  • In June 2021, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper signed House Bill 130 into law, officially designating the East Coast Greenway as a unit of the North Carolina State Parks system and an official North Carolina State Trail. Following this designation, the East Coast Greenway is eligible for a variety of funding mechanisms and other forms of support for trail planning and construction in North Carolina.
Connecting People to Place: The nonprofit East Coast Greenway Alliance leads the development of a walking and biking route stretching 3,000 miles from Maine to Florida. The East Coast Greenway is designed to transform the 15 states and 450 communities it connects through active and healthy lifestyles, sustainable transportation, community engagement, climate resilience, active tourism, and more. Hopefully now unfinished / unconnected portions of the Greenway in North Carolina will be connected & maintained. Riding on the streets in Wake County is not all that practical. Every bike rider in the state needs the Greenway.
