Watching your channel, particularly about the Africa Twin is what convinced me to buy one. Got just on 1000K's on it now in 3 weeks and I can't believe how awesome it is. I left behind my beloved HD Street Glide, which was an awesome tourer but just too precious for the types of roads I ride. Now everytime anyone asks me about the twin, I link them to your channel for more convincing. Thanks very much!
That’s good to know, Phil! Thank you 🙏
He's reason I bought mine too Phil. That bloody Scotland trip he did tipped me over the edge. My Mrs is well pissed with him! Lol
LOL! I'll probably get another one before riding season starts. I blame Richey as well! My 2017 had DCT, which I loved in heavy traffic, but prefer a clutch for slow speed manuvering and ease of lofting the front. Which one did you go with?
Well done for getting down there in one piece Richy, you and the bike. On the topic of Scotland, I'm planning on heading up there in just under three weeks and I'm crossing everything that it will happen. At the moment my area of the country (Lincoln) is okay and the Scottish border is still open; hotels are all booked and route planned. Many thanks for this video; cheers and ride safe, Andy.
Well done Richy. Top effort with the added pressure of it not being your steed. Honda uk have had there payday right there. 👏👏👏👍👍👍
Fair Play Richy ! My heart was in my mouth watching that ! Ive been in those situations myself(Although not as bad as that !) where you end up on a nightmare track and not knowing if your heading into something you can't get out of !, but hats off, you pushed through it !!
That was brilliant!
Felt like i was watching myself😬
At least you kept the big AT upright, the gopro really doesn't show how hard it is!
We plan on returning to pindale on our new crf250's in the near future😬
Thanks for the mention, it means alot to a small channel like ours👍
Really glad you enjoyed it, definitely wakes you up 😜
Thank you for the recommendation!
Hats of to you Rich on this one... more balls than I'd ever have at 15:00 mins I'd be petrified on the Bonnie down there! Great video mate really enjoyed this one..
Lineage. The SuperCub is a legendary, bulletproof, dead-nutz reliable, practical and simple machine. And new ones hit it out of the park by adding sharp styling. That all adds up to "mega!" ;)
Blimey, that was tense!
Brilliant on a mountain bike.
Who ever sent you down there on the AT was being cruel or after a laugh.
But top marks for doing it on a AF well done because I know the ride.
Stunning scenery in your neck of the woods and fair play on the off road stuff. More suitable tyres might have helped. I can only dream of getting up in the morning and going for a ride like that as I live on an island 5 miles by 9 miles and with the current quarantine rules (like you) I'm deterred from getting on the ferry (should have been in France the weekend just gone). I have got in similar sticky situations on my GS1200 on my own. Again not dropped it but more luck than judgement. Keep em coming Richy 👍
That made me chuckle. It reminded me of a skiing holiday years ago. A black run to the left. A red run to the right, from a hotel halfway up the mountain, and we were still drunk from the night before. We got down, but it wasn't in a composed manner! There was a cable car but, well, pride somehow got in the way of common sense and we were young.
As for the Cub, my father bought a C50 in 1974 when a fuel shortage seemed possible. I loved riding it and took it off road on many occasions. It soaked the terrain up without any problems.
It's the only bike I've ridden with anti-dive front forks. When you pulled the front break leaver, the handlebars went up. Happy memories of one of the most fun bikes I've ever thrown a leg over.
Reminds me of your adventure in the Pico's the other year when you all had to turn round. Some people commented about using the drone to "look ahead" er hem ;) Well done for staying upright that really was tricky :)
Hey, great vid. If you came down that on the 4th Oct, we missed you by an hour tops! It is an awful lot steeper than it lools abd defo a handful on an adventure bike... especially someone elses!!
V-stroms suffers off road against the AT. Most notable difference is the AT's 21" front wheel.
I was gripped, hoping you didn't drop it the bike has a beautiful colour scheme.Very enjoyable vid,Cheers.
Looking for and watching everything Africa Twin. Obviously missed out on this one earlier. Great music (starting at around 12m36s in) and an awesome bike. What's not to love? 👌
Braver than me big boy. Might have tried it with someone else with me but def not on my jack.
Great vid bud, brought back some cracking memories of our wee run out up there with you. Offroad - Poke it! 😉😂👍
@7:45, do you ever do the other lane near there, through the gates opposite Chatsworth House (where the church is), up to the top, left on Handley Lane, then as you come down the hill there's a sharpish left bend with a trail on the right, takes you down to Baslow Road.
Very nice trail - especially in the opposite direction, so you come down into Chatsworth Estate / Edensor.
I don’t believe have, Wayne! Thanks for that.
As I get older I'm starting to look to smaller bikes, 250s, 400s that I don't feel are too heavy. Well done mate. That looked a gnarly little track. I'd have dropped it and been puffing and panting a lot more than you.
I'll stick to my 701. I'll try it on someone else's AT. But can't promise an unscathed ride.
Then you end at G station, best watering hole on the planet.
Well done richly a good morning work out beats the gym any day
Wow, for a minute I thought you had added Gaz and his heavy breathing as a voice over 😂 All that before breakfast. 👍🏻 was good to meet you again. Thank you to you and all the others at breakfast for making us both feel welcome. 👍🏻💙💙
Interesting video and comments. Firstly it's called Pindale Lane. On big adventure bikes airing down isn't always the solution, especially on loose stuff like that. You'd have felt better standing, use the engine brake with a little trailing rear brake. Most importantly realax especially on the bars, let the front wheel find it's own track. Pat on the back for giving it a go, but shoul not of done it along.
Wise words sir. I went down it on my AT about an hour after him and thats how I did it. I'm a novice under instruction I should add and that is what I was being told.
Always good to test yourself.... Done the same thing on my old V-Strom 650 and thought.... Well I've made it.... And didn't drop her. Still needed a cuppa and a rest to get over it 😂
Great video 👍
The trouble with testing all the bikes is the VFR gets left out !( nice problem to have I imagine)🤩
Thank you for including the drama. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who sh*ts himself on dodgy terrain.😃👍
Was Gaz on his S1000XR when he dropped it on that bit of off-road? Glad it wasn't damaged. Love that bike.
On the Vstroms, as I said haha
My old Honda 70 was brilliant . I used to thrash it to death which meant I had to put some rings in it a couple of times but it was fun to go to work on in the winter.
Hindsight’s a wonderful thing blah blah, but did you research what Mr Keep It Wheel rides currently? CRF250 Rally, and his mate has aCRF250L. Other basic consideration apart from checking out on OS Maps, was riding alone. If you had had an off, you could have been pinned underneath the AT waiting for the wolves of the Peak District to feast on your decaying skeleton. At least Gaz or Egan could have taken pics of the disaster !
Haha
Richy watched us doing it on our Africa Twins and still decided to do it😬 We will be revisiting very soon on the crf250's😉
Nice video Richy. Good to see you are happy to say you were worried about that one. Ride safe.
What impressed me was the way the dct coped with the slow ride over the rocks, unreal !
The other reason you were probably panicking is that there are lots of phone reception black spots in the peaks and that looked like one of them, No phoning for assistance if you had dropped it
Maybe take some sos flares to fire up next time just in case !
Mikey, DCT all the way!
Cracking mate, but I reckon I'd rather do it on my 1960 MOT failed, 5 quid "step through" Mobylette with my Dad watching, with the ultimate safety of my flame painted open face lid, with an assuring 3mm of high quality "cushion foam" loosely stuffed in it, rather than on the Twin 🤣👀.. Gripping vid Rich 👍
🤘🤩 Bravo bravissimo, Mr. RichyVida.
Nah. not for me......
Well out of his comfort zone. Back tire should have had 12- 14 psi. Front tire 12 psi max. Richy is far to heavy for that sort or bike riding. My eldest son would have made mince meat out of the section. But then he was Ulster and Ireland school boy champion at MX.
🤦♂️
Tyre pressures young Richard. 👍👍 road pressures and off road are 2 totally different things. I carry a small pump in my back pack. Pump back up when you hit the roads. 👍🙂😉
RichyVida Everyday’s a school day mate🤔🤘😎
I’d have fancied it on my KT250. Decent trials section (uphill) that.
Great watch ! I used to do the lanes on a KTM200 not a big beast like that ! Respect. You could tell with the hyperventilation its not going good. Like you say don't fixate ! Its hard not to ! It's all part of the enjoyment though ! I agree with the tyre pressure comments ! Keep them coming. Thanks for sharing
oh wow i have not been there since 1996. this gave me massive nostalgia and a little man cry. thank you. I was there on XR400R and it ate that pass and asked for seconds. :P
Your bike roars like a lion!
Good video Richy. If that was me I would have fallen off a few times.
Well done thats way past my comfort zone ,those big rocks and loose gravel just changes every thing .take care ride safe
Glad you got through that unscathed, I think if you had a manual box you would feel more in control. I had the NC750 DCT and never really felt in full control, especially on the gnarly stuff. Great commuter
I know exactly how you feel about the cub. Like you, I cut my teeth on these bikes as a small kid (9 when I got my first one) and me & my mates would rag em around the woods and fields. Not rode one of the new ones yet, but I am tempted
Bloody hell pal, my bum was twitching and I wasn’t even riding the trail! 😬
Well done that looked challenging
Lower pressures in tyres would have helped. Road pressures make the wheel skip over the rocks making it feel unstable. Lower pressures absorb that instability.
Think the rocks are bigger than they appear on the video Joe, might end up bending a rim :/
@19:20 - NOO, don't go in there, that's the quarry and is an SSSI :o
🤭
That looked sketchy , we should had done that with Bruce ... seriously though , kudos on those tyres
Quite a challenge, you need to try again on a Royal Enfield Himalayan, anyhow , well done, I fell off my G S on our driveway.
I think I would rather do a track day at Cadwell...than tackle that route Richy... Awesome viewing and commentary... edge of the seat stuff... stay safe...
Think you need to keep a respirator handy if you do this pass again
Next ride out for fish and chips will be down that road then. Better warn the sports bike and cruiser owners first this time lol
Haha I’m not that cruel!
Your earned your breakfast there Richy! Well done!
One thing I’ve never done is off-roading ! Definitely need to give it a try!
Enjoyed watching that. I thought you were going down for a minute. Well ridden! 👍
like your jacket
your video's are such a joy Richy,GOD Bless..
Before you go out next time Rich you want to watch a few Graham Jarvis or Colton Haaker Videos. Loved the Twin in its environment here fella. Give it another bash fella Love it.
Looked awesome pal. 👏🏻 definitely needs to be added to the route on the next chippy run 😉🤪👍🏻🏍💨👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Learnt to ride on the original cubs
Brilliant video Richy nice one . I had a c70 back in the 80s cracking little bike . Well done for keeping the AT right way up . Will the African Twin go back??
It's funny how the marketing for these bikes makes it look so easy, but this video shows the reality. 600cc thumper (KTM640Adv) is/was great for riding to lanes and getting through them. The AT is a great bike, but stopping to adjust the riding mode just shows the level of complexity manufacturers have built in for themselves.
Not sure Nick, think its because its on his own. I have the same bike and it romps up technical stuff like its not there and that's testiment to the bike not me. The DCT is like an anti gravity switch, it just goes up unbelievably steep rocky inclines without any fuss.
@@MrImarcus , didn't know that, thanks for the info. Happy riding!
I've got cub in my garage been two years since my last ride on it got me back into riding bikes again 5 years ago have Frazer now
Really enjoyed that. Especially after chatting with you about it, you can see how much it was twitching on the way down there. Did TheCrumble once ride up that in one of his videos?
Crumble went down it too.
@@LordBilious Sounds like it's a rights of passage for all Africa Twin owners 😆
You need to get the Super Cub down there now @richyvida. Show us what it can do
@@PaintNationCustomPaintwork I do think Rich needs to ride UP it, before the AT goes back😉
just found this one richie, this road always makes me laugh with the no hgv sign
That looked awesome. Reminded me when we wo kids adventuring round the old pit top on the old Kingsley drift at Fitzwilliam.
That’s why non genuine GoPro mounts worry me, I use a lanyard or cable ties etc for peace of mind where possible.
well done for pindale on such a beast, Now its very easy to ride more grip,
Is it still passable? 🤔
@@RichyVida Your skill level very easy now its changed a lot now. Climb from the bottom its great fun ......
I also think that the fact that it’s not your own property effect how you rode the off road part.
my thoughts entirely, my worst nightmare is sittin on someone elses bike never mind riding it down that!!
Started my riding on enduro, Interesting you did motocross , did a bit of racing and pretty some pretty extreme stuff, makes you a much better road rider, a loose back end etc just feels recoverable with ease as you do it a dozen times a day off road, I would love a GS or AT as a happy medium but may struggle to remember I'm not on a 450 KTM and that would end in tears.
Good Job Rich, steep and Loose for sure, you need to be a mountain goat on that Track. , still if you were on the cub, you would be laughing all the way to the bottom LOL. The Africa twin is the Bike that wont let you down, so Keep It Wheel and enjoy a Whiskey, well done
good video as normal Rich, what was that music track just over halfway? liked that as well..
Anyone saying that the Africa Twin won off road should watch this. You've earned your bacon butty. Goid effort.
Happy travels
Doesn’t come across on the screen how steep it is. I’m going to give it another go in the opposite direction next ;-)
@@RichyVida if you manage that you can have chips, too! Although I don't live there anymore, I know the area quite well. Perfect Britain, fir me.
Good hunting, sir.
@@RichyVida - agreed - you cannot convey with a camera how steep that track is. The AT will defo romp UP it with some throttle, the DCT is a Honda antigravity device! would defo make sure you are not on your billy next time though pal :)
Just curious whether you had rear wheel ABS turned off. That looked like a proper workout regardless
On your own the big bikes are scary . But with a few friends along they can surprise you wot ya can do. If your wallet doesn’t get to scared of the poss damage to panels
slow constant revs at gear 3 and it eases through
Hey Richie Great Vid mate, loved it by the way the that tank bag from Givi is the xs320 just need an adapter its brill, great video BTW have you ever ridden an MT10??
Sounds like you were blowing abit there Mr Vida 😂 off road is hard work. On going away Please check your travel insurance, if it’s a country that the FCO say you shouldn’t go, then you may not have any cover of any description. I had to cancel my European trip due to this.
Oh, definitely won’t be going abroad. Not a chance.
Great lane as I remember. Used to rip up there on my 640adv.
Reminded me of that January Scotland trip in a different way like you say iff you can’t turn round or drop her it’s dodgy fair play to ya rich 🙏🏍👌
Good going! Would be fun to do that kind of road on the little Honda Hunter Cub 125 (Trail 125).
A bit tense there mate, loosen the shoulders next time, that bike will roll over most of that..
Lol really enjoyed that always good to get out of your comfort zone , well it is If you survive it 😎☝️😂🇬🇧🏍🇬🇧🏍 looking forward to the next one ☝️
Another awesome video buddy. Keep them coming. When is the next super cub 1 coming 👍👍✊✊
I think a manual gearbox in 1st and a dab of rear brake would work better than the DCT down there. Ask Honda for a loan of the CRF250, that'll be a better bike for it- if Mr Fish hasn't already recommended it.
You turned around at that metal gate barrier thingy. There’s one of those featured in a Y Tube film called “Pol Tarres-The Seeker movie” If you watch it you’ll be astonished to see how you should have crossed it!!
Hi when you go down the (6:53) Beeley lane have you ever turned into Edensor village and follow the road through the village and do the loverly lane that takes you up onto Station Rd ???.
Not yet, but been told about it 😀
Come riding in Australia mate and will show you some snotty trails
Would love to. Defo in the list! 👍
Cracking video owd bean 😎
Id have been crapping my pants going down there on my AT. Hats off to you mate, i wouldnt have the bottle to even attempt it! 👍
Think you’d have been better off on that Super Cub!
Nicely presented,thks.JHB-SA
I did this on my 701 enduro for the first time back in July. It's part of the trans European trail isn't it? Love the Peak District and I'm going to try it on my Africa twin next year
A few of us are doing this tomorrow 29/3. Great insight to what to expect. Where did you stop for tea?
Grindleford Station Cafe
@@RichyVida thanks for the reply. Hopefully it may be open
You'll hurt yourself trying to pick an AT up in any situation, it's horrendous in my opinion. Of the big ADV's the GS is the easiest to pick up as TMF demonstrated.
I found at low speed the AT is horrible after you get it anywhere near being off balanced. But it has made me think, if you had the stock bike (not the AS) with nobblies, do you think you'd have been more confident?
The only thing I struggled with is the weight going down hill on loose rocks. I'm going to give it another go soon, but the other way!
@@RichyVida still got that Suzuki? That'd be an interesting comparison.
I’ll not bother on my Harley thank you 👍👍
Tried a bit of off road the day I bought my AT not for the faint hearted 😳
Glad that wasn't one of your famous short cuts, would have been fun on the 10's
Yea not for me either lol. Was twitching watching you lol . Like you said, its the not knowing if you have to turn around. Or the dreaded drop!!! Well done you tho, a great watch
Not sure where the fun is on that bike off road. Don't believe the hype Richy the AT is not an off road bike just like the GS. Loved the music was that you?
The AT is very fun off road. The GS is slower but it is fun as well, if you can ride it.
what experience do have to make that judgement?
What bike should I get if I want to have tons of fun off-road ( dirt bike level of fun) but can still daily the bike on road ( only bike)
My kind of ride out, love it!
