LOL fair enough! I like to think I only built mine because I'm a cheapskate with a soldering iron but maybe that makes me more gearhead than guitarist. :D
Basically, the Fender Stratocaster electric guitars in general all have the best clean sounds and tones whenever they are not plugged into any type of distortion pedals out there. Whenever I plug in one of my Fender Stratocasters straight to an amp without my pedals, it sounds more beautiful than ever. Your video here is wonderful and it simply goes to show that you do not need any enhancements for your electric guitars such as the distortion or multiple effects pedals of all types that are out there. Playing a Fender Stratocaster or any other types of electric guitars in a straight clean tone is more quieter than ever. I just subscribed to you and all of your videos are creative. All the best to you.
That's a fender squier series guitar from 1990s, it has 500k pots which makes a big difference to its tone. Most normal strata have 250k pots. The 500k pots have a very harsh thin and piercing tone to them that's not to everybody's taste compared to a normal strat. It's a much brighter tone. I have one and changed my pots out to 250k and much prefer it now.
I find it difficult to get all five positions to sound good. Positions 2 and 4 usually need totally different EQ setting on the amp. Is there a way to fix this and what EQ setting do you use for each tone? On the Twin Reverb for Strat I usually set Bass 7, Mid 3, Treble 8, no Bright switch. For 335 Bass 5, Mid 6, Treble 7, with Bright switch on.
Yeah, the out-of-phase positions (2 & 4) will cause a big dip in the midrange response on a Stratocaster, so they don't sound anything like the other positions. One way I deal with this is to dial back the tone control on the neck pickup and move my playing position towards the headstock a bit, that way you can lower the bass and boost the mids on the amp and both the pickup positions are balanced. Usually I prefer just to stick with one pickup position per song, and I like to boost the treble a bit, cut the bass a lot, and boost the upper midrange if I'm using neck or out-of phase positions. Cutting the bass is important because it makes room for other instruments in the mix, like bass or piano, and lets you turn the volume up without sounding muddy. Can't really comment on 335 tone but my les paul needs way different treatment, humbuckers are a totally different beast!
Depends from person to person. I have sweaty hands so I go through a set of elixirs in about 6 months and I cant afford to use non-coateds because I just use them up way too fast. But I have friends who use non-coateds for 3 months and elixirs for a year. So it really just depends on how you use them.
Just a little riff I wrote for the demo. Tried to do something in the style of Khruangbin or Ennio Morricone doing a western soundtrack: ua-cam.com/video/WFfCWdtormg/v-deo.html

Excellent vid
Do you need to have a high action setup for playing such clean tones ?
No lol
Great video...
you look like an all white samurai guitarist.
Great tips. How much time makes strings old?
