I went to college from 1970-1974 and I paid for my education working a part time job @ $1.65/hour. I graduated on time with honors and loan-free. Our nation is an embarrassment.

VoteGreen Exactly. And a shambles. Employers also refuse to provide OJT and then demean all of us as "unqualified." Equation of doom.

VoteGreen I agree and it sounds like it was easier to pay for collage back then. I think we should have the same or similar to Germany they go to college free I know someone who went to Germany for collage and worked part time living with a host family. We should have it here in the US instead of putting people in debt because they choose an education. I went to a 4 year university had to get grants & scholarships otherwise couldn't afford it went 01-05 .

I'm shocked at the lengths young Americans have to go too just to receive a third level Education. Something I and my peers took for granted - as many Students, all over Europe, still do today!

Our corporations import educated employees, especially in the tech industry, not because they are less expensive but because our own children are not well enough educated. My sons rarely work with other Americans. Why?

Thank you Bernie for taking this issue very seriously and into account as I am in deep debt and I am don't even have a Bachelor's Degree yet. I can't afford college education, so I need tuition free public college.

Becky Alexander My kids are not burdened with debt because none of them will go to college because they've seen me try to pay back loans as a single mother of three.

Mat As a single mother of 3 I understand perfectly. I never let them know about my own debt just as I will never let them know about my current financial situation.

It breaks my heart watching him fight for what we need only to be attacked adhominems. Who comes close to Bernie Sanders in the last 70 years? What politician has been as principaled as Bernie? Hell, which one has been on the forefront for minority rights, LGBT rights, etc? Yet he wakes up every day and fights. I hope we see him in the oval office. He's a rare breed of humans that we need more of.

i like how in the photo Bernie stands in the back, to a degree i think its symbolic. in showing he'd put other people first. most other politicians would insist on being front and center in the photo so they got all the attention.

I’m a very emotional guy and this... we need Bernie because we are human just like everyone else.. we need free education because I’m trying to get Ged or Diploma in college so I can fix my life back and find something to do. And It’s cost to much money for it...... that why we need free education in our country..... And I’m very upset.

Here bernie shows real character and shows that he is for the American people , and I think this is why he collects great and deserved respect and support from the kids of tomorrow :D

If 53 now and disabled trying to get on SSDI. I have a college degree and the cost of that paper is currently saying I owe $110,000! I did not borrow anywhere near this much and I've paid on my student loan whenever I could. Twice I gave up my home and lived in a corner at my ex-husband's house to pay the amounts they wanted me to pay every month. I've spent ten years of my life working two full-time jobs at one time and of course the rest at a 50 hour a week job trying to take care of myself and three kids, became a single mother, while trying to pay back student loans. I had to quit school right after I got my B.S. When my goal was a M.D.or PhD researcher. Not much to do with a degree in biology. (These were very physical jobs where you also needed a brain and that's why I'm disabled now.)

Why don’t US kids apply to study in countries like Germany, France and Netherland? Just learn another language.

    • @Kehwanna

The fact that it is cheaper to fly from America to Germany, get a place to stay (with stipends included) and study at their schools until you receive your degree would be cheaper than just a year's worth of books at a U.S university is ridiculous. Though, not all German schools are free. My Caucasian half of the family all live in Germany, and a few of my cousins had to pay at tuition around...$500. Meanwhile, when I was in college in the U.S it cost me $34,000 a year + books + mandatory fees. It wasn't till after the fact I found out that I have a German citizenship from my father, so I could have just easily saved myself $100,000 of debt.

  • @Kehwanna
    @Kehwanna 6 років тому

The average student loan debt is projected to be around $200,000 somewhere in the late 2020s or early 2030s, and that is not adjusted to inflation either.

Everyone I know firmly believes the reason college costs so much is that the dean, coaches and administration are paid too well and the dorms are too nice. This belief is pervasive.

Obvious question being why are schools gouging Americans? Is it because they know people are desperate to find a way to actually make a reasonable living and college has been programmed into us as the only way for that to happen. Should it cost 45K a year for that? Why do they have the teachers acting out the same stuff over and over again for new groups of students when it could be on video. Do it once instead of 300 times a year or whatever. Then have a teacher come in at the end of the video and take questions, which would probably take like 10 minutes. It's a big scam.
And ask yourself this, if college entry is merit based then why is the Jewish population so over represented in the college population? And why do their parents always seem to coincidentally have donated large sums to those schools previous to that entry? What chance does John Smith have when Schlomo Von Jewstein has the fix in? Just ask Jared Kushner. Facts, not antisemitism or whatever certain people would try to make my words out to be. Do the research, ask Jared.
