In Oakland where it is RAMPANT, police never got defunded during the "defund the police" campaing, so you can stop with that nonsense BS now. Stockton arrested and impounded cars then sold them. Problem solved. Oakland doesn't even respond to calls. They do literally nothings. SF is the same. There is a culture amongst the cops to do nothing about it because they don't want to deal with the confrontation. Easier to pick on skateboarders.

Yes there is but it's not like near as bad as Detroit or NYC. Most of the crimes here involve theft but in NYC u can get shot and many places in the Midwest having bad levels of violent crime. SF does have some violent crime like I heard gunshots behind where I live. The other crime thang happening here is the illicit Fentanyl/Nitazidine pills that are getting the streets and making people die. And then a lot of crime is also related to how many mentally ill have been neglected and with them their situation becomes worse to the point that they become irrationally violent.

There was never a problem about people "having fun" it was that absolute riot that occurred last year that was the problem, and since there's no organizers for the event there's no accountability.

I have no problem with the skaters having an event as long as it is done safely and respectfully, without any vandalism and grafitti like there were last year.
the skaters need to form an official group, raise money, pay the city to close off the street for their rally 1 weekend each year. pay for an ambulance to be on call, pay for police to be security. Charge admission to watch or ride. maybe charge food trucks the right to sell inside the event. and make it a safe crime free legit event. can have other vendors selling skateboards and parts or shirts or something. the vendors all pay like a $100 permit fee to city and give the event organizers a % of sales or a flat fee as profit sharing or something. charge riders $20 for weekend admission, and spectators $10 a day or $15 for weekend wristbands. I'm sure something can be worked out so everyone is happy and they can grow the event.

I’ll always remember living in South America when the police protected the high school students while they graduated, threw home work in the streets playing instruments drinking beers and dancing. I was terrified for them when the police arrived. My local friend said “they’re here to make sure they’re safe while they celebrate”. 😂. Never occurred to me being from the states.

It didn't get destructive until the police tried to shut it down last year. So, this year with the block shut down, the kids just moved, and the police realized that the kids will be orderly if you don't try to stop them from skating. Nothing is being destroyed. There are far bigger problems in that city then a few SK8er. I've been skating since the 80s and I still skate today in my 50s. Since skateboarding started, we and the police have always had issues. The very act of skating is unsafe. You're not going to make skating any safer by trying to stop them. just like these kids. In my time we just moved somewhere else.
It's also annoying cause the talk about that biker that died like he was some biker riding by that got ran over. He participating in the bomb, by riding down with no hands on the handlebar, ran into a skater who was also bombing, and died. The biker is "at fault" for the accident, but they paint it as if the biker was an innocent commuter just trying to pass by, and those violent skates killed him. It's disgusting how they twist the truth.

As crazy as San Francisco is, .you would think on something kind of cool like this actually sounds, they would help these young kids and young adults to do this as an annual event, not make it illegal. After all, selling heroin is legal there. But young people wanting to skate is illegal?

Although I agree you can't just take an entire Street to do what you want they should be allowed to organize this so that it is safe because there is plenty of people there to help anyone if they fall or to help anybody in general and everybody seems to be looking out for other people so if nobody is skating into others and nobody is running into cars skating into traffic or getting hit by cars then this should be allowed to be set up relatively safely here in Utah we have people that like to do the car shows the car racing and the skateboarding so we have designated areas that allow people to do this so that they don't feel the need to do it in the streets on their own or around other neighborhoods they have places to go and raise their cars and places to safely show off their skills

It's classified as a high risk activity and they're doing it on a public street. Unless there's a compelling reason the city is liable for the injury, like negligent behavior by a city employee, or a specific hazard that the city ignored after multiple reports, they're out of luck. No grounds to sue for simply losing control and falling.
Get a fucking permit so the city can do their job and advertise the event several days in advance to the public so everyone is safe
