    A major factor of the comedy for me is how earnestly this song is performed. And it’s actually a nice little song! Amazing talents all around wrapped up in a sweet small-town musical play. 💖

    1) Michael Hitchcock is incredibly funny
    2) I love that the role of the WW1 soldier is obviously meant to go to a young, strapping man (i.e. Johnny before he dropped out of the production) and Corky assumes it in his place

      Loved Hitchcock screaming "CORKY!!" at the end. :)
      Really enjoyed Matt Keeslar (Johnny) in "The Middleman". Glad that Brian Ward of Shout!Factory suggested it to me a few years ago as I'd never seen or heard of the show, before.

He has Stool Boom and Nothing Ever Happens on Mars pretty well down. But they’re just figuring it all out by ear. It would be a real treasure if you could post those!

    Can someone who's familiar with theater blocking explain to me what's so wrong with these movements? To my uneducated self, the only parts that really looked out of place were the swaying at the beginning, and that totally bizarre way they curled up at the end.

    • @daughterofolaf
      @daughterofolaf 2 роки тому +3

      I have been a stage manager for 15 years. I don’t honestly know that the blocking here is particularly terrible. I have never watched this and thought “omg, the blocking!” Most of the positions they take are done so they can do their ridiculous high kicks and other dance moves and move around the stage. Is any of it necessary? No. Is any of it natural? No. But the blocking isn’t any more silly than the song and performance itself, in my opinion. The strangest thing about the scene is them walking in place in the beginning. 🤣 I have never ever seen anyone do that in a play.

    • @tracystuart4266

      basically the first thing you're taught in drama is to move on your line. You're not supposed to move, then speak. You should be doing both at the same time. So the way Parker is taking these huge strides across the stage, then speaking, then doing it again in the opposite direction is so hilariously awkward if you've ever been in a play and been told repeatedly to NOT do that.
