviews suck, plain and simple. I stopped watching their crap a long time ago. And I noticed their review for this game is only 3 minutes and 28 seconds long! Are you kidding me!? That's it??? How can you cover ANY game in that short amount of time?!

      THANKS FOR SHARING THIS VID! He definitely died (Beholder obliterated him). He also did a complete playthrough series, wonderful. OMG the Dungeon Master Mode and the possibility to share and play other ppl campaigns sound like LOTS OF FUN.... HOW IS IT THAT I ONLY HEAR OF THIS GAME NOW (2017)?! I love D&D, I play on Roll20 every week, I watch Critical Roll and Harmon Quest, and I read RPGWatch and RPGCodex EVERY DAY! How is it possible I only hear of this game until today? They didn't do like much publicity? I want to cry for having missed this awesome game fr such a long time... does anybody at all plays it still today? I'd love to try the DMMode & Multiplayer custom campaigns... DO U GUYS THINK I SHOULD TOTALLY GET IT?! 0_o

      totally! ign reviews are so shallow and seem like they are done by non-gamers
      ACGs are so well done i watch them just for fun even if the games do not interest me

    I find it funny how publishers keep saying no one is interested in RPG's like this. That top down is dead and people want real time action RPG's ala Dragon Age 2 and such. Yet multiple dev's have proven already that enough gamers want RPG's from a top down view, with depth and that fighting doesn't have to be real time action. I couldn't be more happy to see some amazing RPG's comming out that stick to the old school style. This will be another sure purchase for me once i have the money for it.

    As a longtime Forgotten Realms fan, this game is AMAZING and filled me with the same sense wonderment and storytelling that I got when playing Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights for the first time. The developers have such a keen feel for the lore, fans like me are instantly sucked back into the world. And best yet: the big man, Helm, God of Guardians, is back and headlining games again like he should be! Anyways, I really enjoyed your review and will be subscribing.

    Good, honest review. I am a veteran of tabletop D&D and a lifelong Forgotten Realms fanatic (Currently reading book 2 of Salvatore's "Neverwinter" trilogy, for the 3rd readthrough of the series). I am not sure if you're familiar with the decades of back-story, but I wish you had touched on the lore and integration into the FR metaplot a little bit. I want to play this strictly for the singleplayer and easter eggs, but am REALLY curious as to how much it weaves into the FR universe. Other than that, you've convinced me to purchase it, once I finish Pillars of Eternity: The White March I
    Thanks broseph!

    Fantastic review, ACG. You often talk a bit too fast for my liking, but you really do pack a LOT of useful info on the game, and are very articulate and very organized in your thoughts. I just didnt like the G2A link in the description since some very negative things about the company have come up recently -- but this review was awhile back, so I can't fault you for that:) thanks for the review.

      +RogerioMartins87 The story campaign is very good, so I'd definitely say yes. And new official campaigns will soon be released. You can also play community made modules/campaigns in single player mode with your own character, and you can include the companions from the story campaign in your party.

      +RogerioMartins87 Depends on what you are looking for. And have you played Pillars, Wasteland 2, Divinity: OS or Grimrock 2?

    • @Rogerio_FM
      @Rogerio_FM 9 років тому +1

      Hey, yes, except for Grimrock 1 or 2. I'm not exactly expecting Planescape Torment deep, but if it's fun as Divinity, it's enough.

    • @cordia96

      RogerioMartins87 Well, Divinty offered you multible solutions to problems. Like Stealth, including that funny bush to hide in. You could interact with the enviroment, physics based. Not just a stats porn.
      But I'll wait for more reviews and Gameplay vids

      I thought long and hard about buying it yesterday and finally decided to pick it up. I just barely started my journey into the novels of the Forgotten Realms through Ed Greenwood and R. A. Salvatore (and I did play the Baldur's Gate games in the past) so I have some familiarity here. It is very interesting to me and I like it more because of my interest in Forgotten Realms. It makes me very forgiving. I'm excited for a good $10 RPG!

    Great review! Nicely divided into the important aspects of the game. How is the replay-ability value for the single player campaign? A great thing about RPGs is having the ability to adopt different choices which affect the story...any of this present?

      *****
      The books were always expensive, sadly. At least I remember it that they were pricey at the time. But it was all worth it when you got a great DM and a good group together and had the adventures that you will remember, as corny as that sounds. It was far more personal than any kind of video game I've ever played.

      or the Starter Set for like $12. It comes with an adventure that's about 20 hours. (Still going to want the free basic rules PDF)
      Then you can find people to play with through Wizards store finder or facebook groups. or reddit's /r/LFG.

      +Mr Andy I would. Lots of people didn't check into the title during its development and though it was something it wasn't. The information and previews point out exactly what it is but it won't stop people from shitting their pants when their unrealistic expectations aren't met exactly. And this is from someone who didn't like parts of the game hahaha

    Excellent eye opening review AngryCentaurGaming. I was going to bypass this game completely and it only caught my eye because my friend has it on his wish list. Glad i checked out your review. Love the ingame creation setup with the dungeon master design ability without having to go into a external editor. Fallout 4 is doing a similar thing with its ingame crafting system though not as indepth with creature placement etc.
    This looks to be the Neverwinter Nights of this generation. Here is hoping its the start of new rpg dynasty like The Elder Scrolls etc.

    Thank you for the review. I have been on the fence about getting this game for a long while now and that's due to the fact that the steam user reviews are so mixed and varied. Good review on multiplayer and bad on single. Good review on single and bad on multiplayer. Many "Don't Recommend" ratings on this game due to the fact that they say its way to easy and just a click fest. Very poor DM creations and limited resource distribution. I have never seen a game so split down the middle of good and bad. This review seems to be the most thorough, intelligent, and unbiased. This review seemed to actually care about the bad as well as the good. I guess the best way for one to give a verdict is to try it yourself. I will buy this game. For those in the comments below stating this is like Divinity, Wasteland, Pillers, and the like then I am really excited. Those games are excellent master pieces. I am primarily single player myself so I hope it coincides. Thank you.

    Coming from baldur's gate and icewind dale, how did you feel with the party size being only 4? Also, can you use player created characters for each party slot or you only create the main character? And are there NPC companions, does any of them have a mouse as a pet?

      I got to meet Jim Cummings a few months back and he was kind enough to scream loud as shit "Go for the eyes Boo, Go for the eyes!!!". Really wanted to meet him cause of his work with childhood Disney cartoons, but soon found out bout all his work on games I've loved just as long. dude was super cool. Not sure if he was talking bout this game or not but he said he'd been working on something Baulders Gate related, so I'd expect to meet up w Minsc at some point in the next year or two... or even in that game, dunno, haven't played it yet.

    I like these kind of pause the action set up strategy rpg games (dragon age, pillars, divinity) but I don't want to buy a game that's really aimed towards multi player. I hear there is a single player mode but does anyone know if the multi game community is any good. Im an old man, and my friends wont play this stuff. can you set up a quick game with random people pretty easy? or at least communicate with others and set up games easily, or are the forums bare and almost impossible to set up games if you don't know anyone?

That being said my largest concern is that when it gets ported over I hope it maintains the pliability and features of the PC version. +AngryCentaurGaming I ended up getting it before friday. I must say, when I first started, buyers remorse reared it's malformed head. I found the beginning to be super generic and a bit boring. So I quit and tried one of the quick dungeons. I made sure to choose one with a DM, and wow it was magical. the DM was awesome, he voiced all the npc's and came up with cheesy yet fun little stories. It truly was a wonderful experience. So yes I'm liking it.

    Hmm, OP says they love it and buy it. Another post release review I just watched says it's full of bugs and dont buy it (e.g. pathfinding, lack of control of summoned companions, massive cpu and gpu spikes, unable to connect for the multiplayer). Who to believe?

      +Ironbuket Other than the CPU and GPU spokes and the multiplayer issue(Mine was fine). And other than the pathfinding. I would say we agree on everything else LOL. Which is one thing. You can't control summoned companions. Which I didn't care about at all. But others may.

    I found the story to be well written, the voice acting to be fantastic, and the graphics to be acceptable. Unfortunately there was much left to be desired..skill trees, wizard spell progression, inability to access all parts of the realms and monsters when creating a module, shared inventories (when playing story campaign) and the basic overall customization we've come to expect from any rpg especially something from D&D (ex: my ranger started out proficient in all forms of melee weaponry (wasn't able to specialize any further) I was only able to choose one "favored enemy" , and limited sub-races to name a few issues)

    I really liked your review, but I would have enjoyed it more if you slowed it down a bit. I felt like I had my Speed on 1.25. Your actual talking speed was just a tiny bit too fast, but I'm not sure if you edited sound clips together or you talked a bullet point at a time, but there was next to no pausing for transition. Just like a 1-2 second pause when you are transitioning from one bullet point to the next would be awesome.

    I think the point of being a DM is to create memorable adventures for your players rather than try as much as possible to kill them off. It seems like the game is encouraging a DM vs. Players model instead of a DM + Players one, which IMHO is a bad idea.

    This doesn't look like it has the customization of other D&D based games. I've played through NWN2 countless times just to experience it with different races/classes/builds etc. I don't get the feel I'd be able to do that in this. Can't see myself spending money on it for this reason.

  • @hemangchauhan2864
    @hemangchauhan2864 9 років тому

    I'm interested in these types of games (RPG shenanigans, isometric world). I was always fascinated by games like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights and hearing about how great they are. But I was completely turned off by Baldur's Gate II and (somewhat) Planescape Torment. There was just *too* much text to go through, and required so much engagement that, I just gave up after about two hours in BG2 and three in PT.
    I'm quite used to single player action rpgs (Skyrim, Witcher, Dragon Age etc.), but also JRPGs(a lot of them). And I've never played the actual DnD.
    Will this game(Sword Coast Legends) be somewhat beginner friendly like me?

    • @ilthraldren
      @ilthraldren 9 років тому +1

      +Hemang Chauhan I havnt played this game, but from what ive seen it looks to be more light weighted in regards to the text, so it probably might be pretty good for you. Those games you mentioned such as baldur's gate 2 and Torment Planescape are amazing games, but it might be hard to get into them because they are quite dated now, but if you ever come across new games like them in the future, maybe try and give them a go, or maybe give baldur's gate and torment another go in the future some time, or maybe even give Neverwinter Nights 2 a go. Personally they are some of the best stories I've experienced in gaming, though if reading a lot turns you off or you dont find it fun, then it might just not be fore you. You also may want to try Witcher 3 if you have a rig that can run it ok enough, its open world like skyrim, but, in my opinion, has a far better story that its quite deep and involved but its voice acted and you wont need to do a tone of reading.

    Thing is about this game is that it's a let down to those who wanted the actual D&D experience. The technology is there to be able to make game as the D&D mechanics. I myself was only in for the game for that aspect, but what I think caused the game its total hype was the vagueness the creators left to whether or not there would be a tabletop feel to the game (or a separate mode to make it as such), and if they made a statement related towards that then I guess I and several others never heard it.

    • @2tm1k34

    to be honest I'm into this kind of games back in the day (Baldurs gate Never winter Nights series Dungeon siege series those type of D&D games) but back in day If these games have the skyrim/witcher/ dragon age series game mechanics or type of gamplay it would be more immersive but those are the limitation of technology back in the day... Now.... I played dragon age inquisition, witcher 3 and I just picked up divinity OS last night and it didn't have the magic like I used to love about the old D&D games maybe because the games of today like witcher 3 skyrim are better games and more immersive. I have some friends who won't stop whining about how the old games are way better than today of course that's how they remember it when they were kids.... would you appreciate your black & white TV over your 4k TV? so my point is I just learned how to appreciate what the present has to offer and kept my memories behind at to look at the future of gaming.
